Not at an orb of 8 degrees. The wider the orb, the more subtle the effects. And personally I would not even count 8 degrees.

Ecclipses are basically Transit-charts, and so I am using my usual 3 degree orb for that (while still noticing those conjunctions, oppositions up to 5 degrees, but after that I think the effects will be too subtle to be felt UNLESS his Sun is within 5 degree orb to another planet which conjuncts the ecclipse with an orb of under 3 degrees).

But, his MOON is a 0* conjunction (00'04 apart)... That is what I am mostly wondering about. It's in his 8th house.

He's had an incredibly tough year with most of his personal planets in Sag and Gem and all the Sag/Gem eclipses over the last year. (As well as Saturn crossing his Asc.) He has been very immature however so hopefully all of these eclipses and Saturn will transform him beneficially

What a sincere, honest and beautiful thing to hear a parent say. The little guy is 2, he probably likes anything fun, with shiny things and sugar. And then the parent is like "I hope he likes his birthday okay."

Since it is the Moon the change / effect will be predominantly on his emotions, his habitual responses to things.
It would be interesting to see how the Moon is aspected in his natal chart (esp. aspects within 3 degrees); those aspects will be "woken up".

Also check in what natal house the Moon falls, and where she rules. These are keyareas that will be effected by the ecclipse.

A solar ecclipse is a special New Moon, and as all New Moons this is a time of New beginning, though it is magnified with this being an ecclipse. Whatever seed is being layed during this time, it might have long lasting consequences in his life.

This ecclipse is in a way connected to the one taking place on 25th november 2011, which was on 2°37 Sagittarius.
Maybe reflect if something significant, relating to the Moon in his chart, happened around that time.

So his moon (3* orb or less) is quincunx Saturn (exact) and Pluto (2*), and semi sextiles his POF (1*).

The moon is in his 8th but rules his 10th.

It will be very interesting to see how things go.
