There are pros and cons with using them.As long as people are aware of the dangers, I feel it is their choice. IP: Logged |

Spiritual authorities from the oldest indigeonous cultures in the world agree that mushrooms, peyote, ayahuasca, and other natural entheogens are powerful medicines for the soul. Some even say that they are gods who have chosen to reincarnate as plants, for the sake of mankind. Some insist that these plant entities are responsible for many of the most sacred scriptures of the world, for much of our knowledge of art, science, and natural medicine, and even for the birth of civilization itself. There are no reported fatalities that I am aware of. This is not the case with many widely accepted substances, like alcohol, tobacco and coffee. Perhaps the real question is, what are you so afraid of? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYB0VW5x8fI

I'm not afraid. I won't bore you with my personal history, but suffice it to say I'm far from afraid. You will be ever hearing, but never understanding; you will be ever seeing, but never perceiving. This people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes Isaiah "oldest indigeonous cultures"
That's the problem right there. The oldest cultures did not use mind-altering drugs because their spiritual centers were already naturally open. Peyote and the like came into use when these spiritual centers began to close and the desperate desire to hold onto the old sight compelled their use. Even then, these spiritual excursions were strictly controlled and used only under the guidance of an elder and after the initiate had been fully prepared. You can claim neither. Drugs may allow you a brief glimpse into a another state, but can not grant you a higher station. At best it will confuse you and prevent real progress. I trust you are not a candidate for the low road, HSC. You'll need to earn spiritual insight the hard way. I think you know this. The Blessed One's Noble Eightfold Path is trustworthy and true. mens sana in corpore sano IP: Logged |

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” ~ BuddhaI'll have to respectfully disagree with you for now, TINK. love to you, as always, HSC IP: Logged |

I don't disagree that mind altering substances open the mind. I simply believe that people cannot practice the required moderation and reverence while under the grips of addiction. I also believe getting lost in addiction is too common and serious to overlook or downplay. I felt my insight into this subject was very important on this topic. The song immediately came to mind after reading the previous post, and then later I heard it the same evening while sitting near the airport and staring at the lights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiG4M3g0tvk Metallica ... I'm not sure I believe in progress, or earnings, TINK.Why am I drawn to psychedelics? Because they make me feel like God, and they make me feel like there is a God, and like I am connected to Her. I'm just not about to start meditating and living a monkish existence. Thats not who I am. Maybe I'm not ready for that, or maybe its more complicated than that. But I'm going at my own pace, on my own path. I dont automatically take a cautious, conservative view of these things. I like the pagan gods, like Bacchus and Shiva, who dance and drink and smoke and trip, and contain elements of mischief. I am a poet and a wanderer, a reveler and a revealer. I like to blaze, I like to ****, and I'm always down to take a trip. There are worse sins, and worse things to be. Live and let trip. "My grind aint your grind, dawg." ~ Mos Def IP: Logged |

Now that's more like it! I'm not sure I believe in progress, or earnings, TINK. Of course you don't. That's clear. You're afraid. Can't say as I blame you. Buddhism not your cup of tea after all, eh? Shiva is my most favored Hindu personification and a monkish existence is not my path either. And, yes, there's always something worse. Always. IP: Logged |

TINK, "Of course you don't. That's clear. You're afraid. Can't say as I blame you."
You talk about fear. You sound so self-righteous. But your assumption is off. I'm not afraid; I'm lazy and depressed. There's a difference. But all your objections to entheogens sound fear-based to me. "And, yes, there's always something worse. Always." MWWUUAAHHHHHH!!!! You sound like you want to scare me into Buddhism. Good luck with that. IP: Logged |

That is incorrect. HSC, I've absolutely no idea which Path you will eventually choose and most certainly no idea which Path resonates best with your Spirit. IP: Logged |

I agree. You are lazy and depressed. (and afraid too) That you, with your intelligence, honestly believe peyote will help you with these issues just amuses the hell out of me. IP: Logged |
