Thought I'd start a horse thread, to continue off from the nickname thread since it's a different subject. If I ever get a horse, I would like to name him/her either; Star or Hope My dog's official name is "Star Jasmine" but I just call her "Jasmine". I named her after the beautiful Star Jasmine plants which bloom on a brick wall next to our driveway. I envision a blonde/tan horse with a white star on his/her forehead. Hope was the name of my Cocker Spaniel, so naming a horse that is significant not only for her, but because I've always hoped for one. I don't know why, I just love that name. I always wanted a blonde horse, but I will take what ever I get and love him/her. (if I ever get one) This summer I bought a horse encyclopedia type book. I don't currently ride, but when I was little took lessons. I was very intimidated because on my first day, the lady said, "ok, go get your horse." Huuuuhhh? I knew nothing about horses, let alone go "get one" by myself. Luckily there was another young girl there to help me. I didn't learn much from them and always felt intimidated and uninformed about how to saddle/prepare the horse, etc.

Silvermoon, I just saw your reply and since this is the horse thread, I figured I'd reply here.Max is actually a part of my name. I envision Max (the horse) to be a strong, tall one. I'm not that particular about the color. Probably dark brown. Hmm... I don't know if I'm describing Max or my totem here? I currently don't ride, but I do plan to take riding lessons when it's warmer. I used to ride when I was a kid, but it wasn't my own horse. I do love horses. Everytime I talk about them, I get this feeling, um... nostalgic feelings, somehow... I don't know, I just love them. Maybe that's also why I love unicorns so much. Hehe... I guess I'm just rambling here. I'm so happy to see people who also love horses PS: Thanks for liking my nickname! ------------------ 3rd Decan Scorpio Sun, 1st Decan Aries Moon, 1st/2nd Decan Aquarius Rising IP: Logged |

Neph I was thinking I should start another thread on this subject... Thank you I am so sorry and more than a bit miffed, to hear of people being scared or turned off of going further with horses by insensitive or indifferent instructors. A good trainer should be patient and work on slowly helping you to build your confidence and competence. I believe horse people are born that way, but it usually takes skill and knowledge to get full enjoyment out of riding and handling horses.Well worth the effort,in my book. So, if a trainer isn't encouraging and positive, keep looking- there are some very good ones out there but, like a comfortable saddle, it may take some searching to find the right fit for you. I hope the both of you will continue to seek that special horse. Riding and handling horses is a journey, and I don't mean just a trot around the ring or jaunt out on the trail. It is, first and foremost,a partnership and,as in all relationships, there is no perfect match, but the desire to dance well with each other goes a long way. There are many ups and downs on this trail, but the love and pursuit of your dream will eventually get you there. Would love to hear from all the horse "mad" people out there ! Nnneighhh...! silvermoon IP: Logged |

Silvermoon, well, that was many, many moons ago when I was little. I'd pretty much have to start over now. That teacher was old and strict. Hmmm not exactly a Palomino Tobiano, because those have 2 colors. I meant the body all one color (blonde or tan) and then a white star on the forehead. IP: Logged |

Hey, thought I'd jump in here. I have been around horses most of my life. I had four, Dutches, Widow, Promise and Missy.I worked at a polo club. Taught at riding camp Drove horse and carriage in Phila. Was offered a job of racing trotters and pacers. (I freaked out when I actually got to try it, those suckers move FAST and the carts are light.) I didn't take that job! Worked as a groom, hot walker and exercise girl at Phila. race track. And I'm pretty sure you won't find an all tan/blond horse, pony maybe from Chinqitigue (sp!) Island. I love em too! The most amazing thing I've ever done was sleep with my horse Dutches! I still love the smell of horse poop!

Hi! I loved every moment, except the time a race horse bit me in the breast! Had to go to the Doc for that one! Did you know that race tracks keep a lot of goats and cats around as company for the horses? They keep them calm, especially before a race.IP: Logged |

WOA, This has turned ou to be a great thread... The pictures are wonderful.Am seriously thinking about posting some of my own... Horses are a huge part of my life. I am an Equestrian Trainer by trade and have been blessed to have had Equines in my life all the way,so far.I grew up in a horse friendly community in New England and horse madness is in my blood. I currently live in coastal California where I have my own facilities where I teach riding and natural horse management. I do combined training- Dressage and Jumping.I can throw a western saddle on and neck rein in a pinch, too . I ride as often as possible on the beach in front of my place. Really appreciate hearing from all the horselovers here. It is a grand passion for me that I love to share ! Happy Trails, silvermoon IP: Logged |

BEAUTIFUL pic geministone! Beautiful! Cool for you silvermooon! I'm in AZ., maybe a trip to CA. hummmmm? Just to see you in action! I've never had lessons, but I love english jumping! I have never competed though. I used to have photos of me and Dutches jumping, bareback! The ex shredded those up. I have a pic with our cat resting on Widow's back! She was a Quarter horse. Dutches was an Arabian, but abused by a previous owner. I bought her for seven hundred dollars and they threw in Widow for free. Now you know that's a good deal for an Arabian! She was kinda tempremental, but I worked with her and she cooled down after about a half a year. Very stubbern! My goal these days is to gain enough money to own horses and just watch them be horses. Wouldn't it be cool if we could all post pics of our horses and make a calander? A L.L. horse calander! Did I mention I'm also a graphic designer?IP: Logged |

Horses are such gentle, freedom-filled creatures. ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

Its funny how a certain topic will bring people together. My niece who is now in 11th grade has been riding horses since she was a little girl. In the last two years she has decided to compete, and it turns out is doing well. She has a horse now but she leases them so they don't stay with her forever. She and her family ( and my husb. family) recently went to germany and bought a female horse for investment. She is being trained by Janie's trainer and they tell me she is beautiful and is doing quite well. My niece wants to go to college where they have an equestrian program, she seems to love this. She has educated me to a lot of it and i find it all so interesting. I always tell her that I see this as being a part of her life, not just a hobby as some in the family say.IP: Logged |

If I were to be doing anything other than this, it would probably be that! Have you read "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kinsolver ? Wonderful book - definately one of my favs... thirteen, Yes, for horsepeople it is an ongoing, lifelong connection... Sure sounds like your neice is in it for "the long ride". Okay, all you horsekeepers and horselovers...It rained, my horses were out in the pasture and have each unceremoniously rolled in the mud. I could bathe them, but would I want to turn them out again, just to have them do it all over again ? I don't want them in their stalls when there is so much good grazing (lots of green grass!).On the otherhand, it is distressing, from an aesthetic standpoint, to see them covered in mud. Especially my grey arabian who has become a horse of a different color. So... I pose the hypothetical question: Is it better to have bored, clean horses or muddy, happy horses? silvermoon IP: Logged |

Here's the horses I fantasize about owning someday- The Fresian.. my current favorite.. So elegant! The Indian in me wants a beautiful painted horse.. The Appaloosa..
I would also love to have a Gypsy Horse- Honestly though.. I'd just love to have a horse, period. Any horse..... It's one the dreams I've had since childhood and I don't think I will be satisfied with my life until I have a chance to care for one of these magnificent creatures...*sigh*.. Sometimes it seems so far away from becoming a reality....
