The Signs on the IC
By amiann | Published: April 30, 2012

The IC is the Angle of the chart which relates to one’s early childhood. I would like to explore each sign on the IC.

Aries–the home may have had a rushed, harried feeling to it. Things were not pushed under the surface as in many homes. However, the Aries home may have been insensitive to feelings. Children may have been told, “Get Over it. Only babies cry”

Taurus—the home may have felt safe. The child may have felt as if he had a warm, comfy nest. There may have been creature comforts such as home cooked meals and comfy places to watch TV etc

Gemini–the home may have been intellectual. Word games such as Scrabble may have been a frequent activity. Books may have been an important part of the child’s life.

Cancer–the home may have felt nurturing. There may have been a feeling of belonging.

Leo–the home may have been a place of fun, games and lots of affection. The house, itself, may have been a showpiece. If not, it was made to look as elegant as possible as there was a lot of pride taken in the home.

Virgo–the home may have paid too much attention to detail. The native may have felt picked on and criticized. He may have felt as if he could not nothing right. There may have been an attitude of perfectionism.

Libra–the home may have been well decorated with an artistic flair. Fights and raised voices may not have been allowed. Things may have been swept under the rug. People may not have been able to tell the truth.Instead, the native may have had to show only the nice side of himself.

Scorpio–there may have been deep passions and emotions going on in this home. They may have stayed under the surface or may have been spoken. At any rate, there was a sense of loyalty. One cold never betray the family. The family may not be open,to the outside world, about their family business.

Sagittarius–there may be a spirit of adventure in mind and body. The family may travel. Reading about faraway places and different religions and philosophies may be encouraged. The family may spend a lot of time talking about these pursuits, as well as doing them.

Capricorn–hard work may be encouraged. The child may be encouraged to set goals and taught how to meet them by delayed gratification. Reputation and one’s place in society mattered a great deal. This family may have been successful due to hard work and struggle such as in a small business or a profession

Aquarius–the home may have been cold. It may have been intellectual but with little affection.Intellectual pursuits may have been encouraged.

Pisces–the home may have valued spirituality, mysticism and spirituality. There may have been values which encouraged helping less fortunate others.

Please, give me your feedback. I realized that one cannot look at the planets, alone, for the IC. For the MC, the planets do seem to stand alone, regardless of sign, in terms of one is compelled to show this planet to the world ime

This further explains what I said in your 'Planets on the IC' post.

P.S. My mother was also a Scorpio!

Thanks for your input! I am getting a sense of it. The sign is kind of the ambient tone of the house. Planets modify it. What would I do without you guys

Aquarius IC conj. Saturn

Very little affection. My mom is a very detached Gemini. I spent most of my time with my older sister and kind of saw her as my 2nd mom. Moon in 3H

IC in Virgo: I don’t have any planets here, but your interpretation pretty much sums up my family environment perfectly!

Also, my father is a Virgo (my mother is a Pisces), so yeah strong Virgo energy, and lots of criticisms and perfectionism…

Aries–the home may have had a rushed, harried feeling to it. Things were not pushed under the surface as in many homes. However, the Aries home may have been insensitive to feelings. Children may have been told, “Get Over it. Only babies cry”

You hit the nail on the head, with the last line as the mantra of "Toughen Up" was repeatedly drilled into me in my childhood. My mother was/is very emotionally detached, with tendency to seek out fullfillment of her own needs above and beyond those of her chidlren.

As I was the oldest in our home, I was expected to set the example of a warrior who could endure it all for my siblings, as our mother was too often focused on dealing with her own emotional issues.

Our parents stayed together and still are, despite lots of arugments and turmoil (Aries-warlike). Home never felt stable, one moment everything was fine, next moment our parents were at it again, fighting with a feeling of what if this time they do separate for good?

I found my peace was in being outdoors, reading my books and away in my own thoughts, or at school with friends. I left home at a yougn age, during my teens in an attempt to find freedom and serenity.

My relationship with my parents is much better now, and I have no idea if they've kept up with the negative patterns, as in public it seems they have worked things out.

Now that I have my own family, I do my best for our home to be a peaceful place. I looked at my children's charts, and they have the IC in Pisces, Gemini, and Cancer respectfully in order from oldest to youngest. Its interesting to see how each one experiences the mother/home quite differently, although all three signs are prominent in my own chart and mutable =)

I have Aries on IC. My childhood home was definitely a battle zone. I was the youngest in my family and was expected to be an adult from day one. I was responsible for my older siblings since I was a girl. My mom never sugar coated anything, which I have always appreciated. My mom did not believe in babying children. I was expected to make my own decisions and be responsible for my actions. As a result, I was probably the only 6 year old in my class who knew how to create a budget, pay bills and file taxes. Lol.

Leo–the home may have been a place of fun, games and lots of affection. The house, itself, may have been a showpiece. If not, it was made to look as elegant as possible as there was a lot of pride taken in the home. My mom prided in the fact that she took me to all of the theme parks, fairs, sports event, etc. And that I grew up visiting countries and places

Exact description! My parents spoil me... Its ironic because their composite has venus & mercury in the 2nd house.. And mercury in the 2nd house screams clever with money and venus loves aquiring possesions. Haha
My parents have a lot of statues and paintings in the house. They are always shopping (theyre addicted, no joke.) Its like a mini museum slash amusement park. Haha
I have saturn in the 10th so you think my homelife would've been hard, but it wasnt. It was just my mom, my dad and my own issues that made parts of my childhood as wonderful as it wasnt.

Have Leo on the IC - My Dad would always have some sort of remodeling project going on, so pride in the home that way. They worked hard to keep trying to upgrade our living situation. But other then that nothing else really seems to fit for me growing up.

I think it was closer to Aquarius desc, which is on my MC. Or maybe I have a skewed memory of it because I know my parents meant well, did what they had to do to provide the best for us and loved us, I just don't remember feeling it at the time. Or maybe I was too irreverent to notice. When we talked it was about learning and doing what needed to be done to get ahead in life. I do have mercury conj the IC thou.

I will say that now my parents home feels exactly like the Leo description when I visit them or watch them with my nieces.

Yep, especially because the planet is Mercury. I never really felt the affection, even if it was given to me.

Virgo IC

My home life was pretty fun, friendly - very talkative atmosphere.. occasional huge emotional blow-ups with all the Scorpio running a mock in the women in my family. But these blow-ups never involved me directly. Although it can get very tedious to be a spectator to these things. I think that's why I dislike emotional drama so much. It's like chalk screeching on a board for me.
I like the things my parents and grandparents taught me. They taught me a lot of practical things in life... Maybe that's where the Virgo comes in.

I never felt picked on and criticised normally. I actually felt very encouraged.. to be myself (Aries Sun).
But - I do have a Cancer auntie with her Venus in Virgo... who is extra critical.. Her Saturn is exactly on my Sun though. But it is SO funny to me that she is like this for some reason. She just cracks me up.. and for some reason I actually like that she is critical.. so it's not bad.
But she is the only person in my entire fam. who is critical in this way. It's interesting because I do have many Virgos in my family -- but they are very laid-back and warm hearted. Most of them have Leo there somewhere... so they're not that picky.
