Ian, I hope you can make them understand that she needs ALL the love she can get and to be told explicitly that she is not to blame!! Accidents happen. Poor kid. I hope the parents are handling this right. She will need a therapist just to talk out the pain together with the parents too.
God bless u for being there.
Please keep an eye on the little girl. If possible.

No, the parents are not handling things properly and are being buttheads. However, the community has decided collectively (it's the girl's middle school group that takes precedence) that we need to butt out until the funeral is over. As long as no laws are being broken, it's not our place to question the grieving parents.

Yes, the prevailing mentality and popular sentiment is she's to blame, and it's sad. Never mind which f@#$&k nitwit gives children a can of almonds. I won't even give a 10 year old whole unchopped almonds, even if there were no nut allergies. They are the size of grapes. Definite choking hazard.

I'm only with the group for the oldest brother who is theoretically not factored into the equation.

100% with you on this.
The parents are grieving but so is the girl. Sigh. Hope she will be taken care of. Sending a little by her side.

My condolences~

Since these are all young children, where were the parents?

In the US, the parents would be held liable for the ages of these children if they were left alone.

Very proud of the 16 year old boy. In the middle adversity, he finds the courage and conviction through his faith to play his double bass in the orchestra performance this afternoon. He knows that this is an advanced orchestra and about 92 musicians are depending on him and he refuses to let anyone down. He just got a standing ovation in the warm up room. We were all shocked that he showed up himself with his double bass and in his tuxedo, and he drove himself. The true sign of a real mature young man.

Platero,

Please. It was a man and a woman. They are in their late 40s and have six children. SIX children. To say that they should know better is a gross understatement.

Second. If you are having a house party, you would either get another adult to babysit or put a 1-1/2 year old to bed. It's 8 pm. An infant/toddler ought to either be in bed or going to bed.

Third. You don't dump your kids to the side and beer drink with your buddies. Or join the women folk about idle chat about some stupid whatever TV show or which woman is banging up with ever guy.

Not watching your kids is negligent parenting. Of course the teenagers are in their rooms on Facebook or doing whatever teen boys or teen girls do. Which brings us to the unsupervised preteens and young ones.

Of course the party on the patio or whatever has snacks, which means pretzels, nuts and whatever junk adults like to consume with their booze. I understand that the men even had cigars going. Buttheads indeed.

You just don't hand your kids whatever is on the adult snack table. Here kids, here's a bottle of vodka. Kahlua is over there. Why don't you kids het the milk and make yourselves some White Russians? Same concept. I cut my kid's chicken into bite sized pieces so that they won't choke. It's just common sense. Nobody gives their kids hard whole nuts that cannot be easily chewed.

Now. The 10 year old and the 8 year old ask for some junk food and obviously the parents shoved them some of that crap and told them to get loss. It's like me saying: hey kids, here is an uncut prime rib steak. Get lost. Even a 10 year old has a small windpipe and can choke on a nut. Forget that. An adult man can even choke on a whole nut.

The nut was probably more than 75% of the toddler's windpipe.

Think of it. You and I know that you don't have experience with kids and can't deal with kids. So you know that I would never hire you to babysit my 7 year old. Then, why would these parents make their 10 year old baby sit a 20 month old? Don't you find that just flipping stupid?!?

I agree! A 10yr should not be babysitting in the 1st place, especially at a house party! That's ridiculous and dangerous! Ppl need to use their common sense honestly. Geez

I don't think Reg was defending the parents. Your post stated "some idiot saw fit to give a toddler an almond", I think she was defending the girl who gave the almond.

Wow, dont really know what to say. The sibling is going to need a lot of attention and guidance. But with the parents dealing with the loss of the baby, I feel the family members and friends will have to move forward.

What a senseless tragedy !

Prayers and kisses for the little one, fly home baby

This made me go cold reading it! I have a toddler and the thought of losing him is horrific so I can only imagine how his parents must feel. And that poor sister of his - I truly hope they manage to heal this between them all. Sending love and comfort to the family x

So nice to see someone who cares so much, you know. Most people wouldn't give their hard-earned money away for anything.

That's very inspiring of you, YoursTrulyAlways.
<3 You seem like you'd make a good leader.

Thank you very much.

The motivation behind leadership is only a quest to "do the right thing." And credit belongs to all the fathers involved.

In the interest of longevity, we've decided that the scholarship fund should be modest enough that it can be repeated in perpetuity. Of course, we've well exceeded the dollar target of $1,000. Therefore, we decided that we would buy a new Apple notebook computer just for this year.

We've also decided that the scholarship fund would be for a deserving less-privileged graduating senior headed to a brillant successful future.

This year, we have a natural candidate. *She* is headed to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. *She* hopes to fly jets in service to our country. She has a solid "A" average and is a cross country and track athlete.

As someone who got all my degrees through scholarships, hard work and thanks to the generosity of people like you, I want to say Thank You.
The toddler's soul rejoices in the good karma as well.
You guys are the best.

Yeah!

Now the 10 year old girl would have an outstanding big sister in college to help motivate her and make her life a brilliant success. The toddler would smile.

I agree with anongrl, it's great that there are people like you out there who are willing to help the less fortunate.
