My dad was a major alcoholic and had an addiction problem that destroyed our relationship, unfortunately for him throughout most of my childhood like from 3-13 booze came first over me. I've never been able to forgive him for it totally...I decided to end contact with him. It shows through, as we've said here, problems with Neptune.

Him -

Mars in Aqua 29th degree square Neptune
Venus tightly conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius
Neptune in the 4th - inherited addictions, his dad was a bipolar alcoholic/addict too, so is his one brother

Me -

4th house in 29th degree Pisces -->
Mars in 29 Cancer opposite Neptune, ruler of my 4th
Neptune conjunct Uranus, instability with my dad's behaviors

ALSO - my own personal issues with substance problems can be explained through these aspects too. I also have Sun quindecile - almost opposition - my Neptune. I've always been very tempted to drink alcohol to numb my feelings. But the Mars-Neptune opp. is thankfully wide. And I always feel too guilty to indulge in those feelings of wanting to escape. Constructively I've turned it around into wanting to escape an average life so I'm working hard to have a great artistic career. [Sun in the 10th in Libra]

One last note - I've noticed that with many 12th house Suns who have stress aspects to Neptune, to the Moon or to Pluto have control and addiction issues. My recent ex had all this... and he was a major alcoholic and a very weird person in the end.

Yes, many of the most spiritually oriented people I know have struggled with addiction. These are sun dancers, pipe carriers, indigenous elders, sweat lodge keepers... Some have been sober 20 years, some less, some even more... it's so interesting to see that the energy going towards masking pain, all their confusion and desperation, the addiction... is now channeled into these other endeavors... like that Neptune energy really needs to be ENGAGED but it's so nebulous that until they could give it form through spiritual practise and ceremony it sent them down confusing paths which ultimately strengthened them, taught great humility and how to help others on their journeys.

I have a very tight Moon Neptune conjunction and struggle with tobacco and screen use mostly... mild but significant forms of bondage... and one thing that opens the way out is chi gong, chanting... feeling really good through those practises...

My brother has suffered from a severe gambling addiction since he was about 17 years old.

I believe it's pretty under control at the moment, I just checked his chart and he has neptune in the 5th squared by mars in the 2nd and venus in the 9th. He also has neptune trine his moon, and the moon squaring chiron.

I have suffered from addictions to smoking, alcohol and have often indulged in recreational drugs.
I have mars square neptune and pisces rising.

I am at a point at 30 years old where I am being forced to transform and transcend to the higher levels of neptune, I have quit smoking and am hoping to quit drinking as well in the coming months. I fear that I will never be able to release myself from my love of alcohol due to my escapist tendencies. I also go to many events and I cannot fathom life without it in the social sphere. I hate what it does to me though, it controls me. I also have uranus opp chiron natally.

At the moment neptune is transiting my first house and squaring my sag stellium in the 10th, while I've got my saturn return going on. It's brutal.

While I don't think it's impossible for me to get addicted to something, I've found that it's very easy to keep myself away from alcohol and illegal drugs. I take a couple controlled substances for which I have prescriptions, but I also know that if I had to, I'd be able to taper off them pretty easily.

I am curious what could show the opposite situation? What would indicate someone that is able to stay away from alcohol and drugs? What would I look for in my chart to explain my capability to avoid addiction to alcohol and illegal drugs? I don't smoke either, but I'm not interested in even trying it once.

Outside of alcohol, drugs, and smoking, I assume my addiction potential lies in other areas. I know I have the potential to gamble a bit excessively, but since I'm good with money, I can make myself avoid doing it. My addictions are pretty tame, though I haven't been "addicted" to anything in a long time. I'm not sure what would explain this.

Is it constantly lying also an addiction?

Mercury & Mars (Cancer) opposite Neptune.

I'm afraid that he has sun in 12th house too as his Father was an alcoholic until his Father is unable to drink it anymore due to illness. He swore to me that he never touched alcohol because of it, but I found pictures where he drank it with his friends. He said he didn't know it was an alcohol, how could you not know the label and the taste? His lying is unbelievable, like, you want to cut the tongue to stop him lying.

With a moon in Sagittarius (Draconic moon is in Scorpio), he can easily fall into impulsive gambling and addicted to it for months. It's hard to stop him as he will whine, sulk, or constantly guilt tripping if you try to tell him the right things.

He is a deep smoker. One time I asked him if he is addicted to it and if he can stop smoking, he said he isn't addicted and can stop whenever he wants to. But, years with him, he can not stop smoking but still insisted he isn't addicted. Is it denial things part of Neptune?

He is always lying, like, everyday, even to the smallest thing, he chooses to lie than telling the whole truth. One excuses lead to another excuses, it's like living with a Devil, a vicious circle. He even thinks faster to create lies than telling the truth. The only time he can tell the truth is when trying to insult you, he will tell what's on his head about you in a bad way cutting your throat.

The worst part is, delusional. He can easily create the ugly part in his head just because he doesn't like what you did. He also can easily create the rossy-glasses part in his head just because strangers smile at him or people do a small kind things.

Neptune, if you are the Neptune people, how others can get you out of it or make you realize and stop in denial ?

I have a male friend with Neptune Conj Mars in Capricorn. His only "addiction" is goin to the gym and train. He hates alcohol and avoids it. Which is not the norm in Sweden .

I have Neptune Square Venus. I'm addicted to tv-series. I don't have a bf and feel very lonely, I numb my pain with tv-series, movies etc. My other addiction is, chocolate!
Other then that, no addictions. I'm religious and I don't drink alcohol and never have.

I get "addicted" to a person, or "obsessive" when I fall in "love". I think I get addicted to the rush of dopamine very easily. The dopamin is a brain chemical very alike Cocaine! Only that the brain produces it by itself naturally.

And I'm super sure I'm extra sensetive to this dopamin rush! Oh things I have done to just be able to talk and get a smile and have eye contact with my love interest, that rush, that warm feeling. Scientist describes it like this " Love hijacks the brain". With the help of natural addictive brain chemicals.

I also have Neptune Trine my Sun and Merc my chart ruler. I'm very plutonic and Pluto is all over the place in my chart. So no, strong neptune and Pluto does not always mean alcohol or other substance abuse! Luckily for me I don't even take paracetamol when I have fever! I hate chemical drugs!
