I could point you to annoying starlets of almost every sign. Paris is an Aqua, Spencer Pratt is a Leo, Kayne West is a Gemini, Kim Kardashian is a Libra, Britney Spears is a Sag, Kevin Federline is a Aries, Lindsay Lohan is a Cancer. You certainly can’t judge a sign by any of this disreputable, vapid starlets. They were just kids exposed to far too much fame and pressure at a young age and have developed into less than respectable human beings. You’d actually be hard pressed to find a Cancer sun sign female star. I did my best to find a list and I could only come up with a few people would actually know. I think most crabs girls tend to shy away from the spotlight. Respectable Cancer sun signs would be Princess Diana and Meryl Streep – both of whom are/were heavily involved in charity.

Additionally the woman that “wrote those things” about Cancers was an Aries – a sign that’s certainly not innately compatible with or sympathetic to Cancers. So I think she’s a fairly impartial entity.

I’m not sure if your post was intended as a flame, Stillatlarge, or if you’ve just been very hurt by a Cancer female in your past, but whatever the case, judging an entire sign so harshly is a bit excessive, and harsh considering the original poster is a Cancer. Every sign has it’s good and bad points. Each sign’s strengths are like a double edged swords – one side bring character strengths, but those strengths come with a corresponding weakness that can cut deep. Cancer women are incredibly emotionally giving, kind, gentle, and empathic people, with a built in innate need to nurture others. But expending so much of their emotional energy on others leaves them drained, and can make them prone to moodiness, and bleakness at times. If given too hard a lot in life I could see where they could surrender to that bleakness, and become bitter, dreamless people, but honestly most Cancer women have a bit too much hope to ever give in to despair so thoroughly. They are victimized by their own fears, which could lead them to be manipulative if poorly developed (manipulation is a way of controlling circumstances so you can’t be hurt), or conquering those fears could also give them an inner well spring of strength and sympathy for others if properly developed.

So wicked stepmother? I think not. ;-)

Benedict Moon...it saddens me that you were thinking of moving away from astrology bc of the whole cancer stereotype thing. I honestly don't really understand, though. So everything they say about us cancers is true...we are the most intuitive of the intuitive, the most feminine of the feminine, the mother of the zodiac. But the websites I've read zodiac sign info from have always said cancers are one of the most innocent and caring people around. I've never really ran into that many negative things about cancers on websites. It's pretty much only other people I've heard call us crabby, and okay, I know one crabby cancerian. Das it. So I assume these people are just people who have a grudge with a cancer in their lives. One person even said that cancers were crabby because Ashley tisdale, Selena gomez, Sofia vergara, Jessica simpson, and Courtney love all are crabby people. But they don't know them...maybe it's just the characters they play or just the way they come off....I know plenty of people who aren't actually the way they come off. And I know plenty of extremely sweet and nice cancerians.

One thing I've actually always read about from astrologers about us cancers is how NICE we are, actually.

The thing u have to realize BM, is that people will always complain about the bad traits of signs..just because when they have no problem with a sign they won't say anything. So if u listen to what ppl say ur doomed, bc people talk bad about every sign, if u've noticed. (they do it to vent)

Oh oh oh...Linda was the one who said that Cancer is the adolescent, and that they're here to teach that Love is devotion, and to learn that Love is freedom.

Is that not true? So true

Love is devotion--that's us!

Whoa! I go away for one day, and the thread goes nuts. Love your work.

(Just a side note, I welcome all comments and experiences - no offense whatsoever is taken for any controversial-seeming opinions, so go nuts).

Cancerian traits aren't really in question here, just more how they are talked in the book. Seeing as I'm new to Lindaland, as an introduction to myself, too, I should point I am actually quite aware of Cancerian nature, through astrology and life. I was interested in Linda's over the top archetypal take on Cancer, and astrology's take in general so far.

I read a lot of comparisons with Fire and Air signs in Love Signs. If I fall in love with an Aries or Sag, how in the flippin' hell do I give him THAT chapter to read? Hell, I'd run off if I read it!

I suppose Linda would have focused more on the element incompatibilities to give people more to work with in the relationship, however I just noticed that they hardly every focused as much on the weaknesses of the fire and air, it was always Cancer who's gotta budge, because Cancer is the one who's being looney and unreasonable. Boooooooring!

RunAroundScreaming - thanks for all your insight and pointing out the 'cardinal' factor, I tend to focus on all the advanced sh*t to try and decode the complexities, and tend to overlook that, primarily because all I ever read of Cancer is lacking anything 'cardinal'. Makes more sense, though.

Fleurdelis - I reckon Linda liked Librans. Have you read the Libra Woman, Gemini Man chapter? It's like an ad for Women's Lib.

BenedictMoon - Incidentally, I HAVE read MysticMedusa, and yes she's a little more current. It IS a little annoying, when Linda is considered so highly in astrology that particularly HER book should paint such a soppy picture of Cancerians. There was a lot of reference to 'fooling oneself' as a Cancer, if you're being anything other than the chick who loves to cook and stay at home. It doesn't invite any of the other signs to take your strength seriously, I find.

Isolaede - Ditto! Cancer/Cancer was truly awful in every respect, lol. All that crying and bickering and politics...Jesus. I mainly read fire and air sign comparisons with Cancer, as I mostly jell with these people. And those chapters are just so bloody un-useful, lol.

StillAtLarge and FireCracker - I can dig that. Though the ones I know express their un-evolved selves as secrecy and promiscuity, dishonesty and avoidance of confrontation. Not my favorite people.

Hope everyone is having a great Christmas week.

PS: On the topic of celebrities, spunky Cancerian chicks with game, guts and creativity:

M.I.A.
Paloma Faith
Juno Temple
Debbie Harry
Cyndi Lauper
Kristen Bell
Michelle Rodriguez

Maybe as a Mars in 1st House, Mars Conjunct Ascendant person, I value strength and guts - but it just seems there is so much more to the Cancer female. Diana Spencer and Meryl Streep are one type, too, and equally as true to Cancer. And yet you also have your Lady GaGa type Aries, and your Mandy Moore type Aries.

Endlessly fascinating.

Yeah, I remember the Cancer/Cancer chapter annoying the crap out of me. I mean, yes...I've seen how two of us together can become the 'old married couple' who falls into a routine but I don't think its that BAD. All I read in that chapter was people bitching and complaining...LMAO. I give credit to her for mentioning the switching of gender-roles that comes sometimes with that relationship...I thought it was far out awesome (and muy appealing to my Aries Mars). But I guess the real reason I'm not too hard on Linda is that she did give a very well-rounded take on us in SunSigns. Yes, she does bring the soppiness into it but there was alot of other stuff in there too. I think AG was the one who pointed out that she actually uses the Solar House method in that book which would explain why everyone's sign in that book looked a little.... realistic? LOL I know you don't agree, but that's how I viewed it.

Anyways, I'm probably going to sound like a broken record here but its very difficult to pin down Cancer because our dispositor is the moon, the fastest moving body in the sky. It switches signs every 2-3 days so the proportion of Cancerians diversely influenced by other signs is much larger than compared to the same kind of influence in other Sun signs. We all like to nurture, true...but I would say that how we do it depends largely on our moon signs (although you could argue that that's true for most signs). Ex: I'm a Virgo Moon so if someone came to me wanting to drown in their sorrows I'd be completely LOST. I believe in finding practical and constructive ways to solve the problems and move foward (yay Aries Mars) than commiserating with them and have them continue to operate destructively(and I even have a ton of neptune..hehe). I even have lots of strange moods and dark periods too, but don't ask me to talk about/express them either...its like pulling teeth to me (see: my Virgo Moon thread).

MOJ---you're welcome! I tried!! Teehee. By the way, I used to think I got along fabulously with the air and fire signs--much better than any earth or water sign---until I realized it's just Aries and Libras I gel with. I love the other masculine signs but they are so unloyal I think I'll pass! :/ yeesh. Earth signs I usually 'tolerate' (sorry earth signs:[ ) but I love me some water signs most of the time...they're expressive and enthusiastic just like me! Same with Aries and Libras--that's what I love about them.
