*as for my view about it being an interpretive art:

I would say that I'm in the middle. I think that there are core beliefs and ideas that are so essential or else so established and set that they can't be refuted, such as Venus ruling Libra, or that there are 12 signs, or that Aquarius is an air sign and not a water one.

However, on some things, I think that there is more room for discussion.

Honestly (and I don't mean to drag religion into everything), I view it like I view Christian denominations: there are core beliefs shared by almost all Christians, but each denomination expresses itself very differently, and each have different beliefs on non-essential issues/issues that are outside of the very core beliefs that can't be altered. An Episcopalian would not believe or practice the exact same way as a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox or a Baptist or a Pentecostal. However, differences aside, I would consider all to be part of the body of Christ and all to be Christian, just expressing it differently (however, not all denominations would see it that way--some do see it as their way being THE way, but mine does not: mine sees all Christians as the universal church, and this is the view that I myself hold).

Likewise, I tend to approach astrology the same way. There are core things that are set and established and that are essential. Other things, though, leave more room for interpretation. Some things are more critical to have uniform and some things are essential to the core beliefs. Others, though, in my opinion, just aren't that way. Some areas are clear and very decisively one way only, but other areas, to me, are very murky and leave room for differences in opinion.

Differences in opinions and discussions should be rewarding.

I agree, but with the stipulation that there is respect.

Exchanges of ideas, if civil and polite, can be very mind-opening and can help us understand another point of view, even if we don't change our views. They can foster empathy and compassion.

However, when people are pushy, aggressive, arrogant, uncivil, personally attack others, malicious, act like they know everything, etc. (and I am NOT pointing anyone out/this is NOT aimed at anyone specific and I am referring to discussions in general, not just Lindaland), then that is when I personally tend to walk away from a discussion or else just ignore the person causing trouble. It's not an exchange anymore when one person is just shooting a big machine gun of verbal bullets at another person or when one person is so forceful that you can't really enjoy the 'back-and-forth' dynamic.

I guess I think that exchanges of ideas or debates should be kind of like a friendly tennis match: back and forth, back and forth, and at the end of the match, good sportsmanship is shown and people are civil and respectful. Both people walk away friends. Nobody beats each other with the racket. Courtesy and etiquette, to me, are really important in many situations, but especially in situations that could become heated or unpleasant or volatile.

yeah, I'm definitely a Libra, through and through lol.

It seems like a lot of people have been kind of stressed lately. I know I got that way around Christmas (for which I feel bad, but I did apologize so I'm not going to beat myself up too much; just will try hard not to fall back into that).

I personally get like that (snippy) when stressed/anxious or when something is bothering me and I get 'stuck' (emotionally).

I'm hoping that if people are stressed or upset this will work itself out and that people who are feeling agitated now will be back to their higher selves again soon.

What a cute kid!

Leave it to the astute Libra to see the silver lining in any dark gloomy cloud (e.g. annoying Cap with strong Neptune)

They're cute all right but can be mean lil fockers! I was at a petting zoo where they're housed with some sheep and they were knocking all the sheep off the perches. They're really vocal about their complaints too lol. I stood there marveling at how astrology could have us Caps pinned so well with this symbol.

Since I'm new to this forum I'm quite curious as to what Coffee is talking about. I am a novice at astrology too so I would love to learn the correct way of doing it. I also agree with Regardes that respect and honoring different of opinions and perspective of others is important to creating a feeling of good-will in others. One can respectfully disagree with someone and still be firm in one's view. Sometimes when you are extremely radical with people that it creates dissonance with the people you're trying to reach with your philosophy. I know because I used to be extremely vocal about my beliefs. I have all types of friends, Republicans to Radicals...I used to not be able to be around Republicans, but the more I reflect on what I'm trying to achieve, I try to find the common denominator with them. When one comes from a place of love, there is nothing to prove but accept that we are all trying to achieve the same aim. Scientifically speaking, I think astrology is precise like astronomy and at the same time different because one has to utilize intuition.

I don't want astrology to lose its spirit in an attempt to be hard core like the so called sciences in pronouncing this is the correct way and the only way to arrive at something. What I'm hearing you are trying to say is Coffee is that people on here have not really learn the core of Astrology when you are referencing the correct way of doing Astrology.

I would love to learn the core of doing Astrology. There are many charlatans out there that give Astrology a bad rap and if sometimes one has to knock a few heads to see the light so be it. And at times even knocking a few heads may not change anything, but make people more antagonistic. Sometimes we all have to learn when to pick our battles. It is good to express one's discontent instead of holding it in.

You (Coffee) remind me of a character from Bones--Dr. Temperance Brennan. She is very passionate about her field and at times come off quite abrasive and standoffish when she's adamant about her work but she means well. My correction but since you're a male, Dr. House. He is the same way. I look forward to getting your book though to see what you're talking about. I'm not sure what name you will be under though.

As someone who avowedly appreciates honesty, I think that you may appreciate this:

My first thought upon seeing this thread was that its level of drama is more in line with a board full of pregnant chicks (check out the BabyCenter birth boards....yeesh) - funny, Coffee, as you seem to frequently bemoan irrational, overemotional women.

Why, dude, when this post is supposed to be about your leaving?

Unless, of course, it was really about having people come on and say, "No! No! Coffee - you're wonderful and brilliant! Please stay!"

I won't weigh in on your knowledge and style - I haven't been on here long enough - but, your being awfully dramatic for someone who's not seeking it.

Just say, "No," man.
