It is scary. When i took our lil Berra in for a check up on her elbow - the vet tech on staff had no idea about this. Apperantly "alaskans" werent informed about this outbreak. I heard if from my aunt in WI while traveling on vacation, who had heard about it almost a week prior to telling me. Apperantly it all really started to spread and take off across country at the beginning of September. Although in reading different reports and such - they believe it to have been around since at least 1999. Maybe cause the symptoms arent that major and sometimes dogs have NO symptoms, it went unrecognised. Although the fever of 106 is a dead give away that something aint right.

So if you take your pets anywhere where there's other animals question the staff as to whether they have heard about it or are aware of any known cases in or around the area.

Gotta protect our kids!!

Hi angel of hope,

This might make you feel a bit better ~
http://vettechs.blogspot.com/2005/09/canine-flu.html

I haven't yet read the long article that was added into the post I linked above, hopefully later I'll get the chance.

*edit ~ I forgot to say thank you for posting the link. It is a bit scary, and I'm being careful with my own dogs.
