White smoke appeared from the chimney above the Sistine Chapel, and bells from St. Peter's Basilica have pealed, meaning the 115 Roman Catholic cardinals gathered at the Vatican from all over the world have chosen a new pope.

The church's 266th pontiff will replace Benedict XVI, whose surprise resignation last month prompted the cardinals to initiate a conclave, a Latin phrase meaning "with a key," to pick a new leader for the world's almost 2 billion Catholics.

Although it's not immediately clear who received the necessary two-thirds vote, several candidates were mentioned as front runners, including what could be the first African pope or the first pope from the U.S. or Canada. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/cardinals-choose-pope-succeed-benedict-181023715.html

As of 2:06 pm we had a new Pope. I still say it will be a North American Pope. We will know in a few minutes.

North America had too many troubles within the church for their Pope to be elected.

A fresh and young face.....

Actually, I was very surprised anyone thought N.A. had a chance at the Papacy.

I knew it.

As I previously mentioned in my previous post.
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000534-3.html

I still stick to my reasoning why a South American pope was chosen.

South America is experiencing a rise in Catholicism and is experiencing more high economic growth.

When combined you get a huge population looking for salvation and an economy big enough to support the church.

So true SPOOL (sorry for mangling your name!)...the north is growing more anti church by the day...and the vatican may have given up on us gay-loving cosmopolitans too. I hear he has no truckwith modern notions of tolerance in that direction...maybe he will apply that to pedophiles as well?

A Jesuit..of the Society of Jesus..

Uhm..appears to be a humble man..

However as much as I loved Karol Wotijeszw (John Paul) is as much as I distrust this one.

I know a great deal of that society/fraternity

I was awoken this morning by a radio reporter mentioning that the new pope was elected on the 13th day in the year (20)13.

Gut wise, this guy does not feel good to me. This is not anything to do with prophecy, just a gut feel of person to person.

They are all bad guys yes?

The Jesuits have a lot of skeletons in their closet. One has a difficult time sorting who`s junk is who`s from either closet.

The church is giving him a chance to save it so we shall see if more harm than good comes from it...

Hi ceridwen!

It was a 13 day, as a day on it's own and as a complete d/m/y as well...death of the old to set the stage for rebirth...very symbolic for a church built on the resurrection story, as we approach easter!

I bet david icke is having a field day with the symbolusm and ritualistic value to the reptiles...though not the 13yh day of the year..
