Or not, there have been various pontiffs resign over the years.

Then there were dueling pontiffs when Rome and France had "popes"

Then there was the schism between the "pope" and orthodox prelate in Constantinople

B/c much of Christianity in the US is Luther's "sola scripture" based it is often overlooked that the Othodox never accepted the claim of Rome to being the seat of Peter and thus the heir of Peter (so to speak).

I find it somewhat odd that in the West, the Orthodox pretty much are never mentioned but are as old as anything in Rome, possibly older.

Sort of interesting things in the RC atm, for example the last runner up to be the pontiff was a Jesuit from Brazil.

They also have a sort of rift between the regular RC and a very traditional RC found in the SSPX (Society of Saint Pious X) who want things like Latin mass etc

No one really knows tvh, this is one of the few things left in the world that no one really can guess.

Suspect it will be an Italian though, even when the current pontiff stepped down b/c he wants the RC to be more Evangelistic.

as if this pope wasn't a great candidate for antichrist already, you mean? ALL popes with a few exceptions have been the religious arm of the antichrist, ie the evil wrought by governments in the name of THEIR god with the blessings of the church.

this one has stood behind pedophiles in all corners of the church, i suspect he is stepping down before he is exposed as one himself.

Attributed to St. Malachy, an Irish archbishop canonized in 1190, the Prophecy of the Popes would date to 1139. The document predicted that there would be only 112 more popes before the Last Judgment — and Benedict XVI is 111.

One of the favorites to succeed Benedict XVI is Ghanaian Cardinal Turkson.

Perhaps the Light-bearer has control the of the Vatican after all... Things are looking up -nods-

Here is another little problem with that "prophecy":

There existed what was known as the Avignonian Papacy, were you had dueling "popes" for a period of time.

That would interrupt the count so to speak.

Cardinals from Canada, Nigeria and Ghana are among the leading candidates to succeed Benedict XVI as pope, according to bookmakers’ odds.

Nigeria’s Francis Arinze, 80, is the 2-1 favorite at London-based William Hill Plc, meaning a 1-euro ($1.34) winning wager would return a 2-euro profit. Peter Turkson, 64, of Ghana is second favorite at 5-2. At Paddy Power Plc, Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet, 68, is the 5-2 frontrunner

Turkson would be refreshing and a major change to the Popehood. (Popeship)? At 64 he would bring fresh ideas and hopefully a change in doctrines.
He won`t be the first African Pope tho!

quote:
According to the website of National Black Catholic Congress, the three Popes of North Africa origin were: Pope Victor who was the 13th Pope and the first Pope to speak Latin and who changed the official language of the Vatican from Greek to Latin. The second was Pope Miltiades, the 32nd Pope and the third was Pope Gelasius, the 49th Pope.

It is therefore not accurate that if elected a Pope Turkson will be the first African Pope. However, he would be the fourth but the first Black African Pope, south of the Sahara, similar to His Excellency Kofi Annan, the first Black African south of the Sahara to be chosen as United Nations Secretary General but the second African do to hold the position after Boutros Boutros Ghali, also of North Africa origin (from Egypt)

Will someone be kind enough to point me to the part of the Bible that states the Pope is the anti-Christ. I missed that chapter and verse!!

OR is this another doctrine induced piece of hysteria?

When counting Popes, let us not to forget Pope Joan....

Don't call me hysterical and expect me to answer your question

I will give you the outline, but I am not going to search for Scriptures and do a Bible study because you know how that goes lol

First of all you have to go to the church of Laodecia( sp) This is the Catholic Church. It is very identifiable as such from even the colors of the Church, purple and red, but and for it's richness and the fact the the priests are above the people. You can read it. I am going by memory from years ago. This church is not a true church, true believers in Jesus.

That is just the background to the ***** of Babylon which is the Catholic church, as it is in the city that sits on 7 hills and Rome is the only one that does.

The false world leader, who is teamed up with the AC will come from this false religious system.

I may be off, in some details. You can google it, if you want. I have spent so much time trying to educate people and people diss me, so you can do it yourself, with all due respect.

FWIW, the Haggai Sophia in Constantinople also sits on 7 hills.
http://www.istanbulguide.net/insolite/english/seven_hills.htm

Present day Istanbul of course.

Let me add AA, Bible centric faith in the West places the Roman Church in opposition to itself in all things. IMO that is a mistake as contrary to that view, the Christian Faith is far far larger than just the Roman Church. This view springs from Lutherism and Anglicanism opposing Rome's claims.
