When a planet becomes combust, it becomes weak by combustion and thus it becomes unable to protect its significances fully and produce proper results unlike a planet which is not combust and is capable of producing proper results.

Moon is said to be combust when it comes within 12 degrees on either side of the Sun.

Mercury is said to be combust when it comes within 14 degrees on either side of the Sun provided Mercury is in forward Motion. When Mercury is in Retrograde motion, the degree of closeness for combustion of Mercury becomes 12 degrees.

Venus is said to be combust when it comes within 10 degrees on either side of the Sun, provided Venus is in forward motion. When Venus is in Retrograde motion, the degree of closeness for combustion of Venus becomes 8 degrees.

Mars is said to be combust when it comes within 17 degrees on either side of the Sun.

Jupiter is said to be combust when it comes within 11 degrees on either side of the Sun.

Saturn is said to be combust when it comes within 15 degrees on either side of the Sun.

Planet loses its luster and shine due to this closeness and thus the planet is said to be combust.

25 degrees 22'24'
sun in aqua

combust and conjunct jupiter in aqua
24 35 45
so this is where astrology gets mired in my opinion as sun conj jupiter should make him successful (he is) but combust jupiter is weak so his jupiter is not acting in a usual way for him (see meanings of strong and weak jupiter in chart).

i always wondered what combust really meant, but didn't invest time to find out... thanks.

so my Mercury and Venus are combust. but they also say Venus/Sun conjunct people are pleasant or pretty or whatever. i guess it has its down side too? i don't know, come to think of it i don't particularly notice my Mercury and Venus as strong, despite being in a Stellium 1st house. i don't really know what they are doing, actually

I mean, modern astrology says that a conjunction is 10 degrees, so any thing conjunct the Sun is combust. Most descriptions of planets conjunct the Sun say the augment the Sun personality, but the whole combustion thing says the planet is weak. So which is it?

Frankly, I don't feel that my Mercury is weak. It's evwn retrograde and in accidental detriment.

The combust concept is total bulls*** imho.
Me never found any real value in it.

If you go to astrodatabank and search for example lottery winners (or generally rich people) at least third or half of them will have sun conj. venus in combust mode.

Nobody of them bothers to mind it when cashing the dough in Las Vegas lol
