Hey ya'll -

We've been poking around for a family dog, and this one may have officially won our heart:

Here's her story:
Symi is a 2 year old female in the Knoxville TN area. She was abandoned at a vets office after being hit by a car. She suffered facial injuries and a broken leg. She was taken in by a vet worker who now is moving. Unfortunately she has to give Symi up because of pet restrictions at her new location. From what we are told about Symi, she gets along with other animals, big and small, including cats. She has a very sweet disposition. Symi has recovered completely from her injuries but is left with some minor facial disfiguration.

We'd have to drive up to Tennessee to get her, but that's doable from here

Awwww Symi is adorable. You can tell by her dispostion that she is a calm, happy and majestic young gal. That first picture of her is just beautiful. Looks like quite the charmer!! Many peopole say, the abandoned ones turn out to be the best pets.

That is so sad how peope can be like that. Dumping an animals is if its non-existant. My hunnys friends wife - told me - after having my pups surgery - that if it was her, she'da had the dog put to sleep and bought a new one (the pup is 7mo old)- the mentality of people!! Thats just wrong. I cried right then and there and told her - If you own a dog, its your responsibility to take care of that dog as if it was your child. They cant take care of themselves. People like you sholdnt be allowed to have animals, let alone kids! I think i ****** her off pretty bad, but i just couldnt refrain from making a comment.

Contgrats on your new Addition!! (should she win ya over)

Oh, she's already won us over
It's just a matter of working out logistics now (we only have one working car @ the moment, Jase has to get to work, and the drive from here to there's a long one).

Blue - Aw, c'mon! She's licking a kitten! How can she be scary???

(Seriously, though - I understand general phobias.)

Neohthys - i was crushed. As this was the first day home with her, she was in so mcuh pain, i cried for her. And then to have that woman tell me that - OMG! I lost it. I was so made and furious that someone can make such a comment, let alone at a time like that. Sad part is, shes got a dog, a bunny and a gini pig(lol - i have no idea how to spell that) and two kids. Although shes kinda out there to begin with, its still no excuse to treat any form of life as she said she would. Unfotunatly i cant stop talking with her, as its my hun's friends wife. But when it comes to this matter, i wont stand down. And i think she found that out, when i flipped on her.

at Blue Moon ... tasting the kitty! LoL ... my puppy cleans my male cat, just like a cat. LoL

Proxie,

She sounds like a keeper. I have been called "Queen of the Island of the Misfits" (from Rudolph the red nosed reindeer) not because of the broken toys, but because I seem to adopt the broken animals.

Both of my cats were hit my cars that came into the ER vet hospital and as a Tech they just one me over (Vet tech is another word for SUCKER) LOL.... They had both been abandoned and my male had a fractured jaw / broken K-9. Now he does a mean Elvis impression.

I love them dearly and they each have a special story good luck with your new family member.

The lady adopting her out never returned a few of my phone calls, so I guess she found someone else or had second thoughts...
But today we went down to a local no-kill shelter and we now have a not-so-little addition to the fam:

Her name is Zoe.
She's a German Shepherd-Border Collie mix and weighs in at a something over 70 lbs, so far with more of the temperament of a GSD
Her frame is more like that of a Shep with most of the coloration of a Collie (except for a little brown here and there and little eyebrow dots). Her face shows the curiosity and playfulness of the latter with the stoutness and nose of the former (and the hair of both).
She's been at the shelter for about 8 months now and before that was at a nearby kill shelter; she's only a year and a half old, so she's probably spent most of her life in some sort of shelter. She's a mellow, beautiful dog (that picture doesn't do her justice), but stayed unadopted for quite some time because she's shy. People'd take her out to look at her but choose another because she didn't bound up and lick them - it takes her time to warm up to people, though she seems to be getting used to us nicely.
She put up with a much-needed bath, loved a nearly two-hour brush out, has started to come when called, follows me around (and sits near my feet while I'm on the computer), and has wagged her tail as Jase's approached.
Zoe's tried to lick Meg, but I think that she's still a little overwhelmed by the size of her new "goggie".
She and Harry (our cat ) seem to be going on an uneasy truce...him and all his 10 lbs have been bullying her around, but she stood up for herself when he started poking around her food (didn't quite growl at him but made her presence known). Oh! That's another thing!: No food aggression at all with people; I was sort of surprised by that. She just backs away if we get anywhere near her food dish. We're going to get Meg into the act of feeding her (perhaps just by having her stir around her food) so she doesn't assume that Meg's subordinate just because she's smaller.

So far she's housetrained...but we haven't gotten her to "go" outside yet, either - we're hoping it's just b/c she was dehydrated and can't make business because she doesn't feel like this is home yet. I'll let you know how that turns out.
If she goes in the house we'll just invest in a crate and go from there.

Well, that's about it - I'll try to get some more pics soon.
We're loving our new dog's first day

- Corri

Oh, and a little calculating backwards shows that she's probably an early Pisces Pooch (maybe a late Aqua) - either way, a nice fit w/ our fam

Aw She seems sweet.

Getting Meg in on the feeding sounds like a great idea to me! Good thinkin'.

I don't understand... If she's house-trained, but doesn't go outside... Where does she go?

Aw The poor baby was abused? B@stards! People that prey on those that are weaker really tick me off!

I'm glad you got her, Prox... y'all can love all that ugly abuse away.

Thanks for pointing me over here. I a happy ending.

Quick (b/c we're getting some squalls w/ tornados from Katrine), re: "Going": That's the thing - she hasn't been going *anywhere* yet. She's just peed outside once

Hi proxi ~

Congrats. on the new dog!!! I saw the Border Collie in her right away!!! She is gorgeous! I went to the link, and I couldn't view those tiny pics larger, but I still got a good idea of what she looks like!!!
She is probably just stressed, and a little unsure of her new surroundings and that is why she hasn't gone potty yet. I would just take her potty outside (where you want her to go) after each meal, and before bedtime, saying "go potty" and pretty soon she will learn where to go.
For example, my dog, Jasmine, goes on the rocks/pebbles on the side yard. When she was little, I would bring her there after each meal, and every hour or two, and say "go potty". Soon, she learned what that meant, and now always goes right after breakfast. At 9 p.m we take her potty and after she goes, she gets a little cookie after. It's so cute, she runs to the workbench in the garage right where the dog cookies are right after she pees!!!

Hey ya'll

There's an update of Zoe's, er, problem in the thread on doggies not eating.

For here, more pics of Zoe!
(Ignore the Messy House ):

She looks slightly like a demon dog here b/c of the flash...I couldn't get rid of her "white eye" without making it look even worse.
