Jane's definition of synastry: quote: A helpful way to think about synastry is that we feel the parts of ourselves that the other person contacts. The other person can only pull out of us what they touch. If they don't touch it, we don't feel that part of ourselves when with them. (Well, we may feel it in the sense that we feel the lack of contact. For example, if you don't aspect my Moon at all, I will feel like my emotional nature isn't "for" you.)
Hi Jane That's really a great interpretation of synastry and I thought other knowflakes & astro-newbies should see it as well. I'm posting this thread so people discuss it and give examples from their own lives.. I'm curious whether others find it as accurate - as I did. I’d also like to add something I noticed. At times in my life, I contact people or conversely, avoid people - based on the vibe that our synastry generates. For example - if a person contacts several things in my chart and not my Moon.. and I am in a "fun" and "playful" mood.. rather than an "emotional" or depressive (cap moon) mood lol.. I would happily go out with this person, or have a chat to them etc... However, if I was having a horrible day and particular things happened which affected me emotionally, I would seek OUT those friends who contact my Moon. Because I simply feel more understanding on that level. I noticed that I do this very regularly. Sometimes I like pretending certain planets are not there. It is exactly as you put it: "We don't feel that part of ourselves when with them". When I am in the company of particular friends of mine I lose touch with certain parts of my chart.. My extra Gemini-Aries friend doesn't even know my Capricorn side exists.. which is FINE - because sometimes I want to switch off and just hang out with her - and send my Moon on holiday for a while). Other people only see my more *serious* Capricornian side.. and then there are those few who seem to get the whole of me. I'm not sure if that makes sense ^ have you ever noticed something similar? I like this. Makes sense. It also explains why some people just bring out (or see) our best, or worst. It also depends on how we play out our own natal chart.IP: Logged |

Damn it, Jane, if you read this: Are you rummaging in my mind and pulling things out of there? Or are we in truth mind-twins? Again, I can nothing but agree agree agree. I deeply apologize. IP: Logged |

Hmmm I'm still trying to work out the contacts with my ascendant. With regards to the Moon, I find that contacts bring out the child in me, both positive and negative. Like with trines etc. I am relaxed, at my best with the person and especially when my Moon trines or conjuncts the other's Mercury, we are so on each other's wavelength and can find everything funny! Without fail Moon aspecting Jupiter always brings benevolence, I can trust this person to think of my feelings with warmth and respect, knowing that they will never hurt me intentionally.I feel Moon contacts more intensely, maybe it's because it's in my 4th house. Saturn contacts are like a tug! I don't like too many Neptune contacts as I easily get confused. What are your experiences of when planets contact your ascendant? IP: Logged |

Agh! *slumps down in chair*Thanks, vapor, but I'm so confuseded. I don't think my description was any great revelation. Isn't that what we all think? How else could synastry work? I'm serious, someone please explain to me an alternative. I'm glad you started this topic though. Primarily because it glorifies me. (Though undeserved, I'll take what I can get.) And also because I've been thinking about synastry and would like to ramble! Alright. So the whole soul mate stuff. I'm thinking our union with someone is based on our levels of consciousness being in line with each others, not simply our planets being in line. That level of consciousness impacts how people use their natals, and therefore their synastry. Moon in Capricorn, for example , can run the gamut from the cold, isolated egoist, to the devoted, serious lover. Although there's an essence to every placement, the way they come alive depends on the level on which the soul is living. So to have a soul mate, you can't just have matching aspects. That's just a chart mate. You may be living on entirely different levels. If so, then you've met someone who may feel like the real deal but isn't because you're not joined at that deepest level of consciousness. That level is what breathes life into the material (astro chart) we're born with. From there, a bond is true and unbreakable. Relationships can expand our consciousness. We can grow and become better people through relationships. So in that way we can become one another's soul mate through work. IP: Logged |

How about we settle for some hanky-spanky? Let's feed our hunger for combat physically, since mentally we can't help but moan, "yes, yes, yes!" Or maybe that's just me. There, maybe you can disagree with that!IP: Logged |

Hanky-Spanky? Poor Spanky, what will she think of your suggestion? I strongly DISAGREE with that! There I said it.Physical combat - careful what you are suggesting. I have two brothers and one elder sisteraunt, who behaved like a boy during childhood. There are pics of our bruises to prove that. IP: Logged |

Hi Quinnie - quote: What are your experiences of when planets contact your ascendant?
I think of it like this. The Asc is where we step into relationship with another. It's the self we bring forth. (The DSC, on the other hand, is the other that we step towards.) So when somebody contacts my ASC, it affects how I experience myself with them. With Eros on it, I feel myself eroticized. In comparison, if Eros were on my DSC, I would experience the other person erotically. (I would also experience the other person as that if my own Eros were cnj their ASC.) IP: Logged |

Pff. I know no fear. My older sister was a biter. She'd break the skin and everything. I probably have rabies. You DO NOT want to mess with this. ("sisteraunt" - Is that like a juggernaut family member?) Does my Mars aspect you? It's at 7º Virgo. Where upon you will I be directing my kick-ass? IP: Logged |

hehe It IS a revelation! lol Ok - usually people just think of it as "planets" interacting. Your particular observations are not mentioned. And they were very good observations lol @ you & DD. I did bite someone once, as a child. I thought I was helping him because I'd heard that's what people do in a case of snake-bite.. to suck out the venom. He lied to the other kids in the class (including myself) and told us he had just been bitten by a snake - we were on camp IP: Logged |
