I completely understand! I just went thru this same issue a few weeks ago and u'll c my frustration if u look go under the brown owl school and look under the thread about chart rulers. With placidus I had 2 intercepted houses. Under equal I didn't have that issue. The only way I figured up which one worked for me was to do house rulers and look up each placement for each housing system bc my house placements were different with each system. Just a little help yes its confusing!IP: Logged |

The only two sources I know for house rulerships are SkyViewZone and Cafe Astrology. SkyViewZone works to a certain extent and Cafe Astrology is way too generalized. It's difficult to determine a definitive source for interpretations. Bottom line is that I have done interpretations both ways and nothing is truly accurate nor are they inaccurate. I'm left in limbo. IP: Logged |

The most important thing in answering the question of what house system to use is first to focus on the Asc, making sure it is accurate. People tell me, "my birth time is exact," just because it gives a specific minute. They make the assumption that this means the Asc degree is certain. You'd be surprised how many people's charts are off by at least a few degrees on the Asc. For example, Bono (of U2) is not Capricorn rising with Saturn conjunct. No matter what house system you use for that chart it won't work. I have validated his chart myself. His correct chart has the Asc 2 Aquarius with Pisces (plus Chiron and Mars) intercepted in the 1st. That differs by 10 degrees from the widely circulated chart for him! Validate the Asc first by making sure the sign itself fits. If it doesn't look at the one previous (or the next sign if your chart shows a late sign Asc). Then by watching transits of fire planets in angular relationship to Asc. This isn't astrological drudgery. Its a lesson in astrology itself and is worth the effort for every student. Having said that I only use Placidus since all my clients were born between 60* north and south latitudes. Past 60* north or south we don't have an accurate house calculation system, but the topocentric is more accurate there than Placidus. Were you born at a latitude past 60* north or south? ------------------ World Class Rectification Specialist http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ IP: Logged |

I agree. Perhaps that's why Saturn return is felt the entire time its in that sign, and why it lasts 2 years and not a few months.. Obviously most intense when close to the natal degree but still. IP: Logged |

I stumbled across that sentence:"If you think logically, you would understand the only one that makes sense is whole house system" This does imply that anyone who comes to a different conclusion based on reasoning, is thinking "not logical". Instead of assumptions like these, I would like to read the REASONING for or against a housesystem, that do not start or end with: "because it works in my or XY`s chart".
Why do you think is the housesystem you use consistent with the premises of astrology?

YTA - I do use Placidus, mostly because it's very common and everyone seems to be using it, so it's just easier to post a chart that is in Placidus. But to be honest, I'm pretty critical of it. I don't particularly like the intercepted houses. The whole house system is more classic and clear cut. Every sign gets its own house. Also, I've noticed that in predictive astrology, when I read my horoscope (usually Susan Miller's).. it makes a lot of sense.. and I know it is in *whole house*. Try Bob Marks - for planets in houses.. You might prefer his interpretations. He's also a Capricorn I bet he has Cap Mercury as well. The way he writes is very much to the point. http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/TOClessons.htm IP: Logged |

Part of the problem here is that these simplistic "if you think logically" responses are from people who don't actually understand the complexity of astrology because they've been studying a flat chart zodiac wheel - flat sky astrology. There is no scheme of genuine "logic" that treats the sky as flat and ignores the N/S (declination) positions of the planets. How many of you have studied declinations, parallel and contra-parallel aspects, out of house aspects to other houses' cusps...? Study astrology by studying the real sky - which is 3-dimensional - not just sign-based 'cookbooks' and flat-sky charts.
--> Yours truly, probably the only way to arrive at honest conclusions that do away with your confusion is a rectification with thorough validation procedures. If your chart doesn't settle into clarity (assuming your astrological literacy is pretty good) in at least one house system, then it is very likely that the sign and/or degree you have at the Asc is just wrong.
