This happened to a couple from Westland, Michigan ( Who incidently are fine and were miraculously unhurt)

Totally bizzare. Not something you expect while driving down the road.

But this was no normal cow either.

What was different about this cow is:

A. It had been genetically altered to produce chocolate milk

B. It was a professional bull rider-registered cow bred for rodeos.

C. It was a special breed of cow trained to protect auto-dealer lots in the northwest.

D. It was trained to tap out its age with its cloven hoof.

My conclusion is that the cow committed suicide and did it in a way to protest being messed with so much by humans and also, to protest having to protect auto-dealer lots it took it out on a car.

Cow falls onto Westland couple's minivan in Washington
November 6, 2007

When a 600-pound cow tumbles 200 feet off a cliff on to your minivan, you aren’t really thinking about auto insurance.

At least Charles Everson Jr. wasn’t.

I’m just glad to be alive,” the 49-year-old chauffeur from Westland said from his hotel Tuesday in Manson, Wash. “It’s raining cows out here, man.”

Everson and his wife Linda, 39, were in Washington celebrating their first wedding anniversary when the 1-year-old rodeo stock cow landed on the hood of their 2006 Buick Terraza. The couple had just left a nearby church service and were traveling along Highway 150, near Rocky Point on Lake Chelan, about a mile east of Manson.

“I saw something hit and heard a ‘Wham!’ It happened so fast,” Charles Everson said. “I actually thought it was a deer.”

Miraculously, Everson kept driving.

“All of the sudden I’m looking at it, and I tell my wife, ‘It’s a cow,’.” he said. “I kept saying: ‘I don’t believe it.’ I must have said that 20 or 30 times.”

Everson pulled over about a mile down the road. The minivan had extensive damage to the hood.

“I wasn’t really thinking clearly and then I realized that I better pull over,” he said.

Rescue crews took the couple to Lake Chelan Community Hospital for precautionary reasons. On Tuesday, Everson said he and his wife were fine.

“It was just a matter of inches,” he said.

Sgt. Mike Harris of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the animal, which had to be euthanized after the crash, was a Professional Bull Rider-registered cow.

“It was bred for rodeo,” Harris said. “It was not your normal cow in a field.”

A breeder had previously reported the cow missing, Harris said.

Everson said the breeder was extremely apologetic.

“He called me and said it had escaped from his ranch about a month ago,” Charles Everson said. “He really felt bad.”

Now, the couple is trying to figure out a way to get back to the Detroit-area. They had driven the Buick out west last week.

“We came out here for relaxation, a quiet time,” Everson said while laughing. “You could say this doesn’t happen every day.”

Here's a picture of the mini-van hit.

Trully miraculous because if the couple had been traveling any other speed they probably would be either dead or hurt severly in this freak ocurrance.

*edited* On second thought if they had been traveling at a faster speed the cow might have missed them all together.

Can they genetically alter them to produce strawberry milkshakes or is it just chocolate milk? Cuz, then you would have Steak AND Shake...

To the innocent hearts and animal advocates out there, yes, I know , that is why I consider blowing up the world every March or so... but I get bettah.

LMAO Melody. Maybe they will be putting up those signs along this road now.

I hear you, LTT. Humans should leave animals alone to do what they were created to do. Experimenting and genetically altering an animal as they did to this cow is very wrong. Have we become so lazy that we now want the cow to make our chocolate milk. That's sick if you ask me. Which you didn't but I will say it anyway.

Probably someone stole the cow and hopefully it was an accident and the cow was not pushed off the cliff. In an article in today's paper here in the Detroit area it stated they are investigating to try and determine how this accident happened and one of the questions they are asking is did the cow fall by accident or was it pushed off the cliff.

Absolutely.

And if anyone thinks I'm a daft, sentimental animal advocate, how would you like it if someone started messing around with YOU?

What gives human beings the "right" to exploit beautiful animals, who each have their own language and special way of communicating?

Life is sacred.

Human beings are the profaners of life.

We rant and rave about our own kind's suffering, but who will speak up for these animals?

Sure, there are people who are starving, sick, abused and falsely imprisoned.

But if you go on google search for images, you won't find anything like the kind of suffering that you will see of animals.

To some people, these things have no effect on them.

Am I from a different planet?

I cannot understand why people cannot understand or see their pain.

It's Time for people to wake up.

People have been sleeping for too long.

If Linda was here, I just know she'd agree with me.

*Edited* to add:
I meant she would agree with me about the actual plight of the animals. Nothing more.

Are you sure that isnt multiple choice?

The article only mentions "B" (rodeo cow).

I think the other answers are probably jokes.

So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.

I am the voice of the voiceless:
Through me, the dumb shall speak;
Till the deaf world's ear be made to hear
The cry of the wordless weak.

From street, from cage and from kennel,
From jungle and stall, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin
Of the mighty against the frail.

For love is the true religion,
And love is the law sublime;
And all that is wrought, where love is not
Will die at the touch of time.

Oh, shame on the mothers of mortals
Who have not stopped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.

The same Power formed the sparrow
That fashioned man - the King;
The God of the whole gave a living soul
To furred and to feathered thing.

And I am my brother's keeper,
And I will fight his fight;
And speak the word for beast and bird
Till the world shall set things right.

Voice Of The Voiceless, by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

------------------
If only we could feel and understand all each others feelings....then EMPATHY and LOVE would be law in itself

If the other things that were different about this cow than what this particular article states were a joke it was not presented as a joke in today's ( Sun. Nov. 11,2007 ) Detroit Free Press Newspaper, HSC.

The list that I gave here regarding what was different about this cow was word for word exactly as it was written in the Detroit Free Press article. I am having no success thus far of finding that exact article online. Will keep looking though.

The article that I posted above with the story came from another editon of the newspaper earlier this week. There was an update today where the list was presented. Which also told of the investigation.

Admittedly the one about altering the cow genetically to produce chocolate milk sounds like a joke but some of our meat sources we buy at the supermarket are also from genetically engineered sources as they are the meat of cloned animals. So experimentation on animals and altering their genetics is not something that is uncommon these days. For that reason it would not surprise me if they are experimenting along those lines. Nothing suprises me anymore that people do.

The cow belonged to a couple from Spokane, Washington and they considered the cow a pet and companion. It was sent to a breeding ranch by the couple where it escaped a week ago.

I did not take it as a joke because it was not presented in the newspaper as a joke.

Since all animals are intelligent and can be trained it isn't that far fetched that a certain breed of cow could be trained to guard an auto-dealership lot either. It doesn't say that this particular cow was one of those who guarded an auto - dealership, it says it is of the same breed. A cow guarding an auto-dealership lot may be strange to me,living in Michigan, and strange to others who live in other places of the country but it might not be strange at all in certain areas of Wash. State.

Seems this cow was a pet. Which might explain why it could count out its age with its cloven feet.

The bit about the chocolate milk is totally untrue, although to whoever thought it up - nice try! Given that cocoa (and sugar) come from plants, and I don't think we are anywhere near getting a cow's metabolism to engineer either of these products as yet. (Not even in America.)

I would hope not, Xena. I would hope we haven't become that insane, not to mention lazy.

Since you presented it as a fact, I am wondering if it is just your opinion that it is not true or did you read it somewhere? If you read it somewhere would like to see it if you can post it.

Admittedly, as I said before, it does sound far fetched but as I also said, nothing surprises me anymore. I am getting desensitized to the rampant insanity in the world.

If anyone can enlighten me on something, please do.

Why do people hate cows so much?

Why do they assume they are stupid and don't have feelings?

How many people have actually made a study of how cows feel about the world and perceive the world?

Do you know that when a calf is taken from the mother (so people can take the milk), the mother will cry continuously and search hopelessly for the calf for weeks on end?

I thought the idea of genetically altering cows to produce chocolate milk was a completely far-fetched ridiculous joke. I made a dead-pan joke that voiced my irritation at our society and the fact that they probably WOULD go that far if possible.

I am just as disgusted as the next person at the way animals are caged and tortured by corporate American fast-food interests. I don't, however, think that using animals the way native Americans did is wrong. I have a balanced perspective and a grip on reality.

Do you have a job?

Do you take care of your own children and work too?

After you provide for and protect your children do you then dash off to the natural foods store with all the money you make from your job and purchase and prepare healthy and delicious vegan meals that take less time than popping in a lean cuisine? Because, if you do, then by all means educate me. If you don't, you need to stop trying to "teach" others so much and begin educating yourself.

You just stood there screaming
fearing no one was listening to you
they say the empty can rattles the most
the sound of your own voice must sooth you
hearing only what you want to hear
and knowing only what you've heard
you, you're smothered in tragedy
and you're out to save the world

misery
you insist that the weight of the world
should be on your shoulders
misery
there's much more to life than what you see
my friend of misery

you still stood there screaming
no one caring about these words you tell
my friend before your voice is gone
one man's fun is another's hell
these times are said to try men's souls
but something's wrong with all you see
you, you'll take it on all yourself
remember, misery loves company

misery
you insist that the weight of the world
should be on your shoulders
misery
there's much more to life than what you see
my friend of misery

you just stood there screaming
my friend of misery

There are many who are very much aware of the atrocities of the world... having experienced them first hand. You are going to have to demonstrate your compassion for your fellow humans if you don't want to just hurt the cause you believe in so deeply. Please don't reply to my comments anymore. I am not willing to spend my energy defending myself against your skewed views of me. I need to take care of myself so I can take care of my child and my responsibilities. I will do you the same courtesy. If you continue to attempt to coerce responses from me to suck my energy against my will, I will view you as a vampire and deal with you as such.

Wow, MM.

I wasn't trying to be personal to you, I just get emotional.

My heart is pounding with hurt now.

I get emotional, that's just me, I'm sorry.

I wasn't being personal.

It's just how I feel in general.

Did I say anywhere on this thread that I hate people who eat meat and that I judge people who do?

I am not like all animal activists. I am a free-thinker- that's not easy because it also makes me a loner.

My boys do eat meat actually, because their father does, etc.

Doesn't that go to show how non-judgmental I am in general?

All is One.

We just don't see it.

Life is a dream, but it's not so much of a dream while we're here.

We just have to do the best we can while we are here.....those who do have eyes and can see.....we can only do our best.......
