Telephonophobia is something I struggle with. My Mercury in Cancer is in mutual reception with Moon in Virgo. I'm a natural worrier. My 3rd is ruled by Neptune in the 1st. Mercury receives no harsh aspects, though. What other factors would you look for in a chart for this sort of thing? Anyone else suffer from this? IP: Logged |

I knew someone who was really anxious about recording his outgoing msgs, leaving any type of msg, always preferred to speak in person & didn't like his own voice. Capricorn Merc. I would say he had a phobia about his own voice.IP: Logged |

Although fortunately its getting better, but using the phone is still quite alien to me. I prefer face to face communication or even writing.I have Chiron in Gemini that T-square my Moon-Mercury opposition.

I'm always anxious at the idea of calling someone. It used to be very difficult in the past, now I'm better but still not completely at ease. So, I can relate!Hm Mercury doesn't do much, it's in the 6th conjunct the Sun, sextile Chiron. But! Ruler of 3rd is the Moon, which is afflicted by Saturn and conjuncts Chiron.

I wouldn't say I fear phone calls, more like I HATE phone calls with friends/family. I get overwhelmed with so much nervosity and agitation, I feel like an animal trapped in a corner. No idea why but I just do.
However I love talking to people in person, texting, emails, chatting & writing letters and if it has to be phonecall like, I'm okay with webcamming.I feel very much at ease when making formal/business phone calls though. Saturn 3rd house. IP: Logged |

I always get anxious that I'm bothering someone by calling. It's not an issue calling a business, because they're getting paid to answer the phone. When I have to call family or friends, I freak the hell out. Right now I've been procrastinating calling my dad because I have to ask a huge favor and he's prone to yelling. When I can sense an altercation of some sort I will go through any length to not have to call them. It doesn't help when emails go ignored, though.  RUler of my 3rd is Cappy Neptune opposite Cancer Sun and Mars. I don't think having a Cancer Mars helps matters much in my situation.  IP: Logged |

^ I love this thread! Because I hate making phone calls! I really just don't want to bother people, interrupt them while they're eating or on their way out the door. Plus, I really fear misunderstandings and want to be able to see people to "read" them, and have them read me. Like Doux, I have the sun and Mercury in the 6th. I also have my sun and Saturn in mutual reception; Saturn opposing my Mercury. Libra Pluto in the third house. My good friend who also hates the phone is a Leo with a Virgo moon, NN conjunct Pluto. I don't have a house phone. Well at least since last year. It is always someone who wants something. Never really someone who just wants to talk. In high school people called me just to talk but not since then. We don't have answering machines or I dunno it never caught on here or something but I'd love one. I don't fear calling people up and talking to them. It's just that when it reaches that point it is usually something serious like someone dying or business/ family related. My merc is in h6 Aries ruler is in h1.
H3 has neptune and Jupiter in cap. Tom hanks has this I think. The telephone ringing is his hatest sound according to his inside the actor's studio interview.. IP: Logged |

I have a retrograde mercury in capricorn - although part of my work includes answering telephone calls - you will not find me talking on a cell phone after hours. Come to think of it, sometimes I hear phones ringing when they aren't. I am not even up on the latest cell phones. I have an emergency go phone which I hardly ever use. I'd rather talk to my friends and family in person. I'm not nervous about talking on the phone - not at all. I just don't prefer it as a way to connect with others. Telepathy is good too but I don't even have the patience to focus on a convo like that for too long either. I do have two facebook accounts and although I don't address everyone in my facebook friends group, I do have a lot of private convos with others with the chat thing. All these new social networks drive me insane - I can't and won't keep up. I use to be a internet junkie (many moons ago) so I don't even have a computer/access to the internet in my home. When you connect with people from all over the world, it's easy to be on the internet all the time. Sometimes when I'm on the phone, I'm doing a couple of other things at once. I just don't have the patience - it's crazy enough to have a sun in sagittarius and a moon in aries - I just find it hard to focus when on the phone for too long. After about 5 minutes I'm probably doodling, playing solitaire, and reading an email at the same time. Not to mention, when on the internet, I usually have at least 5 other windows open. As far as forums like this - I tend to be too critical when proofing my responses which I despise so, that's that with that. Oh - I don't usually read over things I've written in the past either. I have a mild case of social anxiety and for a while I was afraid to speak on the phone. (Telephone phobia) I guess it was just a phase... I would feel like people would listen to my every word and judge me. Then I got out of my head and realised people mostly think about themselves, plus they're going to judge me anyways,so I conquered that fear!
Mercury in cancer connects all types of communications with emotion/feeling and has to relate to everything on an emotional level first and Moon In Virgo is an absolute worry wort. (So that actually would make sense.) Hm.  Goodluck with controlling it or whatever. And call your father, I'm sure he wouldn't mind.. (He has the option of answering it or not. So I don't see why you think he would be upset with you when hes the one who makes the decision.)

Wow good topic, I have this and cant understand why! I will email and text message, but a phone call, unless I know u very well, its like instant freakin anxiety attack. WTF?
My mercury is conj uranus on the desc of my 7th house. Nervousness? Its also in a 0* opposition to chiron in 1st. Is my mercury wounded in some way? Oh and its tightly semi square saturn. Insecurity/Fear in communication/making connections??

From reading this thread more carefully so far I am thinking mercury-saturn and mercury-chiron aspects. saturn would relate to fear/insecurity and chiron would relate to pain/woundedness.IP: Logged |

Thanks And I'm not afraid of him answering, but more so how he's going to react to our conversation. His reputation as a hot head precedes him and I turn into a useless pile of goo when dealing with confrontations. Moon Square MercuryI've never liked phones, because calls are stress - you have to say a lot of information without thinking in a very short period of time. If I have 2 options - phone and e-mail - I always choose e-mail. It allows me to formulate my thoughts without stress. In my job, I have to receive calls, not many, maybe 2-3 in a week. I'm used to it, but making calls myself is still a challenge for me, unless I call my mother or someone familiar. IP: Logged |

I have this too! It's horrible! I can take forever to make a call even to my family or friends. I become anxious, I'm even shaking and after the phone calls I need some time to calm myself. Most of the people I know are used to it and to my novel like texts or mails!
My mercury is in Libra house 10 sextile Moon in Sag house 1. The ruler of my 3rd is Uranus which is conjunct my Asc and Moon in Sag, Moon is the ruler of my 8th. Both Uranus and Moon are opposite Chiron in Taurus house 6.IP: Logged |
