I think I have spotted a pattern with Saturn-Mars hard aspects showing cruelty and extreme harshness.
I know two people with the square, and one with the conjunction.

The conjunction person is just super-ambitious and utterly hard and pragmatic. Can be very intolerant, very insensitive and sarcastic towards others that are not like him.
On the bright side, very focused and hard-working.

The two people with the square are a girl and a boy around my age(early 20s)-they both seem to be without clear values or principles.
Though, both of them are Cancer Suns with Libra Moons, they seem very cold at times, have no qualms about walking over others to get what they want. Also, very socially ambitious.

All cases are just very pragmatic and seem to not care at all for fairy-tales and seem to reject any sign of softness/weakness.
They seem really awkward about sexuality, as well..they either dismiss any romantic implications, and see it as something purely physical, or don't care about it at all.

I am guessing that everything Saturn touches, it turns into "hard work, responsibilities, obligations", so Saturn's hard aspects to Mars or Venus seem particularly nasty.

What is your experience with this aspect?

I am thinking that Mars-Saturn sextiles and trines and maybe minor aspects would give the ambition and realism, but not crudeness or harshness.
Can't think of any clear examples, but I know Catherine Zeta has a Mars-Saturn trine.

There is greater potential with combined Pluto and Saturn energies to be/turn out ruthless, than Satun and Mars.

My mars conjuncts Saturn widely (8 degrees) and I am a hopeless romantic. Like Sand I I have the Venus/Sun conjunction in the opposite sign which probably counters any of the bad stuff you might see.

Ambitious and hard working yes -Mars conjuncts my MC, Saturn conjuncts it from the 9th by 6 degrees. I am always busy and doing *something* to make money on the side of my day job and exhausting myself by doing too much for everyone (but also have a libra moon..)

I have said insensitive things accidentally but I never ever mean it and usually wish I could swallow my words when that happens! usually I am just talking without thinking - merc in third, aries is the cause i'd imagine - but not ruthless.

I have a huge hopeless romantic streak but I have hardened up a bit over the last few years because guys I meet are so icky and mean and don't appreciate it at all. But it's still there and hopefully I will meet the right person some day who appreciates it. I'm not sure if this Mars/Saturn is softened down by the venus/sun conjunction... I would think that Saturn would in fact inhibit the Mars so you would tend to not be as Martian.

Yea that's me, I have the conjunction, and I attract soooo many people to me with Mars/Saturn in hard aspect, mainly the conjunction and sometimes the square, less often the opposition. We are such hard a**es , and if you don't go according to the rules as we see them you are on our s**t list. lol. We pride ourselves on being hardworking and responsible and we are very harsh to those that don't measure up. We also love to complain about people who don't pull their weight and are often found discussing politicians and how resources are being wasted, we talk a lot about the government, politics of corporations and of universities, the workplace, etc. for that reason. Just obsessed with 'getting it right.' I love em. I mainly attract men with the conjunction, right now I'm friends with 2 with the conjunction: one in Scorpio, and the other in Aquarius. I have the conjunction in Libra, oh and my Daughter has the conjunction in Leo and my Dad has the conjunction in Cancer. I would say also that we easily lose respect for people, but we fervently respect those who do good according to our standards and will stand by them forever and are very loyal. Our tempers are horrid, though, but none of us are afraid of each other cos we're cut from the same cloth. But we've all admitted to wanting to kill people at one time or another, and the 2 men with the conjunction in Scorp and Aqua were violent in the past to others. My conjunction is tied to Pluto, so you know I'm on that train too! I fantasize about killing others at times, and we all are afraid of our anger at times as well because we know how strong it can be and we feel overwhelmed by it. This is the conjunction I'm talking about. The ones with the square I know they are quite argumentative and find themselves faced with unnecessary obstacles cos they don't pace themselves. Us with the conjunction we pace ourselves unless in a rage and then it's either bottled up and routed out somewhere or is obviously expressed, it depends on other factors. But the squares really cannot pace themselves like we can. I still get along with them cos I get where they're coming from and I have compassion for their lack of focus, but I'd much rather have the conjunction, for sure.

I have the Square and while my ultimate goal is self-reliance, I have no true ambition of my own. I don't really want to be in any sort of position of power, authority, or anything like that. Sounds like these two people your talking about might be born 2-3 days after me? I'm also a Cancer Sun, but with a Virgo Moon.

I don't consider myself ruthless in the sense of stepping over others to get somewhere (if that's what you mean), but I know I can become pretty nasty when my will is blocked (Mars is in Aries). I know a couple of other people with the square around my age and temperaments/personality varies but they are all good at working for what they want.

If you do experience cruelty from someone with this aspect, remember that they have a perpetual raincloud over them where everything is blocking them and everyone doubts them. This could really be their only defense mechanism.

I believe I should also mention that my Uranus is involved in this configuration.

No where more true than my friend with Mercury conjunct Saturn conjunct Mars! We were in a store once a group of us and he had wandered off. My girlfriend asked where had he gone and I said "Follow the black cloud." Of course some black people turned around cos they thought I was talking about them, but this one, with his Mercury in the mix, oh my lord. It is unbelievable what goes on in his mind. Huge mental block. So happy it's not in my chart.

I don't think that people with hard Mars/Saturn aspects are particularly hardworking or are hard-a***s. I know a Mars square Saturn who finds it difficult to get motivated for many things and is quite languid.

Mostly I think the square can have a debilitating effect which must be overcome.

I do think Mars/Saturn hard aspects have potential issues but then again so does Venus/Mars or many other aspects. Any aspect can be used for good or bad effect.

I have the opposition Mars Saturn (with a strong afflicted Saturn). Younger, I used to be quite intolerant and hard, mainly with myself. Life made me question and relativize my values and principles and I think it made me humble. I have experienced mental rigidity and the opposite excess... and now things seem to find a balance. It is a process.

Actually, I am still insecure at core and it is still difficult for me to loose my grip on mental positions. I admire Venus in Taurus people for instance as they seem to easily chill out and relax. It is much harder for me.

I have little motivation or ambition. I find it hard to start anything, though once I do start, I can usually see it to the finish.

I tend to bottle up my feelings. Once this gets set off by someone pushes my too far, I can give someone a pretty harsh verbal whiplash. I have been known to make people cry because of this. I usually feel bad about it afterward. But it really takes a long time to get me to this point.

I also tend to not have sympathy for people who play the victim (in my mind). If someone doesn't take personal responsibility and take action, I cannot respect them.

I am very hard on myself - I have a retrograde Saturn, so maybe most of this energy is turned inward rather than toward others.

But my Saturn is also conjunct my Neptune and sextile my Pluto. Also I have a Mars-Pluto trine which is the tightest aspect in my chart.

For actually cruelty - I'd look at negative Mars-Pluto or Pluto-Saturn rather than Mars-Saturn.

This sounds familiar to me. I also have a retrograde Saturn...

Remember, orb comes into play here, and so does strength of sign, how comfortable does Saturn/Mars feel in the signs they are in. For example the most tame one I know has the conjunction in Cancer, as well as a Sun/Venus/Moon conjunction in Pisces in the 9th. The Scorpio with a close conjunct, on sight he is not someone you would want to mess with and he means business at all times, etc. Keep in mind the one with the Scorp has Sadge rising with Venus in the first, but still, the Mars conjunct Saturn can be seen so easily.
.
.
.
Also, I want to hear from those with the conjunction in Scorpio with the addition of Pluto. I knew one young lady with this combination and she had some stories to tell! I don't know if you would be comfortable sharing your stories but if you can say how you've experienced this energy I would love to know. The triple conjunction has occurred in Leo, Libra and more recently Scorpio. I have many examples of Leo and Libra but only one of Scorpio.

Ahhhh I will say that my friends call it being 'feisty.' It's so much easier being around people with the same energy as you have in your own chart, it's like home. And then it's like a natural pairing if they have the opposite from you (don't know if I'm stating this correctly) for example one has Moon square Uranus and the Other has Sun conjunct Uranus, to me those are nice de-facto conjunctions. Sun/Moon and also Venus/Mars pairs. With Venus/Mars it could be your Venus conjunct your Moon and the other person has Venus conjunct their Sun, defacto Sun/Moon conjunction! I love to play around with astro like this, and especially when looking at synastry charts, everything just makes so much sense.

AND,u use commas soooo rarely! I'm tellin' ya,it's the horse's head! Ur style of writing leaves an impression
I get what u'r saying,I have fantastic combos with my friends; many themes, like, each of us has strong Merc, either by sign or number of aspects. We have situations:My Asc is urs Moon,My Sun is urs Mars; Absolutely everyone has Sun/Saturn, conj, oppo, trine.
