I don't think it matters what people believe in, so long as they believe in something.

My brother (Asc conjunct Mars & Saturn in 1st house Virgo, 5th house Capricorn Moon, Venus retrograde in 10th house Gemini) is one of the most scientific, un-mystical, hardcore atheists I've ever met. I was talking to him about love, and how sad it made me that he didn't believe that love was a magical/mysterious feeling. He said, "But when I meet someone I really like, they fill my body with electrical impulses and change my body's reaction to itself, and I think that's even more amazing than thinking it's some unnameable magic." Which isn't me at ALL, but is still a pretty beautiful way of looking at it.

We were raised in a strict, Irish-Catholic environment. Our grandmother was almost a nun, but left her convent school to marry our grandfather. Our mother (8th house Aquarius Moon!) didn't force religion on us the way her mother did on her, but the church was still a huge part of our lives growing up. Neither of us subscribe to any organized religion now as adults, although I tend to be more spiritual than my brother.

I've been really interested in Judaism lately, particularly the Kabbalah.

aerialcircus, as you say, to see love in electrical impulses is indeed a form of magic.

Hey there everyone;

I was baptized catholic and went to catholic school for 7 years.
I said "when I grow up, I'm gonna change religion!"
Its kinda funny though, because even though I have at times called myself a Buddhist, or a Wiccan, I keep feeling the pull of Catholicism.
I don't go to church now because I have to, but sometimes I go when I want to.
There is something about the ritual, the flow of mass, the beauty of the church that moves me so much, I cry whenever I go there. But its a good cry.
Before they took to locking the doors, I would go into the church and sit in the pews by myself for hours and just think. Sometimes I would cry, or write, but it was always a retreat for me.
So maybe the seeds that are sown in some people by force, grow into what they are, in spite of themselves?
But what do I know????

GypseeWind,

This is what i'm talking about. The PULL. The inexplicable attachment to these religions and rituals EVEN THOUGH i don't believe in them. I still feel at home in their "auras" i suppose.

... going back to the reincarnation idea, i think maybe it would help to take my lineage into consideration.

I am definitely English. The rest of my heritage is under investigation currently (i'm researching my genealogy), but i'm also believed to have German and French blood in me.

Now, obviously Catholocism is, and was, a prominent religion to these cultures. Where the mythology, paganism, astrology, and Wiccan interest comes from i am unsure...

What do you guys descend from?

D for Defiant,

quote:
Thank you, Meta_4- I consider that a compliment.

You're Welcome. It was meant as one. Whenever i was looking over your chart placements my eyes were popping out! I'm more of a visual person though, so would you be opposed to posting your chart?

quote:
Interesting 9th house or Sagittarius Sun influences- according to Linda, these natives are either intensely religious, spiritually-inclined, or complete atheists.

Wow, this is really interesting. Perhaps this is where my dihlemma comes from. My 9th house-ness doesn't know what to do with me! Thanks for telling me that.

My 9th house's cusp is Aries (late degrees). I have Taurus Mars in the 9th house oppose Scorpio Pluto in the 3rd house, both square to Aquarius Jupiter in the 6th house. Also, Taurus NN in the 9th house.

I was a Catholic coz of my family when I was young, but then I stopped being religious as I grew up.

Although maybe I have a spiritual side in myself (interested in these matters), I don't have any strong, ultimate beliefs about these matters, and I'm open to both possibilities that God exists or not, and also if there's really afterlife or not.
But I believe that it's up to ourselves to find our own meaning of life (and how we give meaning to our life), and that what's important is living our lives fully and being truth to ourselves.

Libra on my 9th, with Venus in Leo.

My beliefs are taken from all religions and then some added of my own. Some things just dont get by my system of beliefs.

I get told by many that if you repent after doing wrong, you will go to heaven. So all these bad people who do wrong things are fine, they can do whatever they want, and as long as they repent, all is forgiven.

NO!

Anyone else see something wrong with that?

People who do wrong should be punished. By the law. The law has the final say on this earth. If by some reason a person gets away with doing wrong, I find it hard to believe that wrong will not be made right. That is why I believe in some kind of afterlife/heaven/hell. I guess re-incarnation is my more ideal outcome. More lives means that someone who has done good or bad, will be rewarded/punished accordingly. Otherwise, people would just go around, doing whatever they please and not face the consequences.

I find it a little hard to understand though, as we are on this earth and given no instructions on how to go about things or what happens.

Unless you consider the bible, which is one of my favourite books. Dont read it often though.

3rd ruler is Aries, with Mars conjunct Uranus. The bible is Aquarius as its the 3rd (book) from the 9th (religion) - ruler therefore Uranus.

While I have belief in God the creator, Jesus the Man is harder to comprehend as I was never there at the time. All we have to go on is a book called the bible, a very good one at that.

Somewhere between belief and agnostic, taking the scientific view (how dare I side with the scientists)

lol Coffee, I also don't think that "if you repent for your sins in the last second before you die, then you'll go to Heaven" really works in this way.

This is my personal view - I see "sin" as "something" that causes pain or similar/related kind of negativeness in yourself (sorry, I just don't know the right words to explain it >_< ). And I see redemption as finally solving that "something", and be freed from such.
Also, I don't really see "burning in Hell" or being tortured in some other way as the ultimate way to pay or redeem our sins - rather, the sin itself is what sort of punishes the person himself/herself.

But well, I do think that instead of teaching people through blind fear, morality/goodness should be teached in a way people should understand/think why something is right/wrong.

I believe in nature.
I believe religion is a way of living.

Unfortunately today it has become a way of fighting.

Meta;
I find alot of similarities in Wiccan customs and Catholic customs. The candles, the altars, the reciting and repeating of certain pre-written things for a specific outcome. Do you see what I mean?
I am Italian on my Dads side, and my Mother had a Native American Dad, and a French Mother. I never met them, (My moms people) apparently they were involved in some kind of cult and abandoned 3 children in a house all alone, without any notice to anyone. Last I heard my maternal Grandmother was a bartender in the French Quarter, but she was in trouble with the law and moved to another country. An Island, can't remember the name. She was married 8 times and never got a divorce once.
Try ancestry.com, I like it there, I was able to see some paperwork for free, and also clarify a name that was unknown on my dads side. I would like to subscribe when I get the money.

And YEAH I think that there are influences from our heritage.
I dont believe or adhere by all the teachings of the church, because some are not practical (birth control) and some do not ring true. I take what feels right and try my best to apply it to my life.
I've also been influenced and interested in the Seven Deadly Sins as D was talking about above, because you can really see the sense and logic to them. They dont seem like endless dogma.
I mean it makes sense to see that an excess of Lust or Gluttony (gluttony doesnt have to be just with food) will lead to trouble.
Everything in moderation works for me, including religion.

I come from a hectically, hardcore "Pagan" belief system, if I can call it that. I am African (Zulu tribe) and the only people who my people are similar to (with which you might be familiar) are the Greeks (ancient). Here's a link from google to read if you're interested in Anglo-African practices:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=gmail&rls=gm&q=Zulu%20Greek%20rituals

With that background, I was called by Christianity, weird because I didn't think much of Christianity all my life as many Africans see it in the same light as the religion of the "oppressors" amongst other reasons. As I am getting to know Christianity, I am seeing the beauty of it as well as the things which have been perverted by humans. I am glad to have found Christianity though, but it still makes me wonder how it happened.

My mother is Christian, but she never imposed it on us (her children).

I am not religious. I depend a lot upon the spirit of discernment/the Universe/God to place me in situations that are fruitful for my evolution and benefit. Therefore, I do not go to gather with anyone religiously because instead of going to church every Sunday for example, I am called to worship more often than that. Besides, some of these "holy" places are infected with "unholy" energies, and going to such places would not serve me or my purpose.

I am deeply spiritual and I treat most places as holy, making a church not nearly as necessary to go to because in most cases, one can bring the church to themselves. I also need to mention that my knowledge and experience of other religions made me understand Christianity better actually.

Anyway...

Here is some of my astro info. if it will give you further understanding...

Asc Scorpio cnj Jupiter ( I have many other Scorpio stuff too)
Sun Virgo trine Chiron
Moon Cancer cnj MC

12th House Ruler Mercury (Virgo 12th House) and the 12th is tenanted by Libra Mercury, Libra Saturn, Libra Pluto, Scorpio Pallas.

nNeptune in 2nd(self-worth) is sextile nSaturn and nPluto.

my Neptune ruled house, the 6th, is empty.

Good Luck on your search

Unmoved.

D for Defiant...

It's weird that you mentioned the 7 deadly sins because I refer to them a lot too.

Hey meta - sorry I didn't see your thread earlier!! I'm venturing back in Astro 2 during my holiday. It's nice to be surfing around these threads again!!

My Grandmother was Methodist. I went to Sunday School until my Mum married my adoptive Dad. Mum became as athiest as Dad, which made me feel uncomfortable.

I was baptised as a young adult in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and "NO", Donny and Marie are not my favourite singers.

These days, I feel more like a Zen Monk of sorts......

Sun/Isis/Pandora/Sphinx in Leo 5th house
Moon in Sag 9th house
Asc in Aries
Venus in Vrigo 5th house
Mars in Libra 7th house
Jupiter in Gemini in 3rd house
Uranus in Virgo 5th house
Saturn in Pisces 11th house
Pluto in Virgo 5th house
North Node 10* in Gemini 3rd house
South Node 10* in Sag 9th house
Chiron/Eros/Ceres in 12th house

Nope Meta, no strong pull towards any one religion. I've become much more universal in my beliefs.
