Thanks for helping to spread the word! I already signed about 3 of these petitions through the Humane Society of the U.S., and the Care2.com site. This is one of the sadest, sickest things on earth. People need to be aware and not say they are too sensitive to hear about it. IP: Logged |

Nephthys, If there is anybody who should have sensitivity,it's the seal killers themselves. IP: Logged |

Peace,Sorry, I never saw your reply here on 4/4! The last time I watched Dog, 1 or 2 weeks ago, they actually came to SFO to track down a guy they had been chasing for 3 years. They caught him just in time, 5 hrs. before the bond was due. I like that type of reality show, just filming real, opposed to the "set-up" ones like Survivor or Big Brother isn't really reality. Just signed a couple of petitions You could also have a look at Heather Mills-McCartney's website at this article on the seal hunt and how to protest against it. http://heathermillsmccartney.com/media_sealpr3.php *To those of delicate dispositions, please be warned that there is a link to another site at the bottom of the page (the Boycott Cananda site) which has some very distressing photos. Just didn't want anyone to wander across unprepared. The thing that get's me is the fact that Paul McCartney has even offered the fishermen compensation for any loss of earnings and yet they still continue with this disgusting practice! Just because something has been done for 500 years doesn't make it right! And please would anyone who cares for our animal friends go to my Dog and Cat fur thread to learn how they can prevent this equally revolting practice from continuing. There is another petition to sign. Thanks very much IP: Logged |

WOW! That's so wonderful that he even offered to pay them compensation! Isn't it amazing! It is so sad and sick how animals are treated in this crazy world! IP: Logged |

I've signed up, I hope this petition helps against some senseless cruelty. Since my beloved dog died last year I became vegetarian, also upon reading 'Discover Atlantis'. I hope the new consciousness will raise awareness in treating animals as equals IP: Logged |

Actually, I refuse to sign until some PETA members clearly see both sides of the story.Even the WWF doesn't get involved in banning Seal hunting for one reason; Artifical culling. In order to keep the fish stocks at a balanced populus, certain amount of seals have to be naturally culled or the already suffering Canadian fish industry will recieve another hard blow. The number of seals being culled is always carefully monitored. No one is allowed to go over the cull quota or there are serious concequences under the Nature preservation act. IP: Logged |

it isn't just PETA that's pushing that. There are several organizations that are asking for the end of this. I also resent that people who are "pro" the cruel slaughter of these seals seem to think that those of us who oppose it are ignorant of the other side's stance. The bigger problem I have is the assumption that this artificial culling needs to be done so regularly, so irresponsibly and so callously by profit-motivated people. There really isn't solid proof that it's helping the fishing industry, as if the fishing industry is any good reason to go out and kill seals in the first place - that's a red herring argument. You can talk all you want about high minded regulations as well. But aside from indigenous people who are respectful towards the land and its animals, the fishermen who are actually going out on the ice and doing the culling - no, they're aren't that closely monitored. They get to kill as many seals they want, as cruelly as they want (they don't even have to kill the seal before they "harvest" it - post-mortem stats suggest nearly 50% of these seals are "harvested" while bludgeoned and debilitated yet still very much alive). It's just as long as they don't BRING BACK more than the quota, the Canadian government keeps their hands off. That's irresponsible and irreprehensible. And I don't know if you've ever actually met any of these seal killers, but they're not the sort of people I want around in civilized society. They look at the world like it's there to exploit for their own ends, and that if there's consequences, someone else can pay for it. I don't think that "way of life" (as they call it) is justifible in this day and age. Basically to support this is to support a culture of exploitation, vanity and cruelty. It's not just about seals and cod and PETA. It's part of a bigger picture, about what kind of society we should be. If it all comes down to protecting our industries and profits over our social awareness and collective conscience, then I think we need to seriously talk a step back and reflect on what that really says about us. Anyhow, I have been boycotting Canadian seafood myself. That's all I can do right now from where I am, but whatever else I can do to encourage others to make this world a better place for both humans and animals I will do. IP: Logged |
