Your shadow: The traits that you possess but are uncomfortable or fearful in owning, will be met through others. Although actually we are meeting a part of ourselves. It can be recongnised when you react out of proportion to a given situation. It suddenly takes over and you're left wondering "where did that come from?"Liz Greene associates it with your saturn position. So this is especially true for me because my saturn is in the house of other people (7). My shadow is pisces. When people are very pisces-like (drug abusers, religious fanatics, pacifists, or people who identify with the roll martyr or victim, etc) it sometimes triggers my shadow. So I'd really like to hear someone elses experience with their shadow. What is your shadow? IP: Logged |

Awesome question GG I'm off to look at my chart now to figure it out. But b4 I go, the scenario you described sounds exactly like my bestie & housemate LOL.......Everything I say makes her defensive to the max! She takes everything as a criticism & gets defensive...it makes it hard to hold a simple conversation sometimes so I just leave the room and see what's happening here at LL.

I'm your shadow. I seem to p*ss a lot of people off on these forums, and I don't even try.

For me it's Cancer traits, especially Suns. I used to not know why, but every time they walk into my life, things get extremely heated very quickly, they want to fight me over some petty crap they think I did, one even threatened to have her sister come kick my ass once, and I still to this day don't know what I did. I find it interesting that you mention Saturn to determine your shadow - mine is in Libra. Libra isn't really my shadow, I have a stellium there and it's in my 6th and I do own those traits. The thing is, guess what my Saturn squares? Cancer. So does my Mercury and Pluto. And yes, they would be squaring my Cap too, but I own my Saturn...I'm less likely to own my Cancerian traits, I have Moon in 1st (should be Cancerian) opposing Uranus and Mars, both planets of which I own up to way more than my Moon (literally, to the detriment of my Moon - I can seem so emotionless that I come across as robotic). I've sewn my shadow to me I think it's my whiny self when I feel unloved and like the world hates me (Cancer). And there's a square to Mercury (2nd house ruler) from Saturn Cancer, so my shadow side can be obsessed with security in weakness, and also in general insecure when I express myself (because I feel whiny ). My shadow hates math. Oh wait, that's not only my shadow IP: Logged |

Robert Blashke gives following clues to find one`s shadow:1. planets in 4th, 8th and 12th house, that are in square or opposition 2. Square, quinkunx or oppositions from Sun or Moon to Pluto 3. retograde personal planet in square, opposition or quinkunx 4. T-squares, Yods or Grand Crosses with interceptions in the watery houses 5. unaspected Sun or Moon or personal planets (only aspects used: conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) 6. Predominance of bodies in water signs (especially with defiency in earth or fire) 7. South Node conjunctions to outer planets within 5° 8. Progressed lunations falling in the shadow degrees of the zodiac (9°-10° Virgo; 14° - 15° Sagittarius; 27°-28° Pisces) - don`t know whta that exactly means though. I also think, SAturn will often (but not always) give a hint towards the shadow. It definitely does in my chart.
I have Saturn retograde in Cancer in 8th house with a widish trine to Jupiter and an exact quinkunx to Moon. Moon herself has no other aspects than the quinkunx to Saturn (leaving out the asteroids of course) So my shadow seems to contain elements of the "Moon" and "Cancer" - unsurprisingly I have met many (female) people with Cancer placements. My mom has a Cancer ASC as well as four of my female friends; some of them even have a Moon in Cancer additionally! My Grandma has a Cancer Sun. However, in the case of the two friends, I`m still very close to, they also have "easier" connections to my chart. The one friend has her Sun in Aquarius closely conjunct my Moon; the other friend has Moon in Aries exactly sextile my Moon. That definitely helps. IP: Logged |

The author also sais something about synastry and composite activating the shadow. He doesn`t think the shadow to be "evil" or "bad", but very exhausting. And someone who activates our shadow is very able to lead us into our deepest core and unknown depth, into a part of ourselves we don`t know or maybe shy away from. That might either lead to cruciating pain, maybe even aversion or if we go with it, it could also lead to soulful intimacy and a very deep bond. Ways of shadow activation in synastry:
1. Synastric (or composite) T-squares, Yod`s or Grand Crosses involving Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars. - the planets that aspect Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars in that configuration give a hint to what the trigger of the shadow is: Saturn: intimacy fears, armoring, inhibition Chiron: shame, humiliation, sexual trauma (?), forgiveness issues Uranus: commitment fears, emotional disconnection Neptune: disillusionment, fantasy, addiction, romantic perfection issues Pluto: power, control, anger, manipulation or broken trust issues
Also, the 8th categories to find a shadow in natal can be applied to shadow activation in synastry or composite. Example: a Pluto in 4th house in the houses overlay squaring a personal planet could definitely trigger shadow issues IP: Logged |

My shadow is Scorpio and I can be overly cruel if I'm betrayed. I get along with Scorpios better than any other sign; we just "get" each other.IP: Logged |

One of my good friends has her Sun right on my Descendant. Conjunct exactly. In fact, I checked out the personality chart for my Descendant and she has the exact same placements. When I first met her, I very strongly disliked her. We would argue about things all the time. Strangely, we became friends.. It was a bizarre process that I don't quite remember. But we are still good friends 'till this day. Sometimes she makes me uncomfortable, but not as much as she used to. Also, there is this one girl I know who has her Mars in my 7th. I find that she irritates me very often, although others find her a better person than I would like to think. It's also difficult to interact with her. We can't even be in close proximity. I usually have to back away to give myself some space. Twice, she's gotten into my personal space and I found myself moving away almost involuntarily. FistofLegend, it's a puzzle to me as to why you rattle so many people. (I'm thinking that it's because most of the time you're the one who grounds everyone, which is a quality I like in a person.) You make me smile. EDIT: My Saturn is in Aquarius, as is my Descendant, so anyone with placements in the middle or middle/late degrees of Aquarius will touch either of those. IP: Logged |

Oh wow, this makes so much sense now!My shadow is Scorpio; Saturn in Scorpio in the 4th house, and my mother and I are are nearly enemies -- of a deep, psychological sort though. Regardless of what we do/say to eachother, there's always an uneasy tension between us. And it doesn't help that she is a Taurus sun (and my complete opposite). And being that Saturn is usually associated with males (and in this case, the father figure).. I haven't talked to my father in nearly half a year. His ascendant is Scorpio too! My shadow definitely has lots to do with my family (as signified by the 4th house).. I've always wondered why I always feel such tension!! When I was younger, I used to tell my parents that they adopted me and I really came from *pointing to the sky* the stars! Needless to say, they didn't take well to that statement.. but I still stand firm on it.. =) THANKS for writing about shadows!! Very interesting. IP: Logged |

My Saturn is Capricorn in the 12th house. I guess my "shadow" is kind of hidden... and most people think I'm nice, but I have this "secret" cold, uncaring side to me. I do recognize it, though, and try to keep myself all soft and sensitive, which isn't hard to do with my sun and moon in Cancer. Ha. It is really sneaky, though... that shadow.IP: Logged |
