I'm thinking of joining.

Official Homepage

It's all in good fun and the testimonials are hilarious.

I also have a book called Elvis Religion:The Cult of the King. It's about the myriad ways in which fans have taken their adoration of Elvis to extremes, and it attempts to offer credible, academic-sounding reasons for the phenomenon. Despite the outrageous subject matter, the author managed to write a terribly dry and boring book. I don't recommend it.

I also have a video called He Touched Me: The Gospel Side of Elvis. This is a good video, it features stories from Elvis' friends and co-workers about things like The King's generosity (gave away basically everything he had), his humility, and...most interesting to me...his supernatural powers, like mind-reading and commanding the weather. I believe he was probably psychic; I'm on the fence about him being able to make it stop raining. (Though I think rain dances do have validity, I need to be clear on that.)

All things considered, I wonder if the "deification" of Elvis is primarily done for humor, or because of some recognition of his spiritual advancement, or both?

Maybe people do recognize a spiritual leader in Elvis, they way they might see that spiritual glow in the leaders of actual religions, like Mother Theresa or the Dalai Lama or even the Pope...or wherever great wisdom makes itself known. I know Elvis believed he had a "calling" and tried to minister to people deliberately through gospel music and also by reading spiritual texts on stage.

If we are just vessels that can be filled with the Holy Spirit, Presence, God-Consciousness, etcetera (take your pick) then I think it makes sense to mark out people who seem to epitomize the spiritual qualities we associate with that enlightenment. Even if that person is Elvis.

So I'm making this tribute thread to someone who I believe attained some special connection with the Other Side.

Sweet, Sweet Spirit

quote:
Still, despite, and partly because of, his great worldly success, along with childhood sorrows, including the loss of his twin brother Aaron at birth, and the early loss of his mother, he was deeply in touch with a sense of loneliness. This led him in later years to engage in extensive study of oriental wisdom. Not only did he seriously learn martial arts, but, unbeknownst to most of the public, he read constantly books such as H.P. Blavatsky’s The Secret Doctrine and The Voice of the Silence, W.Y. Evans-Wentz’s translation of The Tibetan Book of the Dead, Kalil Gibran's The Prophet, Paramhansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi, Richard Maurice Bucke’s Cosmic Consciousness, J. Krishnamurti’s The First and the Last Freedom, the Tao Te Ching, Dane Rudhyar’s New Mansions for New Men, Chogyam Trungpa’s Sacred Path of the Warrior, Joel Goldsmith’s The Infinite Way, Joseph Benner’s The Impersonal Life (Elvis gave away hundreds of copies), Nicholas Roerich’s Flame in the Chalice, and Paul Brunton’s The Wisdom of the Overself, among many others. He was documented to have read over a thousand books on spiritual themes. His daughter, Lisa-Mary, remembers:

"My father's library of spiritual books is amazing. I've gone through these books. They're covered with his notes. He wrote on the top of the page, on the bottom of the page, in the margins - everywhere. You can hear him thinking when you read those notes."

quote:
In one conversation with Geller, Elvis had stated:

"All I want is to know the truth, to know and experience God. I'm a searcher, that's what I'm all about."

Elvis the Bodhisattva

Also: Elvis asked Dane Rudhyar personally to draw up his astrological chart. Seen here:

quote:
"Over the following years, Elvis would periodically refer to Rudhyars astrological interpretation of his chart. Here are a few highlights from that provocative document:

'The over-all planetary structure of your chart is quite complex. It belongs to . . . the Splash Type . . . This shows versatility and in some cases the ability literally to make a splash in the world . . .

'. . Jupiter is, however, aspecting most harmoniously the Sun in your Second House (which deals with money, possessions, gains, etc.) and Neptune in your Tenth House. As Neptune refers to music, motion pictures, collective human vibrations and mass enthusiasms, its position in the House representing your public, professional life is certainly most pertinent. This Jupiter . . . in your Twelfth House . . . suggest that you are open to inspiration and inner guidance, and a channel for the fulfillment of a social human need. I would hardly know how to define clearly what this need is, but it may some day extend beyond what you at present bring to people.'

That's fantastic

Was it Lisa Marie that joined Scientology or Elvis or both?

Just Priscilla and Lisa.

quote:
It was Elvis, though who really ferreted out the scheme behind Scientology when Peggy Lipton, a woman he was dating at the time, convinced him to go to a meeting. Elvis left pretty quickly, and, according to his associate Lamar Fike, summed up his experience with the Scientologists thusly: "F*** those people! There's no way I'll ever get involved with that son-of-a-b****in' group! All they want is my money." Indeed — the King hath left the building.

Hi mirage! Yes, very cool, especially Rudhyar's analysis of his 12H Jupiter and its aspects.

Elvis was, as Randall mentioned on another thread, a great fan of Cheiro's Book of Numbers. He was more interested in numerology than astrology.

Elvis' nodal axis is very close to Einstein's.

I actually thought Elvis might come out of hiding once he heard Lisa Marie joined Scientology. And again once he learned of her marriage to Michael Jackson.

^ LOL, shura

Randall, after spending a lot of time examining the evidence, learning about Elvis, studying the character and listening to the first-hand testimony of his family, friends and the Memphis Mafia, I firmly believe Elvis is physically dead. But alive in Spirit of course!

Could Lisa Marie have sung this song this way, if she knew her father was alive?

That is incomprehensible to me.

Also, Lisa Marie's lyrics in the song Nobody Noticed It, which is about her father:

I heard broken footsteps
Was that you limping
Well I wish I that could have spent just a little bit more time with you...yeah

Tears on my ceiling
Weren't you watching
Well I guess that none of us will ever know what comes after this

Oh my lord, that's sad.

I checked and apparantly Lisa left the scientologists. Phew!

6 degrees (well, 3) Lisa Marie was married to Michael Jackson who was besties with my pretend gf Kidada Jones who was engaged to Tupac Shakur when he died and around whom there remains a surprisingly large group of fans who believe he faked his death and is living in Cuba. Coincidence? hmmm

Curious - where do they say Elvis is hiding out?

I don't doubt she was sad. She would never be able to see him again.

He was traced by private investigators to Kallamazoo Michigan (as John Burrows) before he disappeared again.

Randall,

I hesitate to mention things like this because they are extraordinary and people may think I am lying. But my husband's uncle is a pathologist whose friend did the autopsy on Elvis. My husband's uncle is a very successful, well-adjusted doctor. He's still alive in his 80's. He says that his friend told him that Elvis's body was completely loaded with drugs when he died. Not just prescription drugs but also cocaine (as was documented at length in Peter Guralnick's biography Careless Love.)

Elvis had been on the verge of death from drug overdose many times. Also he was on so many sedatives, and eating so much food at the end, that he would often fall asleep while eating and almost choke.

There is just no way Elvis would have made it until 2008.

He did look very unhealthy at his last major concert in Hawaii. I'm sure he's probably dead now. But it was 1988, not 2008 (my bad--I will change it in the other thread), when he called Gail. And remember, when the FBI does a faked death, sometimes they do use a corpse. That doesn't mean it was Elvis' corpse. There are many discepancies in the autopsy. And the concensus is that for the open casket funeral, it would have to look very much like Elvis. Eyewitnesses thought it odd that Elvis' body appeared to be sweating at the funeral. Dead people don't sweat. Wax replicas do sweat.

Elvis could have "died" that day on the stage when riddled with gunfire. It was very realistic, and his fans were horrified. There is some speculation that he changed his mind at the last minute and just started laughing.

I forgot to mention that I have a book called The Two Kings: Jesus and Elvis, by A.J. Jacobs:

The book compares the two Kings like so:

quote:
Jesus walked on water (Matthew 14:25).
Elvis surfed (Blue Hawaii, Paramount, 1965).

Jesus was a carpenter.
Elvis majored in wood shop/industrial art in high school.

Jesus lived in a state of grace in a Near Eastern land.
Elvis lived in Graceland in a nearly eastern state.

Jesus wore a crown of thorns.
Elvis wore Royal Crown hair styler.

Jesus' entourage, the Apostles, had 12 members.
Elvis' entourage, the Memphis Mafia, had 12 members.

Jesus was resurrected.
Elvis had the famous comeback special in 1968.

Jesus is a Capricorn (December 25th).
Elvis is a Capricorn (January 8th).

"[Jesus'] countenance was like lightning and his raiment white as snow" (Matthew 28:3).
Elvis' trademarks were a lightning bolt and snow-white jumpsuits.

Yeah, I've seen that before. But it doesn't say it all, it doesn't prove Elvis is alive, it just proves that someone thinks Elvis wrote his own death certificate. Considering the fact that Elvis was fascinated by death, spent a lot of time at his mother's plot at the cemetery, and often visited morgues to look at bodies...also considering how much sway he had with people...it's not too improbable that he somehow arranged for this. He certainly knew the end was coming soon.

"But all my trials, Lord, will soon be over."
-American Trilogy

Elvis: The Final 24 Hours

The last half of the video, where the death is discussed in graphic detail by the people closest to him, speaks for itself.

I guarantee if you read Gail's latest book, Elvis Undercover, You will be 100 percent convinced that the feds put him in the Witness Relocation Program. Elvis just couldn't disappear. He left many clues for his fans.

Nah. As I said, my husband's uncle knows the pathologist who performed the autopsy, and I will always trust that "grapevine" more than Gail's book.

Plus he never would have lived that long.

Plus his friends and family talk about dealing with his corpse in very explicit, convincing terms.

Believe whatever you want, though...by all means!
