It's been raining a little! Not enough to cause a dent in our drought, but still...it's nice. Some more coming tonight...while I'm at Improv. I just got at least a contract position at my old bank. I start tomorrow. Yay! IP: Logged |

It's, I guess, kind of like an independent contractor position, though I don't believe that I'll have to bill them. Basically, the bank's not hiring (officially), but has a need I can help with (regulatory compliance), so they are employing me without making me a full time employee (though with full time hours). They're compensating me extra since I don't have benefits. It's a way of reintroducing me to the company, and hopefully keeping me around until such a time as they can justify bringing me on full time. IP: Logged |

Indeed. I guess I might have to invoice them. She's even giving me options for how often I want to get paid. If you have Hulu, you should watch the series The Wrong Man(s). It's like six episodes long. It's about a regular guy (a mediocre city employee) (and his mailroom "friend" [sort of friend]) that gets caught up in this web of crime and intrigue after having witnessed a car crash, and happening to pick up a ringing phone left on the scene. It's a buddy-like-comedy [akin to the show Chuck] with plenty of action, destruction and awkwardness. Pretty fun show. Disappointed to see that there's only one season. I blew through it quick. Yeah, to prove you are truly an independent contractor, you probably have to give them an invoice. Do you get to work your own hours? That's one of the elements the IRS uses to distinguish them from employees. Are you watching this season of Face Off? IP: Logged |

I haven't started yet, no. In fact, right now we don't have cable. We have our Roku (and we're thinking about getting Chromecast, which is an awesome little device), so we have access to some network stuff. Probably not SyFy, though. Since I'm working, we'll probably order cable soon. And, yes, I think I can make my own hours. I should probably go ahead and make an invoice today, since she said she was willing to pay me every week if I wanted. IP: Logged |

Syfy is like HBO, I guess. You have to verify your regular television subscription in order to watch online. Media (cable/dish) companies are wielding too much power these days. A network like SyFy could run it's shows online with ads, and HBO could surely get a little money per episode of their best shows in order to stream online to non-tv subscribers.IP: Logged |

Intrigued to see a bad episode? Yeah, more cable networks are doing that. Online programming for the major networks is still easy, though. But FOX makes you wait 8 days after an episode airs (only their satellite subsctribers get instant access). My friend doesn't have cable and uses Tubeplus to watch Face Off and most other tv shows. It's totally free. You just type in the name of the show at the top to search. IP: Logged |

We've already got Netflix and Hulu. We watch on a Roku. I definitely want a Chromecast, though. I just learned about Chromecast, and it sounds awesome. My IT friend just invited me to Plex, too, where he's got 140 DVD available on his server to share with his friends. He's still got a lot to go. He easily has more DVDs than anyone I know. I can't imagine anyone wanting to store all of those physically. IP: Logged |

What does Plex cost? It seems like a legal loophole if you can share them.IP: Logged |

It's not much. $4/monthly or $30/year. I'm on the free trial.Yeah, I was concerned about people coming after him, too, but like you said, it is kind of a loophole, because he owns them, and is just sharing them. He's not selling anything. IP: Logged |
