If there are any folks here from Cleveland Ohio, please visit the Lake View Cemetery to see the Haserot Angel. Possibly the most beautiful sculpture I have ever seen (in photo's sniff...). Any boffs herewho can put a pic up of it? Out of my league I'm afraid! IP: Logged |

Whilst I am generally not into angels, I agree from an artistic point of view it is a very interesting sculpture. (I live an hour or so from it) quote: The Weeping Angel {Haserot family plot} by WonderlandGlass http://www.forgottenoh.com/LakeView/haserot http://www.redbubble.com/people/wonderlandglass/works/7960721-the-weeping-a ngel-haserot-family-plot The following description is from the website forgotten Ohio. Lake View’s most famous piece of graveside sculpture stands atop the grave of Francis Haserot and his family, near the Mark Hanna mausoleum at the edge of the cemetery proper. The statue at their cemetery plot was sculpted in 1924 by Herman Matzen. The name I’ve always heard attached to the piece is “The Angel of Death Victorious.” The angel has his hands folded atop something that most people mistakenly call a sword. It would make sense, but in this case he’s holding an upside down torch, symbolizing a life extinguished. His pose is creepy enough, but the years have streaked his bronze skin and caused tears of discolored metal to stream from his blank eyes.
