Not in a motor home ~ my family did it years ago, from California to Ohio, with one cat, one dog, and one budgie in a, oh what was that car? I forget right now. We had one of those U-haul things attached to the car, and somehow made it through all kinds of bad weather, when stronger vehicles were sliding off the road. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Well, they are doin' it ... and have asked my BF and I to join them on the ride down. So 4 people, 2 dogs and 6 cats are going to be hittin the road by the end of this week. We were going to bring our lil girl with us, but decided against that. Instead my sister will be taking care of my baby. While her kids will be takin care of my kitties for the lil amount of time we are gone. I've never done the Alaska Hwy (alcan) drive before so i'm pretty excited about doing this, especially with my some of my favorite people. Mom had been given some good advice from thier vet's office and that is to use this new product of a pheromone (sp?) spray thru out the motorhome to calm the kitties down and make it feel like home. (I never knew they had this product for animals)They've already sprayed some in there and brought the ultra sensitive kitty in there to check it out ... musta felt like home, cause he was running about all night long, chirpin and everything. He was a happy camper in the camper. So i think its all gonna work out just fine. We'll update upon return. Wish us all luck!! ang- IP: Logged |

AAAAAANNNNNNND, they're off!! PixieDust(Ma) and PopsMa and Pops, stopped by our place of business/home yesterday around 4pm (our time)to say goodbye! They finally closed on the house yesterday at 2:30pm. They were in such a rush to get out, that they left their coats and check book at the old house. The new owners waited for them to show up at the closing meeting, and since the new owners had already closed, they rushed back to ma and pops old house (their new one) and picked up their coats and check book for them. I thought that was so so so very nice of the people. They all cried at the end. Tears of joy, tears of sadness and tears beginning a new life. By the time Ma and Pops got out here to say goodbye it was already getting dark and both of them arent that great at driving at night, a lil night vision factor in there. So we asked them to stay until the morning and head out when its light out. But they have been waiting for this day for so long, their closing kept getting pushed back for various diffrent reasons. So at this point in time they were just ready to get he heck outta dodge. The animals (6cats and 2dogs) seemed to be doing great for the first hour of the trip, to swing by our place. Actually i'm gonna say at that point they were doing great. No one was crying, no one looked terrified. Well, except one very skiddish female named Ginger. She had managed to climb behind the sofa. So upon their stop out here, Ma asked me to help her retrieve Gin-Gin and stuff the cracks with pillows, so she couldnt go into hiding. Ma had set up the motor home so well, it actually felt like their home. Cat houses in there, rugs all over, so the scent of their home had been transfered to their motorhome. So after some talk about weather, their travel plans, us arriving at xmas and their approx time arrival in WA - it was time to say goodbye. Tears flowed all around. We stood and watched them pull outta our driveway from the office. Then quickly ran into our house and stood at the front door to watch them turn on to the highway and give one last wave goodbye. I was so sad to see them go, ballng as i'm waving goodbye. But on the other hand, so happy that they are doing this. They've wanted to leave AK for sometime now. We will be visiting them in December, zactly ONE month from today - its gonna be a long month for me. So wish them luck and keep them in your prayers. A prayer for a safe and hassle free journey thru AK, Canada and into WA. The weather quickly turned into ice fog and snow thru out the night and into this morning. In fact its coming down pretty good here. I hope everything goes well for them. Love and White Light for Ma and Pops!! IP: Logged | |
