I have noticed an interesting trend. I have a number of friends who have mercury in Gemini, and know a number of them as well. I have noticed an interesting trend with this; nearly all of them do not like written (typing) communication, and in some cases flat out hate writing. It's an irritation to them and largely they are not very good at it.

Where as, I have mercury in gemini, and I LOVE written communication. In fact, I love all forms of communication and I try to perfect each form of it so I am the best that I can be at it.

At the moment I am sort of at a loss to explain this. It does make sense that mercury in gemini wouldn't usually like written communication because it's easier to talk in person. However I feel like there might be a deeper reason to it.

Are there any other signs and placements that might display this tendancy and what might cause it? In a lot of ways I feel like an odd one out amongst people I know because I love indepth communication across all medias.

Discuss!

I love your threads because it always makes me think of this:

NOW I'M VERKLEMPT. TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES. I'LL GIVE YOU A TOPIC. THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE WAS NEITHER HOLY, NOR ROMAN, NOR AN EMPIRE. DISCUSS.

On topic though... do you think the 3rd house also plays a part?

I have Cancer Mercury and I love written communication, but not so much with the verbal. I think it's because I like to take my time to formulate my thoughts. I don't shoot from the hip too often. My Mercury is also in mutual reception with my Virgo moon, so I suppose my mental processes are permanently tied to Cancer and Virgo tendencies.

I have Mercury in Gemini conjunct Venus and I LOVE writing because thoughts come to me instantly I never get writers block. My english teachers in college always said I was an excellent writer.

Judy Hevenly told me If I wrote a book I would make so much money.

Plus I have a writers fork on my palm.

Hmm, I just suppose it is the people and individuals that I know then.

I have heard and seen that having mercury in gemini can make one lazy when it comes to communication because those with it often don't want to discuss in detail over a length of time (the mind wants to bounce around being stimulated in as many ways as possible). Thus with some I know it seems like an air of laziness.

Like always though, it seems like there are a lot of overarching factors. However, part of the basis for this was the astro-poll I made a few weeks ago. There were almost NO mercury and gemini's who took the poll (in fact, I was the only one) and that to me said something of this.

I. Love. Communication. IN GENERAL.

Libra Mercury in the Second House here, whether it is written or it is spoken, talking and conversing is always a joy! I admit, however, I'm not as colourful when it comes to the verbal because I feel more pressure to hurry up and say what I wanna say instead of sitting behind a computer keyboard and articulating my thoughts nicely, calmly.

My neighbour is a Taurus with a Gemini Mercury as well, except her Mercury is like, in the Eleventh House. She doesn't use her computer for talking to people - more like...checking her FB and downloading music. Other than that, her socializing and communicating go down in person!

Well my Gemini guy - who also has Gemini Mercury is a very good writer but he does hate it at times. He finds it challenging because sometimes he reads so many different papers and books that it is difficult to synthesize all that information and write an article or a thesis.

But it is definitely something he is passionate about. His career involves a lot of writing!

However, when it comes to *communicating* he prefers to communicate verbally. He always does this to me.. I send him an email and he calls me to answer my email. Or he sends me an sms or an email to call him..
And I kind of think: "Well why didn't you just say that IN your email?" LOL
I mean I don't mind since I love his voice so he can call me all he likes haha But it's just funny.

Its not so much that I hate writing, although I will admit I'd prefer to do other things as oppose to writing.

I just prefer other ways to "communicate" the message and there are other ways to drive the point home that are more effective.

Case in point anyone here read technical books? if not check out the Visual Quick Start Guide series the series teaches by
pictures compare that with reading a 1000pg manual on the equivalent subject.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, I would rather communicate my message that way. Its quick, fast and more effective.

I think there is a split between the traditional modes of communication such as writing and reading the newspaper vs looking at a picture and reading the news on a ereader/tablet.

My sister is also a Taurus with a Gemini Mercury and she's the same way. Her Merc is in the 8th. She hates writing but crawls out of her skin if she doesn't have someone to talk to. She knows I'm basically the polar opposite, so her talking at me isn't an uncommon occurrence.

I can only imagine your friends having afflicted mercury, probably by saturn.

talking about generics such as a planet is a sign is ONLY taking into account 1/3 of what you should be talking about, the other 2/3 are house and aspects

gemini has a very short attention span, and don't like having to do a deep and meaningful. They don't like making decisions either, if they can get away with it..

I don't have a Gem Mercury, but Mercury is my chart ruler (it's in Aqua in the 9th). I get too impatient to write. I hate emails, I would rather just talk to the person on the phone. I also tend to keep my writing short and sweet.

Hmm...

The difference I've always noticed between Gemini Mercuries and Virgo Mercuries is that USUALLY with the Gemini Mercuries love to talk and tell stories impromptu, whereas Virgo Mercuries prefer writing and being prepared to give speeches (formulating what you are going to say before you say it).

I would look to the 3rd house and aspects to Mercury for individual differences.

I WAS going to say that Virgo Mercuries usually like reading, whereas Gemini Mercuries don't, but ACTUALLY what I've noticed is that Gemini Mercuries usually prefer fiction, whereas Virgo Mercuries often prefer non-fiction.

Gemini Mercs like a good story, what can I say?

I don't like writing very much. I feel like I have a dozen of ideas that are running in my head and it's pretty difficult to sort them out and put them on paper/internet. Plus of all the ideas that I have very few get out. I mean, I want to write something, I think it's stupid , I erase it then I try again. It's easier face to face because I can see that person's reaction and I could adjust accordingly. With writing I feel like too much is lost in translation.

Gemini Mercury.

Maybe the think writing takes too long? Lol nah

I think the reason could be communication, which gemini merc loves , isn't fully achieved through words. There are gestures, expressions, tones of voice, hand movements, repetition , volume of voice, ect that aren there when just using words... even when describing something I'm sure they'd want it all in a realistic sense. Unlike a pisces mercury would.

(now that I think about it, our current text talking style on the computer or reading is such a pisces merc style because it requires a lot of imaginary and inuitive understanding that's not expressed)

Says the..

Mercury LIBRA!
