Depends on who you ask.

Muslims and Jews do not eat pork.

Hindus do not eat beef.

Most Buddhists are vegatarian.

Christianity pretty much is ok with most meat.

Some "primitive" tribes still consume human flesh.

I think what's wrong is the way animals are treated while they're alive and inhumanely slaughtered. By eating meat in the United States you're indirectly advocating this slaughter and inhumane treatment. Not only that but the pollution/land consumption required to raise meat is incredibly destructive to the environment. The reason that gaia's heart (the South American rainforests) is being burned is mostly to make land for cattle.

That being said I love meat, but I try to moderate it as much as possible. In fact, I'm eating a tri tip right now. It's delicious.

It's a really good question Sweet Stars.

Personally, I wont eat anything that hasn't been prepared with Love. In the majority of animal slaughter, there is no love involved, so I would prefer not to eat it. On rare occasions I don't stick to a vegan diet if I am offered farm fresh eggs or goats milk that has been prepared with Love.

I don't think it comes down to right or wrong...sometimes animal products including flesh are necessary in some cases. A lot of animal products are very medicinal. I also believe it is all about inention, Love, and compassion for all living things, from a cow to a carrot, it is still taking a life...it just depends how you do it and why you do it.

You know this is weird.

I had spoken to my boyfriend earlier and he asked me if I would eat a meal made of shrimp if he makes one for me? I told him I couldn't and he asked not even if it is made with love?

I still can't unfortunately. It's what my heart tells me to do.

I do not think it is a moral issue whether to eat animals or not. It's a biological one. We've evolved as omnivores, and evolution does not have a moral agenda.

Consider this for a second. The human brain has benefited the most in evolution from our inclusion of animal protien and fats in our diet. The simple fact that we have the mental capacity to ask whether eating an animal is right or wrong is due to the fact that our biological ancestors have been eating animals for generations.

I think what "moral" vegetarians and vegan get caught up on is the difference between eating animals and how we as a society treat the animals we eat. I would agree readily that how we treat the animals we eat needs serious revision - in most cases, commercial slaughtering and fishing is indicative of a society that has fundamentally lost its spiritual connection with nature.

So if someone obstains from eating animals because they feel these issues need to be addresed, fine. But if they want to tell me I'm wrong for eating animals, then they need f*** off, quite frankly. I have a neurological condition (Asperger's), a metabolism condition (insulin resistence) and a hormone condition (PCOS) that require me to stay on a high protien, low carb diet, and I'm allergic or intolerant to most vegetable protein (soy, corn, tree nuts, gluten, you name it). I need to eat animal protein and fats for me to be healthy, and no one is going to tell me that taking care of my body is morally wrong.

I kinda agree with Gemini Nymph.. ^_^

In my opinion, it's only natural that we eat other animals. It's a part of our nature, just like other animals. You eat other animals to survive, and when you die, your remains feeds the earth so it feeds the plants that feeds the other animals.. it's that way that the nature maintains its cycle of life and death.
What's wrong is how you treat them, or even torture them..

Personally, I love animals ^_^ but I'm also a meat lover lol.. :P

It was good that SunChild brough up the issue on food either prepared with love or without love.

I'd been thinking about similar ideas. I wouldn't like any negative energy sent into the meal I'm about to eat by someone who has anger, hatred etc. Whether it's animal flesh, other products or vegetarian/vegan, the foods could all just be prepared without love. In my view, foods offered at restaurants, other eateries, or wherever you eat out tend to be prepared with little or no love, because the staff are usually overworked and have many other things on their minds bothering them, although that is not even close to the worst and acceptable most of the time (you can't avoid all negative energy, so a little bit of it may be fine). It would probably be best to eat food cooked or made by oneself or a loving, trusted loved one. Even veggie foods could be prepared without love.

Anyway, I had thought about avoiding eating any foods prepared by somebody with lots of negative energy, and after reading this thread, I've become determined not to eat foods cooked, made or baked by a person with no love but only bitterness on their mind.
