Isn't the SN something we already master? What's there to learn about the energy? (I have a lot of people in my life who have planets conjuncting my SN, that's why I'm asking). Thank you!
Maira, Yes I can elaborate on this. The SN is our past and what we come here knowing quite well, second nature. When another's planet or luminary conjuncts this point in our chart, we have a lesson to teach them in terms of whatever planet of theirs is conjunct our SN. SN conjunctions in synastry are one of the aspects that point to past life connections, so the thinking is that you're now carrying over these connections to the present, and as the SN person you are here to teach the planet person. For example someone's Moon is conj your SN, your influence in their life is to show them caring and also to show them that they can nurture themselves. The lessons the SN person teaches can be by example, or through direct lessons, for instance helping someone whose Mercury is conjunct your SN by looking over their manuscript for editing, or helping them to brainstorm to develop new ideas. But the lessons aren't generalized. What the SN person teaches is something that the planet person needs to accomplish a specific life task that during their relationship will make itself known. The closeness felt with the SN conjunctions facilitates the confiding that the planet person makes in terms of letting the SN person know about their pressing issues. So the lesson is either by example, or more specifically 'taught' and it is needed for a specific task that the planet person is working on (graduating college, writing a play, mastering a performance, cutting ties in relationships), whatever it may be, it is a specific life task. So there's familiarity, a connection, a sharing of some sort, and then work to wrap up. Usually after the 'work' is completed the SN person tends to tire of the involvement and gets itchy to work on their NN, but many people keep SN conjunctions alive since there is that bonding there on some level, and also they revert to those relationships when realizing the NN feels a lil overwhelming. It can also be that after the work is done the relationship feels fractured and as if it doesn't have the strength to keep going, this will probably happen the more the NN is realized, but if you work at it you can keep the relationships going. The ideal is to balance the NN with the SN, and to hopefully have synastry conjunctions to both of your nodes, throughout your life, to teach you so that you can learn to maintain that balance.
