When in comparison to Sun?
Do you think the Ascendant colors the natives personality in a major way? For example if someone has Pisces sun, but a Capricorn rising, or Capricorn rules their first house, What would this person be like?

I think the ascendant is pretty damn important. For a while I thought was pretty insignificant when I first started astrology (always had the luxury of knowing when my exact birth time was), but the more I got into the intricacies of natal charts, I knew how important it was to know your ascendant. As a Virgo rising, my chart ruler is Mercury. Despite having a Taurus sun and an Aquarius moon, I'm an extremely Mercurial person. This side of my personality is deepened with the face Mercury is in the 8th house. While I'll always have Taurean qualities and believe my Aquarius moon is a pretty pivotal part of who I am, I believe that Mercury in the 8th really gets to the core of my soul. Chart rulers are very important.

I have a Cancer Sun and a Libra Ascendant. My ascendant colors the way I present myself and the way people see me, but my Sun sign is who I am deep inside; what my true nature is.

The ASC is more "outer" to the whole person, imo. It is stuck on the person, one could say. However, when one gets to know a person better, it is usually the Sun and moon one deals with.
I am a Scorpio ASC but when you get close to me, the Scorpio goes away and I am my Cancer moon or Gemini Sun.

This is the thing; I know people SAY the ascendant is just the first impression you give to others, but I think it's actually one of the main parts of the personality too, right along with the sun and the moon, because I definitely feel Aquarian to some extent. But then again my south node is in Aquarius to and I have Uranus angular so that might actually be what's doing it instead of my ascendant.

So when people get close to you they might notice how moody you are? Going off of your sun and moon placements?

I feel at times I'm very much like my Scorpio Ascendent...I'm not even talking about just using it as a mask to the whole world of people around me. I'm a Libra sun, I'm definitely like one...but at times some Scorpion traits do surface in me.

I was reading "Planets in Synastry" by E.W. Neville and this is what he had to say:

"Eastern astrologers envisioned the Ascendant as a source of light and the Sun as a lens through which this light passes. If the Ascendant and Sun are closely aligned (as would be the case if a person is born very near sunrise) then the "light" of the Ascendant (the "I AM" of the personality) passes through the lens of the Sun without significant bending or refraction and the image presented to the outer world is an accurate image of the inner person. This close alignment of Ascendant and Sun is, of course, rather uncommon, and most natal charts contain considerable and angular separation between these two points..."

I also believe the rising is very important. My rising and sun are in two very different signs and I believe people view me quit differently than who I really am inside. But over the years I have learned to accept that.

There have been times I wished I had Libra or air rising so I could come off more charming and feminine.

I tend to think of the ascendant as how we express ourselves. And in expressing yourself you are expressing your sun, moon, venus, etc, all the parts that make up the whole you. I see it like the voice that delivers yourself to others, your personality vehicle.

How you express yourself is as much a part of your core personality as your personality.

I express myself predominantly through music; without it I wouldn't even be half of who I am.

My Capricorn Sun and Pisces Ascendant (official birthtime) make me like one massive contradiction from hell. The combination makes no sense to me whatsoever. So, I'm supposed to be some dreamy pie-in-the-sky go-with-the-flow directionless easy-go-lucky guy on the outside, but some hardcore unyielding focused and determined dictator on the inside?

This stuff (sh1t?) makes even less sense:

Sun Sign Capricorn with Pisces Rising

If you have Pisces rising, others will see you as generous, sympathetic to those less fortunate, and very sensitive and sentimental. You are the essence of feeling and imagination.

People may often see Pisces rising as someone they can easily take advantage of because of your capacity for unconditional love and compassion. And in no area is this more true than love. You are the classic candidate for the codependent relationship.

In matters of love, sex and dating the need to be needed is strong. You must be aware of setting boundaries in relationships otherwise you could be taken advantage of. A Pisces Ascendant must learn to give love without losing the self. If you’re in a good love match however, your dreamy imagination can take love and sex to a whole new dimension.

In a relationship, Capricorns are a slow starters, but prove to be explosive performers and long-lasting, loyal companions. They are quite skilled with people, once they overcome their initial reserve.

Capricorns strive to conceal their vulnerability beneath a confident veneer of ambition and material success, but passionate Mars is always bubbling just below the surface.

I KNOW it's important, just because of all the ways i feel ultimately connected to everything pisces, and there's no way that could all come from my venus, and those are the only two placements i have in pisces.

i always have people tell me i'm mysterious and dark and whatnot, when really i'm one of the bluntest, weirdest craziest people ever, i.e. aquarius lol

the ASC is one of the most important parts of your astrological make-up imo. i have always identified more strongly w/ scorpio than capricorn, and then i found out my asc is scorpio and puts a distinct coloring over my capricorn sun..can't deny it..

^ maybe you're actually an aries rising instead?

Like me?? You should read aries rising traits and see if it fits you better. It would make sense too, cos you're pretty successful, and aries likes to do things well and be number one.

I can see alot of aries in me. Although I don't blow up easily, or am impulsive, I can be very assertive, strong, determined and a fighter in the sense that I'm not one to give up. I am pretty stubborn at times and very strong willed. I like hiking and exercising, camping etc. I like being number one, and I'm straight up. I don't stand for mind games, I like my independence, I like being on the go and having adventures! Lol
Might be my sun conjunct mars too, but since the orbs loose, I think it's more my aries rising that gives me those traits.

Yes I think I am, except that my father and his friend, the OB who delivered me, are confident and adamant about the time of my birth, and they are insulted by my suggestions that they may be off lol

It could very well be. Or perhaps I just don't have a good grasp of what it is to be a Piscean. I have yet to find a proper, reliable description, or perhaps I have read one but not recognized it.

Capriquarius made a very relevant point in another thread. Piscean aspects are supposed to be "weak" in the sense that they can be overshadowed by other aspects. That is another possibility.

Absolutely does not sound like me. If I were like that, my wife would leave me:

Go with the flow" seems to be a Pisces rising motto. They move about the world in a vaguely directionless, gentle manner. They come across as artists and lovers of peace; but their open minds and hearts can give them a chameleon-like persona. Others are not always sure who they'll meet from one day to the next with a Pisces rising person. Although often quiet and shy, another day may find them talkative and passionate. They are hugely impressionable, have a dreamy disposition, and project a soft-hearted personality. Pisces rising sees the world the way they want to see it at any given time, so objectivity is not necessarily a strong point. Neither is decision-making!

People with Pisces rising resist any kind of labeling--their characters are changeable, and they don't want to be pinned down or pegged in any way. Theirs is a restless, searching nature that cannot be happy with any one way of living or being. Pisces rising avoids cold, hard facts and harsh realities like the plague. They don't have a decisive plan for tomorrow or even today, preferring to keep things open. Since they change their minds frequently enough, and like to "feel" their way through life, too much organization or structure can be seen as very limiting.

Pisces rising people walk around with their heads in the clouds, and even when you do have their attention, their dreaminess is almost always apparent.

These people look for a stable partnership--one that is reliable. Pisces rising people gravitate to partners who keep them on their toes, and they often will pass off the little details and reality checks to their significant other. They seem to need a practical, realistic partner.

Pisces Ascendants often have a sensitivity to drugs, and sometimes are prone to allergies that come and go. Their physical constitutions seem to be less resistant than most.

Pisces rising people often possess an irresistible charm that comes on in a quiet way, with a soft aura about them. Both their appearance and mannerisms are usually quite intriguing to others.

Mine (Aquarius) makes me more independent but that is all I want to see! I suppose my asc might have something to do with my being the oddball in most situations (poor amongst rich, black amongst white, tall amongst short) but personality wise, I hope not! However, I do see it when people try to exert control or authority over me. It has to be that Uranus in Scorpio conjunct MC, because when I feel that people in positions of power are wrong then I become the textbook Aquarius "rabble rouser" complete with petitions, protests and walk-outs.

So, I consider myself a situational Aquarius rising...

I'm not a big Aqua fan though. Maybe because my Sun, Venus and Mercury opp Asc and although Uranus is conjunct my MC it squares Sun, Mercury and Jupiter in Leo. I haven't really gotten along with, well, any of the Aqua Suns I have encountered (so far, that is, I am not completely closed off to them or anything). They have all rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm a Scorpio Sun with Virgo Rising. I definitely have the Scorpio need for privacy and introspection, and the way I do it is often through fairly Virgoan means. For example if I'm kind of tired of dealing with people at a party and need to "retreat", I go help the hostess with the dishes. Or with the Scorpio sex thing, I like to read and write stories to express that. I don't quite see the Ascendant behavior as a "mask," though. It's what truly naturally occurs to me to do.

If I had a different rising sign maybe I would express my Scorp instincts differently...

Yea, I was wrong to use the word mask. It is a critical part of the person. It just seems more "outer" than the moon or the sun.
