^That pretty much sums it up.

Astrology teaches us that we reincarnate until all of our karmic "lessons" are learned; biblical dogma insists that the "good" go directly to heaven; do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

One question astrology does not really answer is what becomes of the consciousness after the final incarnation? (Perhaps it is actually Buddhism that answers this and my own ignorance is the problem).

It's also curious that the bible makes no direct mention of reincarnation given its many astrotheological references and metaphors. Obviously such a declaration would conflict with its own notions of heaven but the bible is not lacking for contradictions within itself anyways. How does a metaphysically-minded Christian rectify the two?

How do you feel about karmic astrology in general? I am guessing you're dismissive of it? Because how would one have karma if there was no reincarnation?

I see karma as more energy we send out and get back, and a lot of it is blind, that is we didn't individually earn it anymore than others earn our deeds good & bad (though astrology can give a heads up on such blind karma). And one can believe in karma without believing in reincarnation.

I've read plenty of books on astrology and only some of them promoted the idea of reincarnation. I never thought that one had to believe in reincarnation to believe in astrology (though it makes sense to me that if spirits reincarnate with a purpose then astrology would make a lot of sense regarding to how those births happen, similar to how some occultists use astrology to best plan their rituals and spells to achieve maximum effect).

As for what would happen after the final incarnation (assuming a string of lifetimes with a purpose) I'd have to know what exactly that purpose is before hazarding a guess. Ok, I'll assume the experience is to learn and grow, and I'd presume a spirit that has learned enough would reincarnate on another world or dimension or otherwise move on to a different type of existence, leaving Earthly life behind as one outgrows a cradle. And maybe a person can be reincarnated as a planet or star or even new cosmos, who knows?

I have met Christians who believe in reincarnation (granted, they're as rare as charismatic Baptists, but they do exist), and their view is that most people are imperfect and eternal life (or damnation) has to be earned by very notable actions or one lingers in Limbo or Purgatory to come back to go through the process again until they've become so purified (or tainted) that their eternal afterlife awaits. While I've met a couple who had memories of previous lives and/or held metaphysical beliefs that incorporated Christianity, I got the powerful impression that most of them (though I've only met a few) came to believe this because they couldn't believe in a tyranny of a God that condemned the countless good people who were of the wrong (or no) religion while giving a pass to some vile ******** just because Jesus washed their sins away (that is, they didn't believe in a god who's test was how much people stroked his ego), and also in thinking about the many people throughout history who have existed who never heard the Christian message to even have a chance to accept Jesus (or worse, met some really nasty Christians who tortured, massacred, and enslaved them so that they'd never be able to honestly accept Jesus). That is to say, none of them indicated any Biblical passage for their belief in reincarnation but came to accept it to overlook certain disturbing implications of their faith.

Right, I don't believe in Karma. I see the nodes as goals in this life. The Bible says "Once to be born and once to die"

Personally, I don't feel that astrology has to be about reincarnation.

I take nodes to be about patterns that you cling to (south node) which do not bring about the changes that you want (north node). You have to take the north node route to happiness. To me, nodes are a lesson about patterns and learning from opposites--about bringing together opposing sides to create a happy, harmonious, balanced whole. I do not see them as being about past lives.

The moon is about the subconscious, your inner way of being, can be connected to your mother, is connected to your emotions. Saturn, to be, is about discipline and restriction. Again, for me, each placement is about lessons to be learned, not a past life.

As for karma, it's not an absolute. Plenty of rotten people have comfort and luxury; plenty of good people suffer and struggle. I don't believe that people who suffer somehow did something in another life to deserve the pain that they experience now. That's just not what I believe. Suffering is a very tricky subject, and one that I struggle with, but one thing that I do believe about life is that it's 50% fate and 50% your actions. Sometimes, we bring about our own suffering through bad choices; other times, it falls on us and is out of our control. Everyone has a form of suffering in his/her life, and it's something that everyone has to deal with at some point. Some people might seem to have it all, or to have easy lives, but even they usually struggle with one thing or another, though their suffering may be more hidden/internal as opposed to those whose suffering is more obvious.

I do not believe in reincarnation, personally. I don't want to disrespect those that do, though, so I'm going to leave it at that.

AQ, you have literal Bible readers and the Mystical. Both "see" Bibical references differently.

It is accepted by both readers that the Bible was compiled Constantinople in 553 A.D.,giving us todays versions.

That said, more is to be gleaned from the cut books than what is left.

A Mystic wanders through the pages of the Bible and finds many left behind and rich references to reincarnation.

Very basic ones appear in the NT.

Luke 9
[7] Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
[8] And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again."

"Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? (John 9:2)."

Or Jesus the Christ saying "in my Fathers house there are many mansions. What do you sumise "mansions" are ...

John 14:2
In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

Bad things happening to good people and good things happening to bad can be summed up in what and how people think (whether reincarnation is true or not). To get Biblical with it: "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." We can sow the seeds of positive thoughts or negative thoughts. We attract much of what we experience in life with our thoughts. Good people can think negative thoughts and be their own worst enemy. Also Biblical (in Proverbs) is: "As a man thinketh, so is he."

I believe "What you reap you sow" in this life. I have seen it time and time, again. It is the story of Haman in the Book Of Ester. Haman made the gallow for Mordechai to be hanged. Haman plotted against Mordechai who was a good and decent man. Haman got hanged on it.

It varies with different Faiths. We become perfected. Such as Jesus saying "what I am, ye are also. ( < paraphrased) Jesus was a perfected soul and we are to work towards that perfection.. That is why we are given many reincarnated returns. God loves us that much

Actually, you get to pass go immediately and end up on Boardwalk (in the US version) or Mayfair (in the UK version). You immediately get to errect as many hotels as you want and charge everyone for landing on those spots. As you pass go, you don't collect $200, but $200 million.

No reincarnation, no past lives, no future lives, no soul mates/twin flames. Life is a one shot deal in the Bible. You already know that.

I know what the bible says (well, in one section, anyway), I am just curious how a person rectifies their belief in astrology with their belief in biblical teachings. Technically, it's blasphemous and "a sin" to follow astrology/divination altogether, not to mention celebrity fandom/celebrity worship, also against biblical teachings.

Having said that, I am well aware that there are multiple interpretations one can make and extract to whatever situation, as well as blatant and obvious contradictions within the bible ("an eye for an eye/turn the other cheek" etc.) so I can also sort of see how a Christian can come to embrace the principle of reincarnation and not feel that it is at odds with their biblical beliefs.

YTA,
quote:
No reincarnation, no past lives,

Please explain how if that was true, the Bible states clearly and in most (if not all) versions that:

quote:
[7] Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
[8] And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again."

Well, it's not my place to question. It's called faith. Either you believe and follow, or you don't believe and don't follow.

I'm not going to engage in some form of endless debate.

The whole concept of Christianity is to live on Earth once, and then retire to the Glory Land for eternity. The Bible doesn't say you'll come back to Earth as someone else. Only one person in the Bible came back to Earth, and He wasn't reincarnated but resurrected and then ascended. "He is risen from the dead" refers to the resurrection of Jesus. You all know that very well.

It isn't as though Sarah, wife of Abraham, mother of Issac, came back as a male goatherder who crossed the Red Sea. That would be reincarnation. Nobody in the Bible got reincarnated.

I'm not here to judge you because it's not my place. I only ask that you not judge me because I don't subscribe to what you believe.

I know that the Buddhists believe that it is possible to reach nirvana (following a final incarnation). Assuming the bible DOES make reference to reincarnation and other lives, "heaven" would simply be the place you go after the final incarnation. I don't see how the concepts would be fundamentally at odds.

Like I said, the final incarnation occurs after the first go-around on Earth. There is no reincarnation in Christianity. The soul is on Earth once and once only. As harsh as it sounds, some go to one location, and some go to the other place. It's that clear cut.

It just occurs to me how odd it is that the Christians, Jews, and Muslims took up astrology and yet today astrology is so often mixed with ideas of reincarnation when all 3 religions that effectively "sponsored" astrology so that it's still popular today were against that concept.

Each man is born once and dies once, according to the Bible. There are a few men who were raptured i.e taken up to Heaven while living. They will come back and will die. One generation will not see death. That is the generation which will be Raptured. All other men will be born and die once.
The Bible says that each man is born once and then has the Judgement(after death). Nothing said in the Bible is EVER contradicted in any other part of the Bible.

The New and Old testament are different Dispensations which is too complicated to get into, now, but everything in the Bible can always be reconciled and is never contradicted. I can say that for 100% certainty. That means that the Bible does not allow for reincarnation. People can say it does but no Biblical Scholar will support that. The extra Biblical books like Jesus lived in Egypt and got married etc etc say all sorts of things, but that is not the Bible.
