Typical NN in Scorpio, coupled with a lot of Scorpio in the entire chart, Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath are my two all-time favorite poets. Both were sun sign Scorpio with a lot of Water influences, and Sylvia had some Virgo influences as well making me like her even more. Plus, not to mention their poetry is gut-wrenching, biting, vengeful, intense and totally heavy... SCORPIO 100%.

I totally agree with you @Faith... I am very into stories about people beating the odds or beating the system. I like the story of Christiane F., the true life story of a young girl in a bad area of Berlin who became involved with a gang and drugs like angel dust at just 13, and how she managed to get out of it alive but scarred. The idea of a young girl like that standing by the train stations in a place as huge and unforgiving as Berlin, taking drugs and prostituting for them, makes me heartbroken. The movie had me in tears.

I also like She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb (I know, chick lit-ish but DON'T LAUGH!) because a girl is forced to overcome sexual abuse and gaining weight, and later going insane.

And a curve-ball: Ai Yazawa's NANA

Although I haven't enjoyed many manga from Japan I actually gave this one a shot and man...it changed my life. The art, the storytelling, the music they made for this show, it was heartbreaking, and above all it was beautiful and unlike anything I'd ever seen. ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS MUST BEAT THE ODDS AND DEAL WITH TREMENDOUS HEART ACHE. Yazawa is a Pisces Sun and I calculated her chart as best I could... I believe she has Scorpio Mars, many personal planets in Pisces, Cancer Jupiter along with an Aquarius Moon. I have an 11H stellium and all my personal planets are in water except my Moon. My NN is in Scorpio, and most of my personal planets are too. I'm very drawn to the sign Pisces at times, even if in RL I have not always had good experiences with them. Maybe this is why Yazawa touched my heart with her stories.

The Immortal is the story of the return of the Apostle John to teach the Twelve Keys of Knowledge to prepare the world for the new age of peace. This is a book so riveting you will not be able to put it down until you've read the whole thing. The mystery of the book: Is it fact or fiction? Most readers agree this unique knowledge had to come from a higher source.

My sagg asc and scorpio moon love this!

I'm going to check THIS out from the library, too. Sounds good!

It's been a while since I've read any good fiction. I read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón a few months ago, and I enjoyed it. It was a gift- only took me about five years to get past the first chapter.

Usually I prefer reading something about medicine: Bernie Siegel, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, Carl Jung, Andrew Weil...those kinds of people.

Gemisagscorp: Okay I'll keep this in mind, too. Going to make a library list.

Sweet-scorpion: Did you get my message on the clothing and fashion thread? I said that I can't believe you are so young, because you seem so much smarter than me...and I'm twice your age...so that's a little humbling.

Sylvia Plath: My thoughts about her always focus on her creepy suicide and how that affected her children. I've read some of her daughter's poetry recently. She seems a little bitter to me, but understandably so. Her paintings look like the doodles I used to make in college.

I am not a fan of that style anymore.

Thanks for telling me about Christiane and Nana! Onto my library list they go. I've been meaning to read She's Come Undone for a while. Maybe I actually will, that would surprise me because I've been procrastinating on it for about a decade.

Interesting. East of Eden is one of my favorites but I have not checked his chart (!)
But now that you mention it
Same Sun sign, same Mercury sign
His NN/Moon is conj my Jupiter
His Sun trine my Jupiter
His Jupiter conj my Merc/DSC
His Saturn conj my Moon/Venus
Synastry makes sense to me too.

I love Milan Kundera BUT we have zero conjuncts.
James Baldwin, Go tell it on the mountain - didn't check his chart.
Knut Hamsun, Hunger - didn't check his chart.
Susan Griffin, Woman and nature. Not fiction exactly but I remember reading it and thinking she was a literary genius.
She has Sun/Merc in Aqua (conj my Merc) in grand trine with Libra Neptune & Saturn/Uranus in Gemini.
No wonder.

I started reading about my NN in Scorpio and it only makes sense that this would interest me:
A tendency to be overly self-reliant and set in our ways, to cling to our possessions (material and otherwise) and habits, to be too fearful of crisis and overly focused on security, and to attempt to achieve success through sheer will rather than listening to our sixth sense are some of the issues this position suggests. With this position, we need to loosen the grasp we have on the things and people around us and open ourselves up to our soul's need for transformation, change, and regeneration.

I love self-reliant people (Robinson Crusoe) and have been trying to figure out for a long time how to just let everything go and not see it as a crisis.

Do you see any relationship between your favorite books and your nodes?

Handy link for more on nodes: http://www.cafeastrology.com/nodesofthemoon.html
^ It could be anything in the chart, I guess. I concede that.

But as for the nodes, let's see, your SN is in 3rd decan Leo, associated with heroic actions. NN is associated with altruism. Do you like action adventure stories where someone SAVES someone else, and is the saving your favorite part?

My favorite part is the alone and desolate part.

Lonake,

I love Milan Kundera, too. I only read The Unbearable Lightness of Being, though.

He could be a Cap moon, and he's got Pisces Mercury, so maybe he resonates more for you because of that?

His NN is conjunct my SN.

NN in Taurus.

I'm kind of all over the place because I love Southern, African-American, Native American, Victorian Romance, Spanish, World War II/Holocaust, Spanish, and African literature.

I practically worshipped Anne Rice as a teenager. Thrillers still hold a special place in my heart, as well as most of my book case.

Everything has to do with history, I'm not sure if Taurus is responsible for that.

No I hate those stories...

I like adventure/suspense/mystery novels mostly, as well as stories like that where the guy has to think of ingenious ways to survive in the jungle, and also tom sawyer and stuff that makes me laugh like Merry Mister Meddle and other stories about people playing practical jokes on others (tom sayer included). Umm...oh, and really crazy stories with a whole bunch of events that are hard to remember but in the end everything fits together like pieces in a puzzle and the protagonist learns some major life lesson which connects to some major philosophy we should all apply in our own lives (that's my sun and mercury in the 9th house talking :]). I also love seth godin and malcolm gladwell books, as well as Shel Silverstein and other poetry....but my favorite is definitely the crazy stories with lots of events, that somehow all add up in the end, and show a major life lesson.
Kinda like a mental puzzle. Go figure, i have no planets in air.

I hate jane austen and farewell to arms and all that crap, god please shoot me. I really do hate overfluffed nonsense strewn together into some boring soap opera about lifeless characters that have as much personality as cinderella's evil stepsisters (as in, they're catty bitches haha). Just because the way they write about it makes it sound smart and "intellectual" doesnt mean it makes for a good story. I also hate greek mythology, because, i figure i couldve spent that time in school reading way better stories than some kid whose wings melted because he flew too close to the sun. Oh poor kid, I'm sure native american tribes have come up with stories much more creative than that. Plus the way it's all written...ugh such a contrived form of english, like reading the dictionary.

RAS, which kind of stories do you hate? Sad loner stories? But why, they're so awesome.

LOL about Jane Austen and "god please shoot me"

sand, I was assigned American Psycho in my Transgressive Art philosophy class, but I couldn't read it. I skimmed some chapters, wanted to throw up. I did poorly on the exam.

Delilah...thanks for the recommendation, I have a good, long list now. I like history a lot, too. I think that might be a Scorpio thing.
