Best of Rumi:
=============

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”

“What you seek is seeking you.”

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
//A Very "Chiron" thing to say

“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.”

“Travel brings power and love back into your life.”

“Be like melting snow -- wash yourself of yourself.”

“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?”

“Be empty of worrying.
Think of who created thought!
Why do you stay in prison
When the door is so wide open?”

“Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.”

“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.”

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”

“Ignore those that make you fearful and sad, that degrade you back towards disease and death.”

“And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth,
"You owe me."
Look what happens with love like that.
It lights up the sky.”

“Don't be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”

“Silence is the language of God,
all else is poor translation.”

“The Candle of the Heart is Kindled by the Love of God"

“Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”

“Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure.”

“I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think.”

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”

“Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

“A thousand half-loves must be forsaken to take one whole heart home.”

"You wander from room to room
Hunting for the diamond necklace
That is already around your neck!”
=============================================

Found these, posted on FB and here. It would be great to have a best quote collection of all Sufi Masters.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.

We love: that's why life is full of so many wonderful gifts.

If I love myself , I love you. If I love you, I love myself.

A lifetime without Love is of no account. Love is the Water of Life. Drink it down with heart and soul!

Love exalts our earthly bodies to heaven, and makes the very hills to dance with joy!

The lover's ailment is different from all ailments; Love is the astrolabe of God's mysteries.

Can you find another market like this? Where, with your one rose, you can buy hundreds of rose gardens with your love.

Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi

I Too Have Been Covered With Thorns

I am your moon and your moonlight too
I am your flower garden and your water too.
I have come all this way eager for you,
without shoes or shawl.
I want you to laugh, to kill all your worries, to love you, to nourish you.
Oh sweet bitterness, I will soothe you and heal you.
I will bring you roses. I too have been covered with thorns.

Beyond our ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase 'each other'
doesn't make sense any more.

Jalaluddin (Rumi)

This Love is beyond the study of theology,
that old trickery and hypocrisy.
I you want to improve your mind that way

Dont search for heaven and hell in the future. Both are now present. Whenever we manage to love without expectations, calculations, negotiations, we are indeed in heaven. Whenever we fight, hate, we are in hell.

Problem w/quotes AA, is they are a bit of mental crutch, they allow things to be said in an inorganic manner that seem profound, but are not deeply investigated.

You've no idea how hard I've looked for a gift to bring You.
Nothing seemed right. What's the point of bringing gold
to the gold mine, or water to the Ocean. Everything I came
up with was like taking spices to the Orient. It's no good
giving my heart and my soul because you already have these.
So- I've brought you a mirror. Look at yourself and
remember me.

God turns you from one feeling to another and teaches you by means of opposites, so that you will have two wings to fly - not one

Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life.

Rumi is beautiful. Thanks for posting

This one really struck a chord for me:

All religions, all this singing, one song. The differences are just illusion and vanity. The sun's light looks a little different on this wall than it does on that wall, and a lot different on this other one, but its still one light -Rumi

Why should I stay at the bottom of a well, when a strong
rope is in my hand. -Rumi

You are welcome Juniperb! so much truth and wisdom in Rumi

Every war and every conflict
between human beings has happened
because of some disagreement about names.

It is such an unnecessary foolishness,
because just beyond the arguing
there is a long table of companionship
set and waiting for us to sit down.

What is praised is one, so the praise is one too,
many jugs being poured into a huge basin.
All religions, all this singing, one song.

The differences are just illusion and vanity.
Sunlight looks a little different
on this wall than it does on that wall
and a lot different on this other one,
but it is still one light.

We have borrowed these clothes,
these time-and-space personalities,
from a light, and when we praise,
we are pouring them back in.

Edit to add whole poem

The truth was a mirror in the hands of God. It fell, and broke into pieces.
Everybody took a piece of it, and they looked at it and thought they had the truth.

Rumi is popular with practitioners of various faiths, even with secular humanists. Understandable. We in the west tend to forget (or perhaps conveniently ignore) that although he was a Sufi and therefore unrestricted by orthodox dogma, he was also a devout Muslim:

"I am the servant of the Qur'an as long as I have life. I am the dust on the path of Muhammad, the Chosen one. If anyone quotes anything except this from my sayings, I am quit of him and outraged by these words"

A sufi would no sooner advocate religion without the benefit of spirituality then they would spirituality without the benefit of religion. We live in the material world, after all.
