I don't know where to post this, so whoever wants to move this to whatever forum, please be my guest.

I just got horrible news in the last three minutes. My 16 year old son has a school mate with a 20 month old brother. Last night, they had a party at the home.

Some idiot saw fit to give a toddler a whole almond. The almond aspirated into his lungs and caused pulmonary asphyxia. The toddler was DOA at the hospital.

I'm going to set up a school scholarship fund for needy students at my son's high school in honor of the toddler's name. I'm organizing all the dads for funding. Yes, we are well to do, but its still public school and there are less privileged kids.

The kid is in a better place.

The tragedy compounds!! News is coming in...

Rumor is... unconfirmed... that its a sibling that gave the almond. I don't know if its the high school student in question, but I doubt it.

We have another young child scarred for life!

Thats really awful! I'm sorry to hear about this! I hope you feel alright!

I believe god has a plan for each one of us, even when things dont go how we want them to sometimes. it extremely unfortunate! but always helps to have faith in god, a higher being or the universe...whatever your belief is!

I've lost a baby too and i know how difficult it can be! I feel so bad for this family! Hopefully time can heal their wounds!

Honestly, in the whole scheme of things, my attitude is forget the parents.

I'm leaving to go rescue the supposed.. unconfirmed... pre-teen sibling of undetermined sex... who gave the almond. This kid shouldn't suffer a life of guilt.

Thank you very much. I lost two babies myself, even though I'm a man.

That is so awful poor baby My deepest condolences to everyone involved. They will be in my prayers.

I hope you and your family will heal by helping other children. That is very thoughtful and positive outcome of such a senseless tragedy.

Hugs

I'm so sorry to hear this, Ian.
You are right to focus on the sibling as they don't need to be haunted by this....
I'm glad you are able to be there in this tragedy and try to set things straight and help so much.

hugs

No. A 20 month old toddler. A whole almond went down the windpipe into the lungs. The child had bronchial asphyxia, leading either to a stoppage of breathing or a serious deficiency in oxygen absorption, leading to brain damage and death.

The medical term is hypoxia, which reduces oxygen saturation levels. That is in addition to hypoventilation from the increase in carbon dioxide in the cells, which causes havoc on blood pressure.

A 10 year old girl. Emotional sufferring for life. The family has chosen to move her and grandma into a hotel room to seperate her from the funeral and the massive hoopla. You can imagine: people like me, neighbors, the press, busy bodies, schools, etc.

Oh geez, they moved a 10yr old at a hotel?!
The kid is going to think that she is being punished!!
Ian, I hope you can make them understand that she needs ALL the love she can get and to be told explicitly that she is not to blame!! Accidents happen. Poor kid. I hope the parents are handling this right. She will need a therapist just to talk out the pain together with the parents too.
God bless u for being there.
Please keep an eye on the little girl. If possible.
