seriously though, long ago I used to be more into the magickal arts.
But was always careful to respect the power, and never use it with harmful intentions.
No matter how much time it takes to manifest,
the result is always boomerang.
Intention has a way of returning to you.

Wiccan "spells" and folk magic is never to be ??.

It is real.

You must respect all forms of magic.

I have a Wiccan friend who lives in a city a few hours south of me. I asked him if he could help with a "blessing" to bring south Texas out of the horrible drought we had been in. Whatever these people did, in the name of mother earth, worked. I actually had to cut my grass yesterday, have done so only once this summer, cause I had NO grass. It has been raining off and on for a couple of weeks.

Well, I never used magic for ill intent myself, so I guess I can only go by the experiences I've heard. From what I've observed, it does seem to always come back around. Even if not directly from the person who has been hexed, but maybe from an entirely different relationship, maybe miles down the road. Because of this it might be hard to tell if it were even related, if not for being struck by the 'karmic' similiarities in events.

Once I did a spell to attrack Love. It was very elaborate, and consisted of taking time to draw an ancient Magickal emblum containing Latin and symbolism. I placed it in a special box with rose quartz and actually a picture of a man, from which I had meditated on what qualities I'd like.
(this was all for sake of experiment at the time)
Less than two weeks later I met my (now ex) husband and the rest is history.
I don't know if the spell had any effect, but always found it curious. And also wondered if I should have been more specific, or less specific. ??

Also, around the time of the spell, I was on a camping trip with friends, and I wandered off on a nature hike late at night by myself and spent an entire night conversing with the Moon. Crying out heartbreaks, wishes, longings...by the time of sun-rise after purging all of that, I was at a place of peaceful acceptance of "f*ck it. I really don't care, don't need anyone and will be ok on my own."
I wondered later about that night too.
I think it's most often at a time of surrender and entirely letting go that it happens. When you least expect it, as they say.

Anyway, something I've always felt, is that I'm never really been afraid of hexes or bad spells from others, because I think magick is much more powerful and long-lasting coming from a person of heightened awareness and centeredness. If someone is having vengeful, malicious thought, than I don't believe they are at a place of strong personal power.
True Alchemy is of integration in the very center point of elements. It seems that feelings of revenge would be throwing one off-balance.
Hope I'm describing that well...what do you guys think about that?

I agree, a person casting any sort of hex is probably off center and therefore the spell loses power, only those in touch with the loving spirit of god can hope to have any power behind their spells.

Negative spells are alwasy a bad idea anyway, the boomerang effect is immensely powerful.

My question is, if you cast a light/healing spell, and the karma supposedly comes back threefold, can't that be interpreted as being selfish and casting a spell to benefit yourself?

Very well said! I am not afraid of bad juju either, I warn against it cause I have heard of it coming back on the sender....

I do not believe in one person's ability to "hex" another--unless the reciever believes they are being hexed, and that is a whole different story.

I have used folk magic, mainly candles, colors, herbs, crystals and sometimes a tarot card or 3 for many years, but sparingly, and mainly for healing and/or protection. Actually to look around my house and yard one would see "magic" everywhere; herb gardens, particular colors, etc.

I do not think there is anything particularly mystifying about folk magic, use of directed ENERGY with a few meaningful props. But there IS something to it, though. I think it is all about the energy.

I do not think there is anything selfish about it. If I have a cold, I make take cold medicine, go to the doc, or light a green candle and picture health. What is the difference? Should I miss work, feel miserable and spread germs or do something "selfish" and get well.

If my crazy psycho former boyfriend stalks, harasses me and the cops can not do anything about it, what is wrong with lighting a white candle, placing some acorns around it, picturing myself surrounded in white light. Sorry if wanting to be safe is being selfish.

We all have to make a living, unless you are blessed with unending wealth. What is wrong with wearing something green on a job interview, scribing an ancient rune on a doller bill and carrying it with me along with green stones and doing a bit of candle magic after the interview. If I want to do my part in society and maintain employment is that being SELFISH????

The good that is put out there by concious pratcitioners of "magic" has NOTHING to do with being selfish. It is merely a tool, an adjunct that has been used for millenia.
