The Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary is located on the western region of Africa, in Sierra Leone. They rescue & rehabilitate orphaned & abandoned chimps. I learned of this organization from a show on Animal Planet a couple months ago. The couple who started the sanctuary rescued one chimp and their sanctuary took off and grew from there.

Tacugama is definitely a cool place to visit. It is right at thetop ofa hill surrounded by green beautiful trees and silence. I went there the last time i was in SL and did not regret it.

A similar Eco-Tourism spot is Tiwai Island which is also in Sierra Leone. If you want more information check out these additional link

Nephthys: The sanctuary is quite cool...but if you ever go there be sure to dodge the stones being bombarded by the alpha male (i believe his name is Bruno)
Seriously though it's a nice and peaceful place...there was an Albino chimp there but sadly he passed away.

I saw the story on the albino chimp! It was such a sweet story and then so sad at the end to learn he passed away! It was on Animal Planet!
