That is why the Bible says "Test the spirits"

So, I have no idea what the deal is when a dead person comes to you in a dream. Is it that person, really? Is it a dream? Is it a deceiving spirit?

It's been in waking life lately, not a dream. I have had dreams of talking to people that had passed on but this is different, this happens when I'm awake. When there is a spirit that makes physical contact with me, for example, how would I test one?

Or, alternately, seeing a dead person might be connected to something that the person represents. For example, dreaming of someone who made you feel secure and safe and protected could be a way for your mind to bring those issues to light. And, too, sometimes people in dreams don't *act* like they did when they were alive (or if still alive, don't act how they normally do)--that's happened to me a number of times. There are a number of possibilities, at least in my opinion. Sometimes dreams aren't meant to be literal. Dreaming of dead people that you never knew but who have a certain meaning to you (such as dead celebrities that you admire or just like) could be tied to what those people represent or how they make you feel; people whom you've never met would have no reason to talk to you or send you a message. It's also to my understanding that people don't generally dream of the dead until they have moved on/healed enough/accepted the death.

As for speaking to the dead if they speak to you, I personally would be cautious. That's a hard one to call. I would be cautious that the person actually is who they claim to be and isn't an evil spirit in disguise. I know that several people that I have known have only seen spirits when they were near death, so I would also worry about it for that reason--maybe when you're close to death, the lines between our world (that of the living) and theirs (the world of the dead) "start to blur" a little. I don't know.

I personally do not use ouija boards (never will, either--you never know what you'll get) or other forms of contacting the dead. The only thing really that I do is to act very respectful in my grandparents' house when I go there and am around their things. I do feel "watched". I remember being more scared when I wasn't as respectful, but the last time that I went, I felt peaceful because I was more mature (had a year to grow) and was more respectful. I don't feel like people constantly watch me or anything, and I definitely believe that my grandparents have moved on and are no longer in their house, but I still want to respect what was theirs. Just because they aren't there doesn't mean that they can't see. (They both died in the house of prolonged illnesses--just a few months short of twenty six years apart, in two different rooms).

I think, though, that the passages about contacting spirits in the bible are meant first and foremost to prevent people from coming into contact with evil spirits/being possessed by evil. Inviting spirits to come to you can bring forth the bad as well as the good and it's a very highly dangerous thing to do, which is why it is probably better not to be involved in it. However, it's much harder to call it when it truly is a good spirit trying to send a message or something; having this brought up has given me something to think about.

The only thing that I think that you could do would be to pray to God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit and ask for very firm and clear guidance in that situation, and to keep praying until you get a clear answer before proceeding.

I agree with the bit about the night dreams of those that have passed, I surmised the same when I had mine some years back.
My issue lately has been, being physically touched by spirits (not evil, didn't seem threatening), and seeing an evil spirit (if that is what it was), face and hair, not the body, as i was transfixed by the eyes and too scared to look elsewhere, there may not have even been a body.. And I didn't invite them. I can tell the gender of the spirits, relative age, skin color, personality, etc. but I only saw with my real eyes the evil one, the others I sensed physical characteristics because they were making physical contact with me and I could pick up on their traits, it's hard to explain. After the evil one, I spoke to a friend of mine who is Christian, active in his church, and he gave me some phrases to recite aloud, but honestly, even saying those phrases scares me, I do not like demons and what I saw was demonic energy. That one did not touch me, the others that do, do not seem evil.

I wonder if it is not Catholicism, which is actually more against fortune telling/astrology than biblical Christianity? I have heard that from some Catholics..I was baptized and raised in the Presbyterian church, which I no longer follow as it doesn't speak to me as much, but I never remember hearing of anything against fortune telling there, not for or against. I know of the edict to not follow false gods or prophets which I agree with, I take that to mean to follow your inner divinity as it aligns w.God.
