I guess I should give a bit more here. I don't believe in astrology like it would be a religion. To me astrology is more like a branch of psychology. It is a system that helps you learn archetypes of personalities, and how you fit into those archetypes. When I've encountered people who are skeptical, and I explain it in that way, they usually are accepting, and 9 times out of 10 they want to know more! LOLI'm a converter, baby! IP: Logged |

quote: If a person thinks astrology is cuckoo.. but still reaches a certain level of psychological understanding in their own way (whether it is through scientifically recognized methods or through esoteric methods) - then that's great! This understanding can help them interpret the world around them and their own lives.
That's a very good way of looking at it. There are many paths to enlightenment, yah? quote: Sometimes I ignore and I can't be bothered.. But with certain people - I feel like it's worth making an effort to quench their irrational fears.
Dynamitee, yeah... the effort part is difficult, because I risk myself in doing so. It's surprising how many people attach "all of you" to what you might believe about one issue. IP: Logged |

I say, "Well, you know how the moon pulls the tides... the other planets exert a force on the earth as well. Because our bodies are like what? 98% water or something like that... the moon pulls on us/exerts a force on us too. That's why things are so crazy at full moon. "Looney" came from "lunar" and you know how the hospitals and police are busiest during full moons... " then I trail off to let them ponder and usually someone will ask what it means to be a whatever sun sign they are and I tell them some positive things that they immediately recognize as true, then throw in a couple of the lower vibrational characteristics and explain that all signs have both, then trail off again and tell them a little about one of their friends (sun sign description) that they know well because people recognize things in others more quickly than the recognize it in themselves. Then I say, but that's just the sun, allllll the planets affect us and in different ways... like (insert planet here) rules our (insert behavior here) and I change what I say depending on the person I'm dealing with. For guys that are skeptical I would say that: Mars rules the sex drive and aggressive nature, ya know like Mars God of War.. astrology is about archetypical energies... and everyone's Mars in in a different place and so is each of the other planets... which is why every person is so complicated and every Libra isn't exactly alike. It's all very complicated. If they are still listening I mention a thing or two about aspects by explaining... "when two people get together and interact their energies hit each other and react or combine that's why some people get along better than others, some energies mesh better than others..." then I'll explain trine and earth, air, fire, water and add in some planet info and sign info mixed in on the way, where appropriate, and then kind of gasp for breath and say again that it's very complicated. Then they usually say, "wow... blah blah blah... interesting" and they ask some questions or they kind of fade off not completely convinced but much more open to other tidbits I throw out from time to time.

Depending on who I'm speaking to I say...If the Moon can pull the oceans and the Sun can pull the planets, then you can safely assume it's impacting on a human being who is at least 50% water.... Or If we all come from the same big bang, and we came from dust in the first place how arrogant is it to completely rule out that in some way the planets are connected to us at a deeper psychological level... Or It's not money that makes the world go round Or In the words of Sir Isaac Newton.... I have studied these things, you have not That could follow a few physics laws like ""Every object persists in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it." or Force is equal to the change in momentum (mv) per change in time. For a constant mass, force equal mass time acceleration [F = ma]." Astrology is a mathematical map of this force.... Or In the words of Einstein "For every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action."...Therefore as above, so below. Or if you are really struggling I just say you might need some counselling to look into why you are so hardened against other peoples' belief's... I am not trying to convert you, just expressing a personal belief so chillax! IP: Logged |

It depends. I noticed that most of the people who don't believe aren't very informed. The ones I meet tell me that they don't believe in astrology because the horoscope they read in the papers is never accurate. LOL! That's a an association that leads to many misinterpretations. I just try to explain that astrology is much more precise and not limited to that kind of horoscope. Most of them seem rather skeptical. They usually ask for a chart interpretation and when they see it's almost fully accurate, they don't know how to react.I also met some very annoying snobs who laughed when I told them I consider astrology a science. What amazes me though is that they seem to have very fixed opinions about something they haven't even researched. Generally though, I don't try to convince them if their opinions are rigid. I just don't see the point. Astrology is kind of like religion when it comes to arguing whether it's accurate or not. Debating is pointless. IP: Logged |
