--------------------------------------------
My beautiful baby girl, Carrera (7mo) just had exploratory surgery on her elbow. They found a fractured medial process. Which is basically in the joint of the elbom. They removed the overgrowth/fracture and also cut through her ulna in hopes that the bones will settle into the right place and be congruative to one another. Because of needing to "settle" the bones, they are unable to place her in a cast. Shes lame on her right leg due to the procedure and must be confined for 6-8weeks. Since this is a form of elbow dysplasia, the arthritis has already settled in. I've read alot about Tahitian Noni also being very good for pets. And that it has some healing properties that assist in arthritis. I will need to look further into that though. I take the stuff myself and love it.

The hardest part with all this is shes still a lil puppy and trying to keep a puppy down is very ruff!! The first night home with her was very hard for both her and i. I assisted her in every move she made and she realized i was there to help her. I tried with all my might to envision the light surrounding her. I visualized it going from the top of my head, down thru my hand, flowing freely into her head and spiraling down to her elbow. When i reached her elbow, she twitched and let a lil wimper out. (i never physicaly touched her elbow) I just laid with her and did the visual about 3 times over. She ended up falling asleep in my arms as i did with her. That was all friday night. Saturday she seemed in much better shape. She was bright eyed, happy and energetic. Although i cant allow her to release that energy just yet. Today her personality has picked up and she is trying to use her paw/leg. Although, again i cant allow that just yet either. The bones must have time to heal themselves. She is stretching her arm and retracting it all on her own (which was somehting i was supposed to work on with her, re-habilitation exercises) but with her doing them on her own no need for me to step in and disrupt the flow. Shes such a brave strong girl - not a quiter.

Please everyone, send my baby girl lots of love and light. She needs all she can get at this point for a quick and healthy recovery. She goes in for a 2 week check up and i'd love to show the doc that we are progessing at a fantastic rate!

Aww Thanks Guys!! You all are the greatest. If she cold speak i know she'd be thanking you from the bottom of her huge heart. She is in much better spirits this morning. The alarm went off and she was back to her usual self of happily licking mama's face and greeting me with kisses. After coming to work, shes got this thing where shes gotta greet everyone in the mornings. She did exactly that, i was a lil worried about her being as she was on concrete, but she just cruised right along on her three legs. But she was only allowed to let out a lil burst of energy, Bones Must Heal!!

Thanks again for everything!!! She's very grateful!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Carrera~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your puppy is gorgeous! That is so sad! What does the Vet recommend for the energy of a puppy who isn't supposed to be active? You'd think they would suggest something
Thank you 26T & Nephthys!! Boy, i tell ya, you al lare the greatest!!
Nephthys - kinda funny really. You know what they told me as far as not getting enough energy released, that i must reduce the amount of food i give her, so she doesnt get fat while sitting there for 6-8weeks. LoL. Shes a puppy, puppies burn their food up as fast as children. I personally, dont think theres a need for it at this point in her life. Maybe if she were an older dog yeah ... but 1/2 yr old. Nahhh! Well, what i have been doing the last few days is playing with her using her toys. Not fetch or anyhting like that. but i'll let her lay there and reach over and give her toy a lil tug and get her to play that way without going into a full blown tug-o-war. Which also is hard, cause she really loves tug-o-war. But really, thats about all i have as far as options for her to release the energy. If her wounds were healed and she knew how to swim (she did experience nice cold Alaska waters ... right after the ice thawed, only by accident though, she walked right off the end of a dock, not knowing it was the end of the dock, WHOOOOSH! down she went, her lil head popped back up out and i swore her eyes were gonna pop outta her head - she was so freaked out - of course mama rescued her and she decided she no longer had an interest in that there dock!!) But if i knew for sure she knew how to swim and wouldnt injure herself we could take her swimming before it starts to cool off here. The not knowing part is the part that makes me uneasy even attempting to put her in water. I wouldnt want the bone to pop outta whack or anything.
Anywho - shes a sleepin' away right now!! I keep telling her she'll heal the best while sleeping - guess she's listening to me after all!
Thanks again for all your support, love and light!!
That's ridiculous that they said to feed her less food; puppies need so much NUTRITION so that's another reason they are fed more often and more quantity than adult dogs!!! Can't she walk around your house/yard a little bit? If it was me I would be going stir crazy.
I hope she heals fast!
Nephthys - That was my thought exactly - puppies need more NUTRITION!! She does walk aroudn the house and yard. Its just that she really shouldnt be at this point being as its just really beginning to be healed. She does run on it, although i dont let her run that much, mainly down the hall, but she'ss liffting that leg, instead of walking on it which is good. Today she seems to be using it more, actually laying her toes on the ground to walk on it, not just using the tip of her toes to hop off of. There is absolutely NO swelling - that i see. Tomorrow will be exactly one week since surgery and exactly one week from today she will have he 2week evaluation. At which time, i'm really hopeing they take x-rays to see how shes progressing - as far as the bone healing. It is very hard to keep this puppy down, let alone any puppy.
Solane Star & Randall - Thank You so very much for the support. She really needs all she can get for a fast & healthy, painfree recovery!!
You all are the best - Paws Down!!
Awww thanks guys for the concern! She is advancing wondefully. My lil Angel is progressnig right along if not on schedule a lil faster. I called the vet with a possible concern about her actually walking on her leg with paw flat on the floor (where before she was quickly hopping off the tip of the paw) I didnt know if it was too soon or not, being as she was to be confined for 6-8weeks. But the doc assured me that was a good thing and we want to see that at an early stage, since it means she is healing faster than anticiapated. Woo-hoo! I began giving her Tahitian Noni the other day - im so surprised she loves it. its kinda tart and bitter but a lil sweet from the grape and blueberry juice they add to it. Since giving her that, shes turned up her nose to the rymidal (sp?) Where before she would gobble it up. I know dogs at intuitive, but are they so intuitive to know when they dont need their pain meds anymore??? (i also started giving Noni to my male cat who has gingervitus, its only been one day so well see how much that clears up by weeks end - im excited to see results) well, Carrera-bera has a doctor appt this Friday (i had to move it forward cause it overlapped with my doc appt) So well see what the doc has to say then. I'm excited to see if shes advance further than he woulda thought. Shes a strong willed lil cappie girl!!
I'll update at the end of the week after we visit the Doctor.
Thanks for your Love, light, support, concern, prayers and best wishes!!!
Angel ~
I don't want to alarm you or anything, but Rimadyl is not good for dogs. It is bad for the liver. If you can, discontinue giving it to her. Our Vets won't even prescribe it anymore. I just did a search online and there's some info on it here if you're interested;
WoW - I had no idea! Thanks Nephthys for that link, very informative!!
Well after reading that, and seeing how she's all of the sudden changed her mind about taking it - i will discontinue it. In which the Noni should substitute that. Noni has wonderful healing properties and can be used for pain as well. I've read alot and been told alot first had about the amazing effects Noni has not only on us humans but pets as well. So Noni it is ...
Thanks 26!! How are you doing? I hear ya got that new job you were seeking!! Congrats!!
I can't believe I missed this thread, but here is lots of healing light your poochie's way. I am glad to hear she is doing so well now. Noni juice is miraculous, indeed! =) And those young pups bounce back from almost anything with such ease!
She is gorgeous.
thanks Alchemist ... it really means alot.
She is doing great. We tried leaving her home alone for a couple hours while going ot the fair (which we havent done at all yet - or kenneled)She was not a happy camper. SHe musta felt like we werent coming back. She shredded a rubber mat we have at our back door - but that was it. So i really dont know that she was ticked at us, or maybe she was thinking she was playing with her toys - cause shes gota few rubber toys. She she ended up making her elbow a lil sore for that night. But today its Great. Shes got a slight limp to her still, but nothing like it was previously. Shes got her 8week check up coming up here at the end of September. During this visit they will take more x-rays to ensure that the bone has completly healed back together. hopefully she will be allowed to run and play again shortly thereafter. I know it will have to be introduced slowly since she has lost quite a bit of muscle mass in that arm/leg. So we'll see.
As far as Noni juice, she took it on her own for the first few days - but now she wont drink it. I've only cat had cats my whole life, shes my first puppy, so how do you get liquids down a dogs throat??? with my cats i can put it in a syringe of sorts and squirt it in their mouths and they usually swallow. With the dog its just running outta her mouth! lol... im wasting my Noni!! $$$ stuff!
I'm getting ready to head to Wisonsin next week to assist my grandmother in moving. I am so sad to be leaving carrera, but i knw my Aries will take the best care of her. Its just gonna be hard. I think on her as well since she is used to being with me all day in the office. Have to make sure i bring her some presents upon my return - she loves stuffed animals.
