I'm curious as to which water sign is more commonly associated with a tendency to alcoholism. I'm trying not to over-generalise, as all kinds of factors usually come into this, but, from experience, water signs are more prone. My mother was a Pisces, and my father was a Scorpio, and both were alcoholics, though my mother was more chronic. I have a Pisces moon, and I have had issues with the old drink, but I am very curious as to which sign is more drawn to drowning their sorrows. Any thoughts?

My dad is an alcoholic. Beer I swear he only drinks beer. But coffee in the morning. But he is not abusive at all. He can hold a job, get his chores done, pay his bills. He is a Cancer Moon with Libra Sun and Mars. He barely ever gets mad. It really takes A LOT. And he smokes a lot of Ciggs. And he use to smoke maryjane when he was a young hippy. And if he ever did anything else why would he tell me!? LoL He isn't the open book type. I think but I'm not sure...his rising might be Scorpio.

I would say first pisces because they have neptune as planet ruler and then cancer because they are that sensitive and like to feel sorry for themselves. Libra can be fragile too but it's getting logical and balanced. Also scorpio gets self-destractive and extreme so..

Well, there are alcoholics of EVERY sign. The flavor of the alcoholism will be shaped by the sign's influences.

Pisces/12th house/Neptune are particularly vulnerable to escapism through drugs, alcohol, and other addictions (even things like video games or watching movies for 17 hours in a row)...it is part of the potential dark side they risk. (The other side of it is being able to potentially merge with the universe into spiritual ecstacy, dreams, music.) Pisces or 12th house Moons, especially, really need to watch it when it comes to drug experimentation...it is better if they find a different, less poisonous outlet for that stuff, like meditation or whirling or making trance music or something.

If I were to say Cancer it would be because I personally can't touch alcohol without going overboard. In the context of other people, I would say pisces too because every alcoholic I've known has something with neptune going on. I'm also a strong neptune/12th houser, so that further complicates things.

Actually I guess all 3 of them are very prone, but the weird random thing I've noticed is if they-or anyone with strong water-also happens to have a virgo moon they'll have a strong sentimental aversion to alcohol because they KNOW what it can do to them and they hate the feeling of losing control.

I have Sun conj Neptune (and my Moon is in the 12th house). I know if I let go I can become addicted to drinking. I love to escape. My Sun, Neptune, and Merc is in the 6th house... which doesn't like to lose control to a fault, or maybe it's Saturn squared to my Sun/Neptune/Merc. My mind is always listing situations that could happen if I allow myself to lose control from addiction. The images are so real in my mind which allow to me to experience what my world would be like if I lose control and influences me enough to not allow myself to lose control. (I'm guessing b/c of my Neptune- allows to have a very free imagination)

I have 2 ex's that are alcoholics and my father is too, and my mom was addicted to drugs...

Both ex's had Sun in Pisces square Neptune, one with moon in Cancer and the other in Taurus...

Dad- stellium in Scorpio, with Moon conj Neptune in Scorpio.

Mom- Sun conj Neptune in Scp, Moon in Pisces

I have a 12th house Pisces Sun and Mercury. Escaping is what I've always done since childhood. Teenage years it was video games. Early 20s it was psychedelics. The past year I've been on a spiritual path, searching for real connection. It's too easy to disconnect, I want to feel what it's like to truly connect, to my soul, to life.

My ex boyfriend was an alcoholic, pot head, and cigarette smoker. Who could not support his habits. Growing up in Detroit and being bi polar and ADD and his mom dieing when he was 16 probably took a toll on him.

He got gastritis in his early 20's if he drinks more than one beer his stomach acts up.

He has Cancer in Moon, Mercury, and Mars.

Pisces. Always. Every description for Sun or Venus in Pisces says "BE CAREFUL WITH DRUGS AND ALCOHOL!!!!!"

Not sure if that's necessarily true in real life (as my Pisces Sun/Pisces Rising mother doesn't drink at all and my Taurus Sun father boozes it up quite a bit) but that's what astrology cookbooks say.

My Pisces (ex) is another example, no alcoholism but he's addicted to gambling and Cannabis (a bit C. is no problem but it was to too tooooo much!) and.. he couldn't keep money in his pocket and HAD to gamble (no therapy worked)... so yes I always had to live with the result of never-milk-in-the-refrigerator etc.

And here again: His (chartuler) Pisces-Sun square (sun ruler) Neptune IN THE 5th (only aspect his Sun makes) !

This aspect spoiled everything between us because in a natural way we related very well (my moon in exact trine to his Sun for example).

About me;
My Sun is the ruler of my 12th and IN the 12th but it only makes positive aspects to Saturn and Uranus.
No addiction-problems or prone to it, I know/feel my limits.
Ascendant square Neptune doesn't do a lot except for maybe an attraction to this prone-to-addiction type (I also blame my Sun in the 12th)

VenusDiSirius, interesting.

I have a very strong 6th house, so that may be part of it. Not all Virgo Moons are the same, of course! But 6th house matters are health/diet related so.. that might be it.

Yep. I even have one virgo moon friend that's heavily piscean but she HATES alcohol or any other mind altering substances and felt extreeeme amounts of shame and guilt last year when she tried out being plastered.

I have no idea why I'm the exception to this rule (actually I do ) but all my other virgo moon friends...strong aversion to alcohol, and the aversion is usually about not wanting to lose control of themselves. Me on the other hand, I welcomed alcohol in the past to escape from my tightly wound up self. The worst I've ever felt was when I made a fool out of myself or accidentally spilled a secret. Oh wait, I am kind of the same as my fellow Virgo Mooners...LOL, nevermind.

I happen to have Scorpio Sun with Virgo Moon and even though I'm 29 years old, I've never been drunk. So you might have a point there

I'm not anti-alcoholic by any means. Sometimes I like a beer or two (I don't particularly like spirits or wine though). It's just that I hate the feeling of dizziness and nausea...

Well that seems to be the main thing for the other water sun/virgo moons I know. They don't like to be drunk at all, or rather...they don't like the loss of control.

Lol I'm a virgo sun and I hate loss of control too. So even though I have a very high alcohol tolerance, I never do what I see other ppl do- drink till they're so completely out of it. I just think that's foolish.

It's pisces isn't it? Pisces aspects (and some other strong neptunian ones) make the person prone to addictive tendencies.
