In my experience people with water mercuries appreciate steamy eye contact more than others. The air mercuries get very nervous when you try to lock eyes with them for any length of time (they start to giggle). The fire mercuries get impatient – kind of like saying “Is this all I get?? Can’t we do something more exciting than just stare?” The earth mercuries don’t see the point.. as though making eye contact is just some silly romantic notion that has no place in a real relationship in the real world. I have Pisces Merc – and I’ve had the most steamy eye contact with men who have a Scorpio Mercury trine mine closely. IP: Logged |

I don't. I'll stare right back and won't flinch at all. With friendships I avoid it because it can create an awkward feeling for them. With romantic interests though, they are ALWAYS the one to disrupt it first, it unnerves them (which I do admit, I find rather fun ). ------------------ It's All Elemental ----- My Chart if relevant IP: Logged |

Tautomer -- Actually I thought about this some more - and I've also had intense eye contact with people who had *other* Scorpio placements exactly trine my Mercury (so it is not always Scorpio Mercury). Maybe it works for any personal planets in water - in aspect to - another's water planets. Guy 1 - Scorpio Mercury - 18 deg Guy 2 - Scorpio Neptune - 19 deg Guy 3 - Scorpio Moon - 18 deg Guy 4 - Scorpio Uranus - 18 deg My Mercury is in Pisces (18). Also my Moon is in Capricorn (19). quote: it can create an awkward feeling for them.
Do you feel like when the other person is also watery - and they aspect your Scorpio Moon... they enjoy the eye contact rather than experience awkwardness? I think my Pisces side loves the feeling of Scorpio invading my thoughts. I love that they're there with me emotionally and understand me. The water element has a desire to merge. IP: Logged |

Hmm, actually I would agree with that. It does seem like in my experience those with heavier water influences could take that. Even cancers (which I largely scare off very very fast). I think with water placements it's that they "get" what's going on. When I lock eye contact I will start extracting a TON of information about them and their inner workings. I don't have to tell myself to do it either, it just happens. Countless people have told me that if I lock eye contact with them they start to feel like they are being dissected and can not hide anywhere. Water placements seem to "know" this and are able to mitigate it somewhat, or the awareness calms them. A few pisces I know do not like this very much. My mom is the biggest example. She will literally "sense" when I am picking her apart in my mind, and if I lock eye contact with her it can get to her. She's quite strong so she can handle it, but when it's done she has to "shake it off" in effect. Another pisces friend of mine flat out cuts off if I try to lock eye contact for more then a few seconds. ------------------ It's All Elemental ----- My Chart if relevant IP: Logged |

just from my own experience, i would say water people/planets have this covered. my bf has a lot of personal planets in pisces and i have several in scorpio. we often just sit and gaze at each other without words, but we're still talking through our eyes. IP: Logged |

BF is a scorpio sun and I'm a scorpio asc along with venus merc and pluto. We tend to look at each other straight in the eye in silence. But we also look at each other in the eye when we are in a serious moment, talking about heavier things. (Like when emotions come into topic) IP: Logged |

My wife and I have hot contact through our privates and don't engage in eye gazing. She is a Leo and I am a Capricorn. Neither of us has the patience for silent stares and we speak our minds so readily that we don't even get to make eye contact. Hahaha. Besides that, I'm Aspergers autistic so I don't enjoy eye gazing. IP: Logged |

Could be cultural on your part. Asians aren't big on eye contact. In Korea, it's considered disrespectful for a younger person to make eye contact with someone their senior. My friend got her butt kicked in junior high for doing that.I heard that it's a sign of insolence in some Latin-American cultures as well. Americans are really obsessive about direct eye contact for some reason. So lack of eye contact may not have anything to do with synastry or astrology. OR Aspergers.

I have an air mercury, but I looove eye contact. I believe that eyes really are a window to the soul and they're pretty much my favourite body part. I've known a few Scorpios who can beat me in the eye contact department, mostly because sometimes I just have to look away for a second, but then I'm right back in there again.I have this problem whenever somebody is publicly speaking, where I somehow make eye contact with them and they end up delivering their whole lecture/speech pretty much directly to me. I don't really know what causes it, but I've just gotten used to it over the years. In short, I'm allll about the eye contact, it's just so sexy. IP: Logged |

Ehh... I'm British raised and I'm British educated. Yes, I'm Asian, but no matter. How about my Georgia born, Tennessee raised, South Carolina grown, Virginia educated wife then? It's not cultural or nationality based. We just don't see much in eye contact. It's personality based and it's a preference, notwithstanding all the Asian stereotypes. Starry above is the very same ethnicity as I am, yet she does that water sign thing. Having said that, I have heavy eye contact in the business world, so I have no issue with that. I had to do intense eye contact when I was a martial arts student out of necessity cos I would get my butt kicked if I didn't. The first thing in martial arts class is to bow with a gaze into your competitor's eyes. So much for Asian stereotypes. IP: Logged |

What does she have to say about herself? quote: It's not cultural or nationality based.
For someone raised in an Asian culture/household, it would be based on culture. quote: We just don't see much in eye contact.
She said this explicitly?

Starry is a non-entity to me. Just some character on this board. As are you. But culture and its effects exist. quote: Having said that, I have heavy eye contact in the business world, so I have no issue with that.
Lol try that in Japan. Sayonara! quote: I had to do intense eye contact when I was a martial arts student out of necessity cos I would get my butt kicked if I didn't. [B]The first thing in martial arts class is to bow with a gaze into your competitor's eyes.
So much for Asian stereotypes. [/QUOTE] Exactly, because it's a signal for a CHALLENGE, in both human and animal body language. So you're calling cultural norms stereotypes now, ok. IP: Logged |

It can be based on culture. For instance in Australian-Aboriginal culture it is seen as disrespectful to make eye contact. However the newer generations don't seem to care about this. quote: In Aboriginal society the avoidance of direct eye contact is intended to demonstrate politeness and respect8. In particular, a traditional Aboriginal person may avoid eye contact with persons of authority, such as police, court officers, magistrates or judges.
http://www.aija.org.au/online/ICABenchbook/BenchbookChapter5.pdf Capriquarius - I think astrology can give us clues as to how comfortable a person is with intimacy and how intimate or emotionally close - they are willing to get with their spouse/lover. But the way in which they achieve this intimacy level can vary based on culture and other factors. My earlier posts on eye-contact were only referring to Western culture. What I was really getting at is that the element of water seems more comfortable with emotional intimacy. IP: Logged |

This is an article on tantric eye gazing: http://sex.amuchbetterway.com/what-is-eye-gazing/ quote: “When eye contact between two people is initiated and maintained, an invisible energetic circuit is established between the two participants, dissolving the barriers that ordinarily separate them from each other, drawing them ever closer into a shared awareness of union.”
It can be a positive and loving thing. But it can also be seen as a challenge. It depends on the context and the relationship between the two people (and also their culture - as above!). IP: Logged |

Err.. nope... its out of necessity because the leg sweep can occur in about a quarter second. The guy with the first move without the opponent's reaction wins. The other guy lays flat on the back with a fist to the throat. Game over. IP: Logged |
