Someone you have shared a past life with and have unfinished karma.

A soul mate is a mate at a soul level, recognizing you and you them, helping you and them you. Releasing you and you them.

They are transient l believe. They are not true love, life-long partners.

There are different kinds of soulmate. NOt every soulmate is a romantic one.
And yes, those soulmate-relationships can be life-long.
Not every is, though.

A soulmate is someone you've been with in past lives. The word soulmate does not indicate whether the relationship is familial, romantic or a friendship - it can be any of the three. The more lives you've had, the more soulmates you have. Most of the really important people in our lives are soulmates. You can usually tell who they are - the ones you felt an instant kinship or attraction or even repulsion toward when you first met.

I guess if it takes you long enough to learn the lesson then it can be life long

yes some lessons can take a lifetime! but some soulmates can stick around for the good karma after the nasty stuff has been worked through!

otherwise families would not contain soulmates, which i am sure they do...

i tend to believe all significant relationships are soulmates, ie the ones that can push your buttons but still stay close...

after all if you go back far enough we are/were all one right??

lara - what would you call a true love life long partner if not a soulmate? do you think life long partners just don't learn thier lessons quickly? not sure if i am on board with that. that reasoning takes away the dignity and bond that a 50 year marraige deserves.

I do believe there are many soulmates, some friend, family, lovers. however I do not believe they come along every other day. Nor do i believe life lessons are learned in a day or two of reflection...then enter the next soulmate into the picture instantly.

I do believe accelerated karma and lessons are possible when open and receptive to learning our lessons, however, i think and believe that the paths to enlightenment and enrichment are many and not everyone gets there on the same path, so what is good for one, is not good for another. that is why i encourage my kids and others to find thier path and am very careful to not push what i believe is true onto others as that may not be thier path to enlightenment, and might actually be detrimental to thier spiritual awakening, whatever path they take to get there. one of the main reasons i don't believe in organized religion as the answer, nor new age philoshophies alone. I take what makes sense to me and create my own path and never judge another on thier path or consider myself more knowledgeable or less than anyone. my path is mine alone.

more than one soulmate? yes.

a soulmate is specail and not everyone that is in our path that we learn from would i consider a soul mate, some are teachers some are students, some are justin ourlife for a season or learning experience, not a SOULMATE.

if a soulmate is not special why bother caring about it? the soulmate connection.

if it is common and everyone we meet is a soulmate, who cares then? puton a sexy dress and go meet the next soulmate. it is more than that. if it isn't specail than i truly don't care, it wouldnt matter, you see?

My personal belief is it is a person (like Peri said) that you have an unusually strong connection with. Not a fly by night classic romantic connection, but a connection which you both recognize instantly; and while the relationship may or may not last, the connection never diminishes.

I have felt that 3 times. I to believe we have more than one soulmate. I have felt such a connection 3 times in my life so far. I'm not sure of the past life stuff but that is only because I never really delved into it so I'm open minded about it. I'm just saying at this point with no knowledge on the subject other than basic common knowledge, I can neither confirm nor deny that dynamic and its impact on soulmates.

Soulmtes are ppl that teach you a significant lesson and vise versa. YOu can tell when you meet a soulmate bc is on a soul level and its unlike any other relationship. The soulmate relationships are felt deep to the soul. And I do believe that some soulmates are meant for love and meant to spent their lives together. Thats true love. I agree with what SunShine said those couples that spend 35,45,50 years together are true love soulmates..

Those couples that finishes each others sentences and when they hug hearts beat at the same time. They can' be with out each other bc its to painful. Soulmates can b on several different levels..

Excellent points by everyone.
My view of True Love SoulMates:
Those willing to give themselves totally and unconditionally to one another.

If l apply IQ's rules and l use my own feeling then l have experienced lots of soul mates so far.

From my grandfather to my father to numerous ex boyfriends and 1 husband, the fathers of my children, friends, elders, etc etc.

i am just not convinced anymore that the 50 yr old marriage is necessarily soul mates. I think those lifelong marriages are twin souls.

More and more l believe that soul mates enter our lives for one reason only - lessons from a past life existence. I have experienced first hand how the lesson is learnt and the relationship literally dies overnight.

When l look at swans l see twin souls. They do everything together. The male never leaves the female and they are the reflection of each other. They come in love and they don't part till death.

Maybe i'm wrong... ask IQ!

Its all about what you believe in, every body does not believe the same thing..I don't believe in twin souls, twin flames and all that..I guess its really one's own perception understanding of what a soulmate is to them. Some ppl dn't even believe in past life relationships or soulmates..So you got alot of different views on this..

sunshine i didn't mean to say that everyone is a soulmate in the sense we tend to mean it. we are all connected so in one sense, yes we are all soulmates; however i DO believe that all our SIGNIFICANT relationships are soulmates. these are the people we learn from/have karma with.

the lifelong marriages...well, some are lifelong more because of inertia than the desire to be with that person. but many ARE soulmates/twins and i think some people DO take 40 years to learn the lesson! a friend of mine has been married for 25 years now to someone she has been threatening to leave for at least half that time "when the kids are grown" "when his health is better" and so on...but though they rub up against each other and SEEM to be at odds they are as attached as if by glue. and since i have known them i have seen the dynamic changing in their relationship. they ARE learning from each other though even now the lessons are not easy...

I don't have a definition but soulmates to me ARE sexual because your soul MATES. Members of the soul family have instant connection but soul MATES love each other as IQ said unconditionally, that to me means physically, sexually, emotionally, mentally, completely.
In meeting for the first time eyes lock in recognition and understanding (not just dilated as in attraction)
Intimacy is immediate
time and space disintergrates into the background and communication is sped up to silence in a telepathic drone.

I'm being honest. Soulmates are fairytales.

Deleted original post due to we are divorcing.
I was partially wrong about soul mates.
My apologies folks.
It does not mean it is the perfect relationship.
Seems being just soul mates are not enough.
Seems being twin flames too is necessary.
And both must be whole and love themselves first.
There is no "completion of two halves.
Both must be whole.
