The Moon always fascinates me. Where it is in the chart, and what sign. I feel that if you understand someone's Moon, you understand them. That you really get them, that it's the key.

So I wanted to use this thread to gather some of the best articles about the Moon you have read. Unfortunately I didn't write down where I found this one. I only remember that it was one of those websites that was protected, so you couldn't copy and paste. I had to write it all down in one of my notebooks.

The Moon

The Moon represents the feminine side of the psyche, the anima. It is closely associated with the emotionally and instinctive responsive personality, with the psychosomatic basis of one’s being, and with the early mother-child relationship. The Moon symbolizes, in a sense, the womb or matrix of one’s being. While the Sun reflects one’s sense of autonomous conscious selfhood, one’s personal identity and will, and is the more active and self-directing nature, the Moon represents more one’s underlying psychological character - those parts of oneself that are more hidden to one’s conscious ego - and is more receptive and spontaneously reactive or responsive in nature. In particular, the Moon corresponds to one’s feelings and those pervasive, but largely unconscious psychological patterns that were established deep in one’s past. It is not that the Moon simply is the unconscious; rather it is archetypally associated with what the modern self tends to be unconscious of; the Psyche’s emotional, physical, imaginable, familial and ancestral ground or matrix.

The Moon corresponds to how one feels about oneself, even before one thinks about oneself, as well as how one tends to relate spontaneously to others and to life’s various situations. The lunar part of the psyche, associated with one’s moods and feelings, tends to be changeable and fluctuating in character, though on another level, it’s deeply imprinted patterns are very enduring.

The Moon concerns one’s immediate psychosomatic mode of response to life that begins in one’s earliest years, that is partly a matter of inheritance, and partly forged in one’s interactions with the world, especially one’s family, and one’s early home environment. It governs one sense of belonging (or not), how one tends to nurture and be nurtured, and is associated with both the maternal instinct and the needs and instincts of infancy and childhood.

In later life, the Moon reflects the nature of all one’s intimate relationships, familial and otherwise, as well as one’s home life. In mythic terms, the Moon is associated with certain areas of the Great Mother goddess, and is yin in nature.

Again, with the Sun, if any major aspect is formed between the Moon and another planet in one’s birth chart, this second planetary archetype will tend to be especially significant in one’s life. But in this case, that second archetype will tend to channel itself through those parts of one’s life governed by the Moon, one’s emotions and moods, one’s infancy and childhood, one’s mother and early familial environment, one’s intimate relationships and domestic life and so forth. Also, in both women and men’s charts, the Moon tends to reflect significant female figures in a person’s life.

Niiiiiiice! If I find any articles, I'll be sure to post them in this thread. I'm really big on Moon contacts in synastry, especially Moon conjunct Moon. They say you are your Moon in a romantic relationship.

I am Moon in Scorpio. It's a curse. The feelings are too intense. I could not take it any longer, so for now I shut down. I really hope to stay that way for as long as I can.

starkiss you and I are sides of the same coin. My moon is in Taurus, so I can relate to that shut down feeling, of course part of that could be due to my venus in capricorn.

I used to have so many articles saved....oh wait, they're on the downstairs computer. Anyways, here's something from scribd.com

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2204097/Moon-Sign-House-Aspect

I have a Virgo Moon conjunct all three 3 Liliths in the 8th and the only way I can describe it is as Scorpio Moon's Nasty Hermit Cousin. Well maybe Nasty is a strong word....but I did love how 'Love on a Rotten Day' described it as the Mother-In-Law moon....that just made my day..hahahaha.

I find so much affinity with Scorpio Mooners though that we might as well be cousins...LMAO.

Nice link Benedict Moon.
It totally fits me, that Scorpio-moon.
Yeah, it definitely feels like a curse, as star says.

Much (if not all) of the problems in my romantic intimate relationship(s) come from (unconscious) deep fears which cause jealousy, a demanding, obsessive and manipulative approach, the attitude of distrust and being attuned to the possibility of others having evil motives and ofcourse.. that huge emotional bursts.

I try to be aware of these fears, in fact I do not have much choice than to become aware of them (if i do not want to stay alone a whole life).
I have a tendency to extremely force the issue when it comes to those fears;
- losing someone (sudden rejection etc)
- taking advantage of me
- lack of REAL understanding (for who I am, what I'm going through)

Recently I became more aware/conscious of the fact that;
- FEARS are involved (although my brain gives other reasons to attack/fight/break-up)
- FEARS subjectively don't have the power to break up a relationship (in more sober condition I DIE when thinking of losing the other)

So, why am I making this so hard for myself?

I have an 8th house Moon and I feel that the Scorpio description fits me just as much as the Virgo one for these same reasons. I have alot of 'sabatoging' behaviors that come out (especially in romance/relationships) because I have these feelings. The Analytical factor of the Virgo sign placement only makes it worse. And to be honest, I think what the 8th house placement does to the Virgo qualities is INTENSIFY them. Not always pretty.

It must be why I find so much affinity with Scorpio Mooners as much as I do with Virgo Mooners. In fact, I don't think I know of a scorpio moon who has ever let me down.

I have a friend with moon in leo in the 3rd.
He, like me, has a saturn aspect to it.. My moon is in sagittarius in the 7th.. I noticed that when I'm very comfortable, like him, we just talk about many different subjects and the majority of the conversation is opinions and things we think are funny. Water and earth signs are more personal and introverted with their opinions and views, I've noticed.. But we just casually talk about them, like the heartless moon in air/fire signs that we are. lol

I like my moon, there's really nothing bad about it except the indecisiveness at times.

If I wasn't a libra moon, I'd want to be a Leo, a Sag or a Taurus moon.

Leo cos they're so bouncy lol, Sag cos they're so upbeat and active, Taurus cos they're so grounded, secure and warm <3.

I LOVE that scribd article. Very informative. I was already familiar with it and I think I've read most of it, at least the section discussing the Moon in sign placements.

But, yeah, the Moon has always fascinated me, too. I've found I'm much more interested in Moon signs than Sun signs. I guess because Moon signs give you a richer opportunity to analyze someone than a Sun sign. Maybe it's because I have an angular Scorpio Moon, which makes me a Lunar type of person. I'm very in tune with Moon energy and I usually can guess someone's Moon sign easier than their Sun sign.

As a fellow Scorpio Moon, I should remind you guys that it is NOT a curse. It only feels that way when we approach it with that attitude. There is such power and strength that comes with this placement, which is why if you don't have self-acceptance your Scorpio Moon can be your own worst enemy. You just have to learn to accept this part of yourself. Don't judge yourself for being "too intense", "too emotional", "too radical", whatever.

However, I have also learned that it DOES help to know when to apply some moderation. Having more of a balanced outlook, as the black-or-white thinking is just an automatic response for us, makes life much easier. It's hard for me to be balanced in my opinions and my feelings because I'm so passionate. But, I have stopped thinking in such catastrophic terms (like a failure is the end of the world or like the rug will be pulled from underneath me) and learned to not take things so personally. It just takes a lot of conscious effort.

Scorpio Moon can be a beautiful placement and not worth its very negative reputation. Like all the Moon signs, it has its positive side and its dark side. There just needs to be a balance for any kind of self-acceptance to be achieved.

Completely off topic: the89freespirit, I really like your blog!

And somewhat on topic, does Scorpio moon always point to a difficult relationship with the mother? I have seen this times and times again in real life. Thanks!

Aw, thanks guys!

And yeah, Scorpio Moon will have a complex relationship with Mom, often love/hate. It's not always the case, but it can be a rather sick and unhealthy relationship in most cases. There's probably a severe lack of boundaries and the mother can be very manipulative and domineering. However, there's still a lot of love there. My relationship with my mother was very unhealthy and I've gotten a lot of distance. But, I still do love her deeply, in spite of it all. I also found myself tending to her emotional needs way more than mine, even as a child, which is why I'm such an automatic caregiver now (my Moon is exactly on the Midheaven though, so that could also be it). I've had to learn to erect some boundaries in that regard, not just with her but everyone.

Our moon respresents our need for nurturing, it rules the first five years of life. the sign moon is in modifies the way it expresses, where in the chart shows where we seek nurturance and give it back.

How moon is aspected show how it functions.

I feel Moon is overlooked as symbol of feminine archetype,all the power of the woman and seduction have been transferred to Venus,and it shouldn't be that way.

@aquaguy91,
I really get what you're saying. My Leo side is strong and powerfully expresses itself in certain situations. But, I feel my Scorpio energy on a deeper level. I am very passionate, very sexual, love mysteries and secrets, always digging deep and transforming myself.

I love Taurus Moons, by the way! It's one of those placements that I am immediately attracted to, platonically or romantically, in spite of our numerous differences.

@VenusDiSiruis,
I don't know if I would agree that it's overlooked as the feminine archetype. I read that all the time in regards to the Moon. But, the Moon and Venus are two different sides of our culture's expectations of femininity.

Venus is about attractiveness. Venus is beautiful, Venus loves to shop and pamper herself and wear diamond rings. Venus loves relationships, flirting and gaining positive attention from the sex of her choosing.

And the Moon, of course, is the emotional, irrational side of the female archetype. I think feminine power can be found in both. Venus is expressed more socially, I think, while the Moon is expressed more in the intimate sphere.
