Saturn Retrograde
By amiann | Published: March 23, 2012

Saturn is the planet of delays, restriction, patience and reaching a goal step by step. Saturn is a serious dude. He is the picture of a stern father. He is not an abusive but he will make you earn your allowance. He won’t lavish it on you freely. He will make you eat your vegetables before you have dessert. Saturn is the planet which rules Capricorn. Capricorn has strong shoulder with which to the weather the storms of life. One can lean on him when one needs sustenance. He is an old fashioned type. He hails old fashioned values such as loyalty and friendship. He is out of touch with modern society and it’s throw away relationships.Saturn is the bearer of Capricorn traits to the places in the chart which Saturn touches. So, all of us have Capricorn’s influence in our charts by way of Saturn.

Saturn Retro is an uber Saturn. Saturn Retro works and re-works Saturn. The Retrograde planets are a deep entering into the bowels of the planet. The native must understand all the planet entails in order to use that energy at all. The person with the Direct Saturn does not need to do so. The Direct Saturn individual does not have to develop the serious nature of the Retro Saturn. The Retro Saturn will develop a depth and a serious attitude toward life. He may be more mature and responsible. He has a deeper intimacy with the planet if he takes that journey . In middle age, he may loosen up as Saturn rewards one with maturity.Part of maturity is the ability to loosen up. Middle aged Retro Saturns do learn to laugh a little more as a result of the struggle. Retro Saturn is hard but brings rewards if one persists, which is true to the nature of Saturn.

Oh yeah!

I have the dude in Cancer in my 8th house. Good for me.

No, actually it probably IS good for me. I feel it is at least in part responsible for my very serious, maybe too hesitating approach to 8th house matters.
It is very deep and any kind of commitment feels like a "pact for eternity".
Of course this is the house of intimacy, too, in very intimate lunar ruled Cancer. It`s a lifelong lesson I guess. Thank good I like learning.

LOL Ceri I notice that your sense of humor is more free than it ever used to be. It is wonderful

Yep Saturn in the 8th seems like one of the harder placements. I notice this when I do charts, for sure. Nicki has it. Saturn in Cancer is supposed to be of the hardest places too is it is the detriment I think

How do you feel out your Saturn if you could say. Does Cancer energy seem hard for you--the nurturer energy?

You have Ceres conj Pholus though. You seem very nurturing to me.

I wanted to ask you about Cere conj Pholus as I saw it in a man's chart the other day. How do you feel this, if you can say?

I do astrology with this kind of a feeling way. Maybe, you don't. I know I may get annoying when I ask people this lol

I can see that description in me.

When I was small, my parents called me "6 going on 36". I opened an IRA at 19.
I still keep a constantly-updated budget (it's gotten me through lean, single Mom times).

...Probably not typical Pisces Sun/Aqua Moon with Neptune in the 2nd behaviors, but I've loosened up a bit as I've aged.

Saturn (R) in Virgo, house 5 here. Not particularly enjoying it! but at least I think I'm getting "younger" every year, it's easier to just have fun now and enjoy life

Ascendant: Gemini
Sun: Pisces
Moon: Capricorn
Mercury: Pisces
Venus: Capricorn
Mars: Aquarius

That would be a hard house for Saturn.I am a Gemini and what makes life happy is to play, for me. My Saturn is Retro in the 2nd but I have not had money problems so it must be self esteem

My own take about the hardest Saturn by house would be
12
then 8
then 5

8 or 5 are debatable which is harder. I would say 5.

"Ceri I notice that your sense of humor is more free than it ever used to be. It is wonderful "
Thanks.

"How do you feel out your Saturn if you could say"
It is interesting.
It is the only planet in my Western part of the chart, and the handle of my buckle formation. This actually means that its through my Saturn that the energy of my chart is channelled through and through which I connect with other people. So there is no way around it for me.

it has a quinknx to Moon, which is not a Ptolemaic aspect, but it of course is an interesting connection, as Moon rules my 8th house and is in 2nd house, Saturn rules my 2nd house and is in my 8th house. So on top of that Moon-Saturn - vibe (Moon quinkunx Saturn; Saturn in Cancer) there is ALSO a Venus-Pluto or Taurus-Scorpio vibe over the 2nd-8th axis.

Saturn itself has a trine of 5-6 degrees to Jupiter in Pisces in 3rd house, which probably is a true blessing, and helps me to filter that energy. Of course Jupiter is also my chartruler.

On the other hand Saturn has a VERY wide square to Pluto, which I usually do not count, as it is almost 8 degrees (7°52 degrees), but at the same time Pluto is in 10th house (which resonates with Saturn) and Saturn is in 8th house which is Pluto`s house.

So, my Saturn position combines several themes in my chart:
Moon-Saturn
Venus-Pluto (2nd-8th house)
Saturn-Pluto (square and Saturn and Pluto in each other`s house)
Venus-Saturn somewhat (Venus in Capricorn; Venus ruling the 10th house, Saturn ruling 2nd house which is also a Venus-house)

Well, I could write whole books about that maze. lol
But so far it may suffice to say that it is a very intense brooding combination.
I also have Eros in Cancer in 8th house, 4 degrees off Saturn, and exactly on the Vertex and the far Sun/Moon-mp.

There come blocks regarding intimacy, especially sexual intimacy with it. Saturn is the old Nay-Sayer after all. It`s like the Supra-conscious, the judging voice inside anyone`s head, and well in my case it makes itself very much heard when it comes to the deepening of relationships.
Question is: why is that so?
Well, Saturn rules the 2nd house of selfesteem, and both my feminine planets, Moon and Venus, are somehow "in" this mesh, add to that they are not in really feminine signs, but in signs which are BOTH ruled by Saturn. Venus in Capricorn and Moon in Aquarius (Saturn was the ancient ruler of Aquarius) plus of course Uranus as ruler of the Moon.
It is not really all that much of a feminine placement.

So in short words, my blockages on levels of sexual intimacy, are caused by the knowledge to be "different" than what society "asks" of women (there Saturn is again: the voice of society or what we think it is), which has a negative effect on my selfesteem, especially valuing my own feminity.
Add to that that Venus is squaring Pluto in 10th house - and Venus is ruling the other sexual house, the 5th house, and the issues get even more emphasized. Thouigh it also brings intensity and passion into experiences, just it`s not easy.

Also I do shy away from commitment, because once committed, there is no way out for me anymore. Not just in relationships, it`s the same for friendships and family relations as well.
And if I fall in love, it is never that flowery butterflies are dancing feeling (though it is there, too), but it always feels like a thing of "life and death".
If I feel bonded to someone, especially on the ground of 8th house bounds, it is a bond "forged in fire and blood" (I do not een know what that really means, but it is what it feels like).
Once I am "in", I can`t leave, unless cutting off a part of myself and leaving it behind, which of course hurts like hell (though it sometimes is necessary).

Ironically, even though I shy commitment and caring, despite my best efforts and saying I will NOT commit, at one point I will have to face that I already am completel DEVOTED. Which usually sets my Moon in Aquarius ablaze, who tells me to RUN FAST AND QUICKLY, which I do, just to realize later that I ended up at the same place again, and even if not, the emotional cord inside of me might still be alive for many many more years to come unless I forcefully cut it inside of me.

THAT is Saturn in Cancer in 8th house.

But it also allows for an enormous depth of feeling that I know not many people share, but with those people I share it and have friendships with, the boundedness and closeness is extraordinary and after overcoming my Uranian suspicions that someone might want to cut my freedom and space, very rewarding and comforting. These are the people who REALLY know me (though they usually also resonate with my IC).

Interestingly in friendships with women and even with my mom, they seem to always have either Moon or ASC in Cancer, sometimes both.
BUT my best friends (I do not have that many) also have strong Mars/Aries-placements or uranus/Aquarius/11th house placements (relating to Sun and Moon).

I simply need to have it both, be it in romantic relationships or friendships, the nurturing Cancerian and intense Pluto-qualities as well as the independent Aquarius and Aries experiences.

"You have Ceres conj Pholus though. You seem very nurturing to me."
Thanks. Interestingly the smaller the kids are, the more drawn they seem to me. It`s nothing that I am really conscious about, but it just happens. That nurturing energy sometimes just bubbles up inside of me and becomes so great that I cannot contain it within myself and so it explodes out of me I guess.
Though I am better with words than with demonstrating physical affections. Though I am getting better at it.
I think you have a good grasp at Pholus. It`s something that just explodes out of you, and has a very unexpected feel to it.

I agree, in a way Saturn has a resonance with the 8th house / Pluto`s house, as both planets are very internal and intense and focused.

But Saturn does not really fit that well with the natural symbolism of the carefree creative and exuberant 5th house.
Doesn`t mean it is really bad to have him there. Just the approach to casual relationships will be less casual, than totally focused and probably committed. It is a bit of a contradiction almost, but should be interesting.

What I found intersting considering that Pluto is part of that constellation, and Pluto rules 12th house (and 11th house) of my subconsciousness and dreams, that in 1999 to 2000 I was having endless vampire dreams, one after the other. This was before the vampire mania on TV started, and it was not just one or two dreams (I was having one impressive one again in 2008), but one after the other, several in a week.
It was clear to me that I HAD to understand the symbolism (for me personally) to decipher what the hck my subconscious was telling me.
Unfortunately after I did understand,t he dreams stopped.
Weirdly I was really intrigued by some of them.

I guess it certainly was not a coincidence, that htese dreams began when Tr Pluto was exactly conjunct TRUE NODE and NEPTUNE, which of course rules my 3rd house, while Pluto rules my 12th house.

While SA Sun was JUST moving into conjunct my natal Antivertex and Sun/Moon-mp opposing my Eros in 8thh ouse.
SA Moon being squared to that Tr Pluto on my Neptune and NN:

and pr Moon was squaring my natal Pluto exactly: 8th house and 12th house all over the chart.

But well these days are gone. No dreams of that sort for me anymore. I guess Imust have done a pretty good job in understanding them.

Nowadays I only dream of having to jump down from great heights despite being really afraid to do so (Tr Uranus is on my IC currently; he always makes me want to jump from something; when it was conjunct my natal Moon, it was just as bad though).

I love Ceres energy as well. It is so warm, nurturing and almost sensual in a way.
For me it is the "female protection symbol". But the feeling of warmth and care is really the best thing about Ceres.

A guy`s EROS is conjunct my CERES exact (and funnily my nameasteroid is right up there as well, in his chart it conjuncts his Eros and is conjunct my Chartrulerl and Ceres as well. I find it funny how often my name in other people`s charts or the composite pops up to be on about 8 Pisces. )

VERY sensual. This man was so nurturing that that one slice of him was so magical to me.

So what does your name asteroid touch in YOUR chart Ceri? That is very interesting. Guess what my name asteroid touches? You will laugh

No idea what your name asteroid touches. Echo? Dejanira? Nessus? Child? Ceres?

Well, my nameasteroid on 16.59 Taurus in 5th house conjuncts PHILIA on 14 Taurus and CHILD on 19 Taurus.

and it opposes:
Lancelot on 16 Scorpio
London on 14 Scorpio
Siva on 14 Scorpio
Moira on 14 Scorpio
Eurydike on 15 Scorpio

it gives you great insights in how deep the pain of people can be though. That is really something good.

Do you sometimes feel like you are too much focused on painful experiences? Like you are zooming in onto the wounds, and at least for a time forget that there are things outside the pain, too?

I feel that with my Pholus, it is as if the things that it touches, when it explodes, get so big, so magnified that it is almost as if the whole world just exists of this one thing.
In my case it is in 3rd house in Pisces, and I can get compeltely lost in talking or even more writing a story. It completely sucks me into my inner world. It is very therapeutic, but after that I have sometimes to struggle to get back to the surface again.

Well, you know Ceri, people have told me to get over my struggles/pain a thousand times.
However, I finally decided to go INTO it--like dive in as much as I could and it is the going in that is allowing me to come out.
When I found Right Brain Trauma Theory, it codified what I knew in my heart.

I studied to be an acupuncture physician but did not become licensed. I learned about the energies in the body. The body is connected to the mind as an organic whole. One cannot push emotional energies down and expect them to stay there. They WILL come out as something such as addictions, abusive relationships, emotional illness or physical illness. So, I decided to try to dive in to them. I did so very embarrassingly and falteringly. However, I do feel much more sane and it is getting better all the time.
