I'll speak for myself.. this term does not apply to me. I won't even attempt to lie because I can't do that.

Why do I always read "humanitarian" and aquarius in the same sentence? That they are concerned with the well being and seek to promote the wellness of society as a whole? Do they think this is a selfless act, because that does not describe me at all. I am only concerned with others if it will benefit me, for example promote self-awareness, promote self-actualization, promote an overall sense of knowledge, again the 'self' is emphasized here. Maybe its because I have all these planets in the first house. Not sure.

I will only help others if there is something to be gained out of it. I will not go out and volunteer to help the sick or the dying if it doesn't relate to me, and if I will not get some kind of reward out of it. It sounds cruel, "Why don't you like helping people?" because honestly most people don't deserve my empathy or sympathy. Every single act that may come across as selfless is entirely based on self-interested motives. Maybe thats a good thing, or a bad thing. It does feel "nice" to help someone but again essentially i must gain something from it.

If i see an old woman being robbed, and if there is something to be gained then I will help. If not. can't say that I will be near the scene. Bad example maybe but you get the gist. I am not sure if other Aquarians can relate to what I am saying. Maybe the way I am coming about it seems very harsh.. but Humanitarian is the last thing to describe me.. and I have Ascendent, Sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Pallas in Aquarius.. so astrologers explain this obvious corrigendum. It worries me that astrologers continue to use this. Myself included and other Aquarians I know are the last thing but humanitarian.

The only people I am kind and 'compassionate' towards and act in some way selfless towards are my friends and my lover. But even with that, the act itself, if you really had to sift through it all, it is done entirely based on self-interest.

I dont want to come off as unpleasant but I have always seriously wondered about this... maybe its just me. I hope others can relate.. I dont know.

How about I twist what you just wrote and said your just being smart!.

Now whould that sound more like you?.

Its smart to help here and there, but never to go above and beyond and end up losing your shirt.

It depends if the aquarian is more uranus rulled or neptune ruled, it was posted somewhere on the forums.

Perhaps. I have more Uranus influence than Neptune(pisces)

Nothing astrological is written in stone and true of everyone with that sign/aspect/placement. You have to take the entire chart into account.

I just realized something else too, after seeing your other thread. You have a lot - a LOT - of placements in Aquarius, BUT the ruling planet, Uranus, you have it in CAPRICORN.

That explains everything.

Most Capricorns or Saturnian people I've talked to have pretty much the exact stance on this type of thing that you do. Having all those planets in the house of self just adds to that, as you pointed out.

My ascendant and south node are in Aquarius and I have Uranus conjunct my midheaven no less, but in the sign Scorpio. I also have a lot of planets in Libra as well as the seventh house, a singleton Neptune as well as a lot of aspects to Neptune, along with a Leo sun and mercury, so I'm a bit of a bleeding heart and I can't relate to any of what you just said LMAO.

The Archetype for Aquarius is the humanitarian, aka the water bearer. Aquarius holds the highest ideals and potentials for humanity. As a symbol of universal love and acceptance, and the well being of humanity as a whole. A symbol is something to be inspired by or to work towards. I'm an Aquarius Rising and incredibly dedicated and interested in social reform and community service. I've volunteered for homeless shelters, AIDS hospices, urban centers. Not to gain anything for myself but because I get enjoyment from connecting with all kinds of people and I hate the imbalances (Libra Sun) in our society and I want to make a difference.

The symbol of Aquarius being the humanitarian is an ideal to work towards, it might not completely exist but it's like the constellation in the sky, something to reach up towards.

Not so relevant, but a lot of the Aquarius-heavy people I know are more self interested than they are selfless. Sometimes, they even border on rejecting society...rebelling, almost, defying.

Such is the opposite of Leo, the leader?

My parents are caps with venus in aqua and both a pretty humanitarian...always giving to charity and my mom has done several missions in the world to help the poor medically and also spiritually...

My first boyfriend was an aqua and I met him at church and he was also humanitarian and involved actively in his church helping others...this was back when I was religious (14 years old).

I guy I was seeing recently is an aqua and the guy is always thinking about humanity to the point that he is depressed bc he sees how this country is turning into a dictatorship and how elitist are working towards a one world goverment and is driving him crazy that most people are sleep, not aware that this is going on or dont care. He is not activist bc he thinks it will not make a difference. I know another aqua that is friends with my husband that also believes that elitist are working towards a new world order (one world government) but is not doing anything about it bc he thinks that is too late.

Aqua is visionary and idealistic and aqua loves freedom and wants a world were values of freedom are fought for and enforced. Aqua can be humanitarian in a neptunian way by wanting to help the less needy or in a more uranian way by raising awareness through activism. However a lot of aquas are not involved bc they feel it will not make a difference and just become depressed bc they truly care about humanity and hate direction things are going. My friend that I was seeing he says he sometimes feels he hates humanity bc everyone is asleep and everything is deteriorating as a result. Hence, this love for humanity can turn into hate or go back and forth depending on the maturity and coping skills of the aqua.

Hope this answered some of your questions..

I think what makes aqua humanitarian is that they are visionary and want humanity to evolve!

VISIONARY IS THE KEY WITH AQUA I THINK. Raising awareness for the purpose of guiding society to a higher evolutionary level.

I respect your honesty If i can help someone (who is truly deserving) i feel rewarded because, more often than not, it just puts a smile on their face. Even just a thankyou is enough for me. That doesn't always happen but at least i tried.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything but if someone helps you out, do you always reward them? Honestly, if you were, God forbid, lets say left for dead and you were surrounded by hoardes of people but they just stared and went on their merry way, you wouldn't lie there and scream "Hey you f******* wankers HEEELP MEEE!!!" LOL

i have to say this is a very Aquarian post if you havnt implied that u are an aqua i would've guessed...

not every aqua is a full blown philanthropist/humanitarian!! but its in their nature to care, maybe you need time to realize your instincts.. i like what u said about ur caring for ur friends is "self-interest" all human emotions/actions are on the self-interest basis, even philanthropists do what they do to feel good about themselves!

and your first humanitarian cause is to stop astrologers from calling aquas humanitarians, hmmmm its a start!

i agree that alot of people dont relate to their astrological discriptions, in your case i'd read it again

Yes... That would probably be why.

All my personal houses are empty - and usually my goals & things I do in my everyday life are aimed at benefiting others in some way. I don't actually care much about myself although I do love myself, ironically (I'm an Aries after all lol)... But, basically - I don't feel as though I *need* anything. Others seem to need a lot of things that I can help with or provide... whereas I feel pretty self-suficient.

My dad is an aquarius and I would have to say without a doubt he has serious self interest in actual fact is narrcistic. My ex was an aquarius and he too wasnt narrcistic but there is a cold fish streak in most of the aquarius men i know.

This is something I have been thinking about recently, but not specifically about Aquarius (of which I am, incidentally).
But more altruism in a general sense.

I don't think it truly exists actually.
Every action for the benefit of another still has a reward of some sort for the self, even if it is just the knowledge of helping someone else - it boosts the self-esteem, makes you feel good about yourself, gives you a sense of purpose, a feeling of 'doing something right/worthwhile'.

So, personally, I think altruism, in the true sense of the word, is a contradiction at best, and an illusion at worst.

Just my 2 pennies.

The women are the most narcissistic I've ever met. Always liars. Self-indulgent to the extreme. They use their children and their spouses ruthlessly. I would urge any guy I know to avoid them like the plague. Aqua placements like asc or moon are much more honest and true to the description.

Stillatlarge,

clearly you have had a bad experience.
It's a bold statement to say that all Aquarian women use their children and spouses - at all - nevermind ruthlessly.
I offer myself as (one of the many) exceptions to your rule.

Back to the OP, I think it is perhaps dangerous to attempt to take traits that all humans are capable of and make them specific to an astrological sign.
Perhaps certain signs have tendencies, but everyone has the power to create themselves.

This is one of my main issues with astrology, it can lump people together too much for my liking (perhaps dependant on the speaker), and doesn't allow enough dynamics, of which there are many, in human nature.

There's is some major hater-ade for Aquarians. Honestly they are human beings just like the rest of us and they too have their faults. The case could be made and is often made for or against any other sign. Aquarians are some of the greatest friends I've ever had. They are people like the rest of us and astrology just points to general patterns not necessarily accurate facts.

I think altruism is not purely selfless but it is an act that is MUTUALLY beneficial for the reason that we are all connected and are one so helping someone is simultaneously helping yourself and everyone and I think Sag intuitively understands this and is why this sign tends to be generous and kind. I don't know many aqua women but the aqua men I have met over the years are concerned for humanity, some of them do something about it and others don't but the concern is there even if they wish it wasn't. Alex Jones is an aqua and that guy is either going to get murdered for fighting for this country or is going to get sick from working so hard to raise awareness and for fighting for our rights.

Woah are you saying we are like that? I am not narcissistic.. I may be self-absorbed and self-interested but this is something I admit. I dont deny it at all and this might surprise people but its me and Im not going to change it. I have moon venus, saturn and other planets in the first house paired with my sun and my ascendant both in aquarius

I just dont consider myself Humanitarian. In all honesty In a general sense it sounds mean but I don't particularly care for people. If I do.. it is a fleeting moment.. and if I do care its because I am attracted to them because they have 'problems' and i want study them and gain all the information i can about them. and than i move on. This has worked against me with specific friendships mainly with Capricorns.. I guess to them I show that I 'care' and when I disappear or just dont have interest in them anymore, they take it to heart and begin to attack me verbally.

Im more interested in people's problems and im more interested in their mental dynamic if anything. Some people take it to heart though. I have never committed a selfless act, in my life. Not because I choose not to.. I don't feel I have the capacity to be entirely selfless, there is always some personal motivation to be gained, somehow in some way. I can't help that either lol

Mohammar Gaddafi was certainly not humanitarian either. You may find this article of interest: http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/2011/10/22/gaddafi-birth-chart-shows-loony-eccentricity-revolutionary-personality/

Many astrologers are idealists enough to mention the more positive expressions of a sign like Aquarius, which can be humanitarianism. This is a generalization and optimal view, not a "lie."

A general rising sign description will not really fit more than maybe 1/2 those people - or fewer. There is more involved than just the rising sign qualities. Anyone can be modified somewhat in their personality from the typical rising sign description, depending on what planets may be conjunct or parallel the correct Asc degree, or making other angular aspects. However, let's look at the basics of Aquarius. It is a positive (outward-directed sign), expressing the air element, meaning through the nerves/mind/social responsiveness. When on the Asc it affects the head/body more directly than with any other point in the horoscope, so the effect is as much physical as relational. Its fixed quality is structure-oriented within the air framework, especially outward, worldly or global structure - collectivist - at least in its fullest development.

The overall energy dynamic of the Aquarius type (rising or Sun) is centripetal - outside-in. This is where the ego or self-identity needs outside orientation in order to define itself. This contrasts with Leo, which is centrifugal, inside-out self expression.

If this does not sound like you at all, then your correct rising sign may not be Aquarius at all, or you have very distinct planetary factors in the 1st house/Asc area.

Ultimately the question is unanswerable without your chart displayed or birth data. Signs are only one facet of the whole picture. It certainly isn't a matter of "lying," but of understanding and overall horoscopic synthesis.

My ex husband was Aquarius Sun and Venus, Cancer Moon and Capricorn Mars and very much concerned and compassion re others/strangers. Nobody was beneath him, no one was judged, he was not better than anybody who walked the planet. Everyone was equal and deserved a fair go. I found it fascinating to watch and painful to watch because he was taken advantage of so much. He was a real sucker for a sob story, people saw him coming a mile away and took more than their share. Maybe the Cancer moon? I don't know, but that's where I learnt that Aquarians are humanitarians, not from an astrologer. And kudos lindisfarne, for your honesty. :-)

LOL you are an enigma my friend...

I too love the mental exercise of figuring out people and part of my attraction to people that I choose to pursue as friends or for a relationship is that they fascinate me and I want to study them.....but also I want to learn from them and also I enjoy the feeling of helping them and seeing them grow and love the concept of growing together.

I noticed in another thread that you said that you are extremely motivated to acquire material things......

and this got me thinking is it possible at all that you have your time of birth off by an hour or two because if it was off by that amount of time there is a good chance that all those houses you have in the first house or at least a portion of them actually fall on your second house.

Food for thought...
