Do you believe in them? Do you use house cusps and sign cusps?

Like, I read that a planet can be considered to be in two houses when really close to the border...so, I dunno, why not the same with signs?

In my opinion...

I like cusps. I use a sooper small range, though, like the planets at 28, 29, 0, 1 and 2 degrees are cusp planets to me. I find those planets are conflicted between the two energies.

For example! My Cancer friend has a Aries-Taurus Moon. Her Moon doesn't make any aspects to Mars and it isn't in the First, yet we find she behaves like both at different times.

But like, I know cusps aren't too popular around here - I mean, whatever works for you, right?

So, do you cusp or do you not cusp?

EDIT! I suppose I should mention I only consider cusps for the personal planets. The rest it's just like whatever.

Do you have a cusp-y planet? How does it play out for you?

Like, it could just be how you perceive it, I guess, but...eh?

I definitely use cusps! People are complex! For instance I just noticed that myself and all my siblings (except maybe the youngest, haven't checked him yet) have cusp moons! in completely different signs too! We all have the same mother too lmbo

For those who may need logic:
In western astrology I am a Scorpio Moon 'cusped' Libra and an Aries rising 'cusped' Pisces
In vedic astrology I am a Libra Moon, Pisces rising.
I believe both western and vedic astrology are correct and can be activated/used in relation to life phase/location.

When I was a child I didn't much identify much with my western chart. My mom also did not act the way she later did when I 'grew into' my western chart. At the time I was living out my some of my 'cusps' more, my mom was expressing her libra in venus and GOOD neptunian qualities positively. I didn't 'need' the other part of my cusps yet.

More logical then that:
Math and science are considered extremely logical, exact, unemotional and unbiased.
Why then does my pisces mercury form a 'square' instead of a 'sextile' to my crush's taurus venus? Because my pisces mercury is in 1* cusped Aquarius and Aquarius squares Taurus -even the mathematics of Astrology itself recognize cusps!

That being said I still read the interpretations mostly for the sign my planet rests in generally unless I need to delve into further 'colors' of that placement. It's such a great 'digging' tool into the personality!

You've now encouraged me, RedScorp, to peruse the bridge of my cusped Mercury! Lol (I only just realized it was barely in pisces this week)

Oh I do notice that, with planets that are only within one degree or so of sign, people seem to really idealize that sign for that placement more, yet obviously (to others) embody at least 'touches' if not major characteristics of the cusped sign.

Also, I do not think that cusp influence can be explained away by house influences. I.e. I do not think that a person with venus in the mid-degress of Aqua in a house cusped by Capricorn will have the same affect on their venus as someone who has venus in 1* Aqua with VENUS cusped Capricorn (which, yes, would probably give that house a cusp in Capricorn too).

I encouraged you? I'm touched!

Like, to me, Astrology is a tool that you can use. Some use it one way (no cusp), others another way (cusps). Whatever works for you!

Do you ever feel like an Aquarius Mercury along side being a Pisces Mercury? Having the quirks of both, for example.

Oh Lotis White, I completely know what you mean! Like, each degree is an individual energy within the sign. As soon as a planet is in that new degree, it's now utterly in that sign. But to me, I think the energies can like, blend into one another. The bright red of Aries slowly changes to the warm orange of Taurus.

And yee, I saw your thread or something about the Sun and Moon being all fatty. I thought that was pretty cool. :'D I thought about that once before, actually. "The sun is a huge thing, could it take up like a whole degree's worth of space by itself?" Now I know it's not THAT large, but still a VERY interesting find. I think if we could agree on a cusp, that would be it for the Sun and Moon, that tiny window.

Duads def are something to consider too. I just like cusps. Blending and blurring of borders...but then again, I was never very dependant on logic (everything being precise and one or the other), sooo...

Interesting topic! I'm intrigued. I have a question regarding my AC. As you can see, Pisces is in my first house, but my AC is Aquarius. Would I be considered a Pisces AC as well as an Aquarius? Thank you!

Which leads me to think that you won't feel them as cusps 'cause you don't believe in 'em or whatever, but like, if I had a cusp planet, I'd feel it 'cause I do, ya know?

I believe this too as far as the person CONSCIOUSLY knowing the effects of it. However, those who don't even 'believe' in astrology still fit their charts lol

The signs are all energies they are not solid things with a border. If you have two lamps in a room on either side of the room, the lights blend into each other whether it is at first perceptible or not. Now someone trained in lighting (for instance a photographer lol) could tell the merging of the lights, the shapes, the colors, etc. maybe easier then the average person. I look at duads, decans, and degrees as being part of this cusp/sign rainbow and not separate at all.

Also, as far as I've ever read all this fix point stuff in western astrology is all calculated in a way that does not EXACTLY reflect the real planets in the sky as they are actually transitioning -you have to look the sidereel chart to see where the for real, for real planet was in the sky at any given moment. Sidereal is like what they use in Vedic and, I think, Hebrew astrology -a LITERAL picture. So what usually is a cusp in western may be the real sign in sidereal, hence may be the real sign the planet was in on your actual first gasp of breath ever lol

Yay, RedScorp my Inspiration! *clasps hands and kicks a dainty leg behind her -all while having dreamy admirer eyes* hahaha

I've actually JUST noticed my tendency to have a aqua tint to my thinking and speaking sometimes -and yes after I acknowledge this energy is when I see I have the 'cusp' lol I feel that the cusps with anything except the Sun are kind of 'available' energy we can kick into if wanted/needed. I think the moon cusp, at least for my siblings and I, literally translates as our earlier life experiences and our early relationships with our mother vs. the latter, it's really that obvious and evident.

I think Astrology will always have debates here and there and unknowns.. But just think of Neptune or Pluto, just because they were unknown or didn't seem to fit and the fact that they were debated about didn't negate their influence or existence. When humanity was ready to accept them, there they were. They don't do away with old rulership ties either. It's ALLL relevant. There will always be more hairs to split, more energies to discover, etc. The day there isn't is will be when all our souls are fully 'complete', I guess?.. -and who the hell knows what would happen 'then'!!! Lol

^^Edited lol

For me there is NO such things, planets are either IN a sign or NOT..

Now house placements are totally different as it's said that anything within 5' of a house cusp is more effective in the next house along going anti clockwise...

Planets conjunct a house cusp http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showpost.php?p=202304&postcount=7 http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?p=205033#post205033
Planets conj House cusp
“Ascendant at 15’ Libra and Jupiter 13’ Libra. That would place Jupiter in the 12th house, right? But many thoughtful astrologers would read this as Jupiter being conjunction with Ascendant, and end up reading it as bringing its action to bear in the first house, rather than in the 12th.
This same idea would apply for each and every house cusp. If the planet is IN THE SAME SIGN as the sign on the next house cusp, and close enough to be CONJUNCT WITH that next house cusp, the action of the planet will be directed into oncoming house” http://www.astrology-numerology.com/inhouses.html http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14887 http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showpost.php?p=125412&postcount=4
Ptolemy says the influence of the house begins to be felt 5° before the actual cusp. http://www.astrologycom.com/houses.html

“Astrologers have seen a body influencing the house it is about to enter, time and time again. All theorizing aside, the planet casting its shadow ahead works. I can speak from personal experience, as well as reading ancient texts. If you discover this as true, then the next question may be, "Just how close must a body be to a cusp before it begins to be felt in the neighboring house?"
I've seen some authors say 3 degrees. I've seen some that give 5 degrees. I have seen some that even give 8 degrees. And there may be other variations.” http://astronuts.tribe.net/thread/90c9f417-5086-4ff0-b31f-c904fe99baca

you can divide 30 by periods of 10 and research decanates and/or Dwads..

I agree with what has been said

You are one or the other depending what degree it falls on, that will be your sign - you can't be both signs
But the energy of the previous/ahead sign does influence in my opinion. ex: like a Taurus with a gemini feel. I think you can really see the influence with personal planets ( sun, moon, venus, mars, mercury)

My family sister(2),mother and niece are born near the cusp. I can see the influence in their personalities. it's funny how many are in my family too. Alot of my friends are also born near the cusps as well. - meaning they are born one Sun Sign but you def see some traits of previous/ahead sign.

I'm a 1 degree Sun Virgo and have a 0 degree Mercury in Virgo, people have mistakenly thought I was a Leo, they said that just based on my looks not knowing my Sun Sign is Virgo. I guess maybe they see the Leo influence ...I don't know lol

Sidereal zodiac isn't exactly accurate, either. Constellations vary in size and aren't a perfect 30 degrees.

I don't do cusps. I have 3 planets at 29 degrees.

i know cusps are legit and i wish more astrologers took them seriously, my brother has his sun, moon, venus, mars all right on 29 degrees of leo, he is also a leo ascendant,so if we go by conventional astrological wisdom that cusps dont exist he should be the epitome of a leo,but he isnt,he does have leo traits ,but he is definitely more virgo,he is a penny pincher,he works in the healthfield,he only eats organic foods and is obsessed with being healthy, and he is always harping and criticizing me about being irresponsible and telling me i need to eat healthy, now does that sound like a leo to you?

Your ASC is Aquarius, but still your Pisces influences your 1st house.
Probably Aqua is more noteable (unless you have personal planets in Pisces or in strong aspect to Neptune), but under the "cover" of Aquarius, there is a lot of Pisces influence.

I have the same thing in relation to my 3rd house, and while my initial approach to communicative matters is very Uranian (Uranus is conjunct 11th house cusp, too), once you get to talk more closely with me, you certainly will notice the Pisces influence.

I am the same as Lotiswhite; I don`t use cusps with signs.

An important thought. It definitely makes a difference if the planet is in the same sign as the housecusp or not.
I have Mars conjunct my ASC in Sag by 2 degrees, with Mars being in Sagittarius as well.
Even though I clearly can see the 12th house position of Mars, there is a resonance with the ASC as well.
I think it would b different if Mars was in SCorpio though.

That is also the reason why even though my Venus is technically in the 1st house, doesn´t "feel" as strongly 1st houe-like as you would expect. It is already in the next sign, in Capricorn.

that's funny
I'll use me as example
I wear, well bright colors, I love color, my house, car ,decorations have color. I have been told I have a good sense of style. I'm not a health nut, I like to eat lol(I'm not gonna lie)
I also love painting, art and music. I love to paint with bright beautiful colors! that's my artistic style. Now my North Node is in Leo and I have A Sag asc

Funny thing is I have a Virgo Stellium (Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Juno)Looks wise - My hair is black and straight, my eyes look like Virgo eyes.
I do get nit picky when it comes to things not being done right and sometimes yes I have to be right and can be serious and introverted. I'm also a humble person, I don't want any attention. I like to live my life peaceful and quiet but do go out with friends to have a good time. Oh yeah, I also work in the Health field.

Once people get to know me, I start to crack jokes and love to make people smile.

Uh, to the people who say you're either one sign or the other, yeah, that's how it is.

But like, to me, a cusp is that area where the next or previous sign can still be felt. C:

I don't think you can be both signs either.

Given my sun being at 0 Virgo 15'31", I'm a firm believer in cusps. I could be biased in the proximity of my sun to the line between Leo and Virgo however.

It does seem like I have Leo tendencies at times, sun-sign-wise. Now the other planets, I don't have any of those at 0 or 29 degrees, although the size-from-earth vantage point idea does make sense to me.
