We had to put our dog Penny to sleep a few weeks ago.......it was heartbreaking. My niece was so upset and mad at us for not saving her......she is 8 and has become very attached to our brood of dogs and cats. Well she asked me when the funeral would be....so I told her we would have it on a Sunday and if she would like to do the service. So I found a lovely poem to help heal and say goodbye......

A poem, for Penny…..

We lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silent thoughts with me.

She'll come no longer to my call,
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to His golden throne.

And though my eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me,
And for her love and loyalty.

Bless all the little animals that come into our homes and hearts......

PixieDust, what a beautiful and heartfelt poem.
No doubt it brought a tear your eye as well...

*sigh

Thank you all for you kind thoughts...

Nattie - So sorry for Monty, they just entwind them in our hearts and it very hard to say goodbye.....my thoughts are with you as well.

During our little service - my niece wanted all of Penny's dog friends to come to, we are in a small neighborhood, so we had the other dogs and children who loved Penny Pooh. It was very sweet. I had a garden Fairy that I put as her place in the yard and some shells too.

The neighbors next door had a great ole shepard "Sarge" they had to put him to sleep this week! So that is 2 gone from the neighborhood. He was a rescue that was lost on the Astoria bridge! Another great dog too...

YFIS - thank you. And I still ball my eyes out. Kids handle these things so differently, so I felt it would help her and us.

Blessing to you all

For Penny Monty and All the Pets on the other side

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Angel - I wish you were here too! She is and will be missed. Mener you stayed with her when we had to put Griz to sleep...sigh too many have crossed Rainbow Bridge.......

(And it's Griz - we still have Bear! Hee Hee!)

The Pony is doing well, adjusting to being the only dog with 5 CATS! He's goes pretty much everywhere with us and he's still just a silly ole pony!

The Pony aka Bear is the other dog and Rottie - who acts like a horse!

Yes I mener staying with Pooey! The lil seal. er, big seal. lol. Always had kisses for Mikey - whether he wanted em or not. She knew he didn't, but she also knew that deep down inside he really DID! It was their game.

PONY!! lol ... who acts like a horse and thinks he's the size of a cat. Talk about confused. lol. He's a big ole lovable bear for sure.
