I didn't mean to offend at all by my post. They really told me that, but I love my afro hair, when it gets wait and dries in the summer it turns into dreadlocks.

road,

I looked at your photo.

You don't have afro hair

It looks like it has nice loose curl-wave.

when I think of Afro-hair, I think of tightly coiled. When it's grown out, it looks wooly and it can be worn in an afro.
When it's cut very short, the hair looks knotted up because of the tightly coiled nature of hair. Another word for it is "kinky" The hair also gets referred to as "nappy" which tends to be derogatory term.

as the mixture of people with black African ancestry varies, the type of hair varies.
It can vary from "peppercorn" (which is hair is so tightly coiled that it tends to break off at a certain length) to straight.

My stepfather had 3 half Japanese daughters. One of them had straight hair, and her son even had straight hair even though the father of her son was part Black.

As a multiethnic person, I have a combination type of hair myself. You could say that it's a loose kinky. On the sides and front, it's a loose kinky. The hair small curly-wavy on top. It's small curly wavy on top. My hair tends to be very dry and look frizzy. It could grow into an afro. My hair has definitely been referred to as "nappy." When it's moistured with water, gel,or oil/grease, it looks like a "jheri curl."

I was born with a full head of straight hair which fell out and got replaced with the hair that I have now.

My mom told me straight up that one old black man thought I wasn't my father's child. One lady said "He looks Filipino"
My mom even said that she was confused when she first saw me because of my pale yellow skin and straight black hair. She wondered how did I come out like that and that she didn't do anything wrong in regards to cheating on my father. She told me that her stepmother explained to her how mixed ethnic children can be like. The doctors tested me for jaundice because of my skin color even though my mother told her that I am that way because of my mixture. Of course, the test was negative.

When my hair is cut short, it doesn't knot up. My hair gets straighter. When my hair was thicker and coarser, my hair would be spiky straight when hair was cut short.

When I was growing up, there was this idea that kinky hair is "bad hair", and hair that is looser than kinky is "good hair" in the African American community. That stuff would get on my nerves.

check out the movie, School Daze. That will give you an idea what I am talking about.

any ways....I don't view your hair as being Afro hair. My hair is definitely far more Afro than yours is. That's to be expected with my strong amount of Black African ancestry.

Many mediterranean Europeans have hair like yours. Many Middle Easterners too.

Tom Hanks has hair like yours.

There are people that get perms to have hair like yours.

man, i know we always (as we say) want what we don't have, but i envy people with curly hair. my hair is damn straight, thick, lush, just A LOT (ok i know to some people it sounds like a dream hair, but), and it is unmanageable. i cannot have it long because it's too much and slippery i cannot even plait it. i cannot have bangs because it just stands up and i look retarded. i tried to perm it and it had no effect!!! never met anyone who had hair like mine, even the people who say they have too much hair, when they weigh mine their jaws drop.

it's from my mother... and my grandma, her hair was like china ink when she was well into her mid-80s. everyone thought she was colouring it. she's still well and sound, but finally she started having grey mixed in.

i wonder if sexual potency and hair is related somehow? i've heard baldies are potent.

Road- you and Banxx sound exactly alike in your posts. Reading this thread I got confused as to who wrote what. (note: this comment had no point)

I like your raps. I also like black kalamata olives the best. Tell your grandpa I said thanks. A Spartan/Cretan mix hmmm? That is tough lady. Where you born in NY?

Can you tell me more about Pisces moon? Do you think it creates deep insecurities?

Pisces moon for me was something that I didn't realize initialy. I have many friends from different cultures....etc. etc.

IT's hard to seperate my moon from everything else as I have a bunhc of sextiles and trines between it and alot of toher planets....and I have four conjunctions involving other planets

But I will say that my moon in pices gives me ecclectic tastes. My emotions are satisfied with variety. Moon in pisces intesnifies insecurity, but I don't think it is the sole cause of it. It intensifies it because you rmore susceptible to a broad range of opinions emotionaly, and you can become confused easily as to what it is you truely need, as you will undoubtedly sympathize with both cops and criminals, saints and sinners, and everyone in between, which is a good bevel to the extremes of pluto for me, which at its worst could lead to alot of anger and frustration, moon in pisces tempers this for me, and allows me to be diplomatic in extreme situations....

but its an energy dray for me, because mercury in sag wants to come out and shock..

Thanks the difference between me and banks is that banks has alot of planets in libra and leo, and I have no planets there...and his planets are by the third house, which explains his good grammar, and diction, and punctuation.

I'm not saying at all what you said is racist. But that is a bad and incorrect sterotype to say that black people or African Americans have dark gums.

My post is definitely not racist. It comes from genetics and mostly due to the fact that specific African Americans can trace their lineage to certain areas based on their gums. The Moors had dark gums, those that mixed with Spaniards gave a darker gum down the line. My ex husband (who is now in charge of one of the biggest forensic labs in the US- and specializes in DNA) knew right off the bat about my heritage.

NOT ALL AA's have black gums nor did I say they did. I said there were AA's that have a darker tint to their gums. As a minority I am doubly ticked that you would accuse me, without knowing me, of being racist or making blanket stereotypes of people.

I've been here for almost 8 years and you can ask anyone, I don't make stereotypical comments (my background is in biochem- so genetics is important to me) nor am I racist.

ETA....

Healthy gums are firm, pale pink, scalloped around each tooth with sharp knife edge ends in between the adjacent teeth. Although “coral pink” or “salmon pink” is the color indication for healthy gums in textbooks, racial pigmentation caused by melanin can make the gums appear darker. Mainly seen in African or Asian heritage, it can be seen in individuals of Mediterranean descent or even sometimes in light-skinned people. Due to the fact that gum color can vary between people, the uniformity of color is of more importance than the actual color itself. However if your gums are in other colors like red, white or black, they can indicate gum inflammation (gingivitis) or pathology.

It is called Racial or Genetic pigmentation. All the rage in some areas is to use a laser to blast the Melanin in order to make someone look less - minority- in order to blend in.

Some have lighter gums (even AA's that have Caucasion in their bloodline) and some Hispanic / American Indians like me come from a blood line that decends from an area where we had Moors (Black / Mediterranean) blood mixed.

So, am I really a racist or am I stereotyping?

Genetically, Road, you must look at your mother's side of the family for baldness. It is found on the X chromosome and if your mother's brothers are bald or have a full head of hair that will indicate what you will have at their age

On my fathers side, they all have great hair. My dad has a full head of hair that is barely turning gray at his age of 65 (16 Jan). However, my brother already has a receding hairline and thining of hair (my uncles are bald).

I think you may do fine considering if your mom's maternal line has lots of hair

For what it's worth, coming from a mutt like me (pointing fun at myself), I didn't think you were being racist nor making thoughtless stereotypes.

When I was a kid, I have been interested in books on anthropology.

I am very fascinated with haplogroups and subclades tracing my own mitochondria haplogroup to J1c and found genetic matches
hes with Jewish/Eastern European people. J,J1,and J1c originated in the Middle East.

I don't know anybody on my father's side of the family nor my maternal grandmother's side of the family. I'd love to know a lot more about my roots. I have taken those ancestry DNA tests to find out more about my roots. I still have yet to take Y DNA test to know more about my heritage on my father's side.

I was given a hard time when I talked about my having a typical black built like my father in regards to long limbs and short trunk. I was mainly referring to people of Western and Central Africa where the Atlantic Slave trade was mainly concentrated on.

When I was growing up as kid/teenager, I was given a hard time for having black features. I was ashamed.

Now that I am adult, I acknowledged those features that I have inherited from biological father andd express some pride in them, I was giving a hard time for that.

As a kid/teenager, my stepfather was stressing that I get my hairiness from the Portuguese in me on my maternal grandfather's side. I started growing mustache at 10 years old. I needed to shave every other day when I was 16 years old.
I felt that I inherited my bushy eyebrows from my grandfather. I thought that was a Portuguese thing too.

in 1991, my mom told me that I get my high cheekbones from the Native American cherokee on my paternal grandfather's side

but yeah.....I didn't view you as being racist nor making unthoughtful stereotypes

I was not offended at all

beararcher is correct.
The hair baldness gene is carried from father to daughter then mom to son.

So basically look at your mothers, father hair.. (your grandfather from your mothers side)

Usually the "darker" gene is dominate. But are some occasions some lighter genes take over.
If you notice, you may see a couple one with black hair, the other with blonde hair.
their children will most likely have black hair.. Except for one.. One may be blonde (depending on how many they have) This is a case where the lighter gene became dominate.
Same with eyes and so on...
In bi-racial children you will notice the same thing.. Majority of the kids look like the darker race, but then one looks like the lighter race..

Both of my kids are bi-racial being white/hispanic.
My daughter looks completely white.. Very light and pale skin.. Blonde hair.. only she has brown eyes..
My son looks completely Hispanic. He's very dark.. He does not look white at all.. Although I do thing his facial features are white..
