SO curious about that one. I was corresponding with Erin awhile back, (on astrology, of course) and really loved the excerpts. Now I just need to jump in and get the book.

Are you loving it?

but you wrote a "signalword" in your last post, calling Bella a "Mary Sue". That was EXACTLY what I thought as soon as I read the first novel!
How a Mary Sue becomes the heroine? lol

I think to a certain point Elena from Vampire Diaries is a Mary Sue as well. To be honest I love almost any character in Vampire Diaries EXCEPT for Elena. Seems everyone is falling for her (Mary Sue alert!), and yet she is so selfabsorbed and selfrighteous, it is unbelievable.

For me the character of Caroline (in Vampire Diaries) turned out to be a surprise. Cause I thought she would stay your stereotype blonde shallow cheerleader, but not so. I didn`t expect the way her character developed.

Anyway, sorry for jumping between series here, but I just find in current supernatural shows there are quite a lot of Mary Sue`s running around, and it annoys me a bit.

omg I LOVE Vampire Diaries, but yeah, Elena sucks so much. Although, the books are horrendous, the TV show actually has character development.

I actually read the first book, but well I just found it pretty laughable, so I stick with the series rather.
There is something in there that the books lack.

Indigo,

I love the way you are writing.
And I find it also interesting cause IH ave zero idea about the BDSM scene (And do not really want to get info from the inside. ).

I also think there is definitely a difference between fantasy and making them "real", and that is sometimes a really bad idea.

"HORRIFIED that Alexander Skarsgard wants to play the titular role ... AUGH. THIS WORLD CONFUSES ME SO."
Seems like everyone wants to play the role. Even Ian Somerhalder said he`d like to. I guess they think it`s a good career move.
I can`t see either in that though.

"And then, based on the whole, oh, somebody popping into my head at TOTAL RANDOM, and every fibre of my being going, 'But ... but you don't ... but that's not ... YOU'RE NOT LIKE THAT!' I just had to put the thing down. "
As a choice for the role? Do you want to share?

"one of them; I actually play two). Fiona. "
Lol My best friend (whom I URGENTLY have to call that weekend) is called Fiona.

"since Lane is Mr uber-powerful young enigmatic CEO of holdings company (you SEE why I was like, 'WTF, are you kidding me?') "
I see. Yes, definitely.

"ou'd realise. Dominant man with power finds woman who needs a LOT of help, she's immediately drunk on his attention, captivated by his power, and willing to pretty much be anything he wants her to be."
*shudders* This description alone gives me the shivers and makes me realize for very certain that if there is something I am not, it is submissive. At least not in that context.
I think I read a bit about the contract she is signing and he is to tell her what to eat and how long to sleep and what to wear?
Really?
I just can`t wrap my mind around that. I`d never let anyone tell me what to eat, how to sleep and what to wear. Well, in some weird society`s trying that as well, and maybe I am jus too used to revolt against stereotype (well, Aqua Moon and Sag Sun, what can I do?)
Why would anyone with a bit of selfrespect accept that?
Or is that the point? Lack of selfrespect?

" but I've outgrown that kind of material. "
Yes, I would have said that as well. If it wasn`t for the strange taste I developed for some supernatural mystery novels.

WEll, I tried Christine FEehan, and was even more apalled than with "Twilight", actually I was boiling.

But for some reason I realy like the novels by Nalini Singh. Ever heard of her?
I can`t even say what it is, must be a guilty pleasure, like "Vampire diaries".

"I get 'play' abuse used for catharsis by two individuals who REALLY KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS THEY'RE DOING."
Yes, but play and reality aren`t the same things, and yet I thinkt here is a very very fine line, and at a certain point even if it starts as a play, your soul might "feel" it differently.

I just remember that a friend and mine used to play with barbie dolls when we were kids, and one time, a story developed that was so tragic and painful and awful that we wouldn`t talk for weeks to each other, and stopped playing with the dolls alltogether. No clue where that came from. We invented the games as we went along, and this one turned out to be real nasty. Just a game, just make believe, but I donīt think our psyche really knew the difference.

It`s not really comparable, but just wanting to say that you have to tread careful even if it is just play and fantasy, cause you psyche doesnīt really know the difference. All it knows are emotional experiences.

"just want to find an impressionable young woman who wants to be guided and loved and twist her concept of that until she's no different from a victim of Stockholm. "
Yes, I`ve kinda see it with a former friend of mine. Though her boyfriends were the broken kind, who didn`t play sucessful and wealthy, but rather clingy, needy and manipulative.
I was out of there when the drugs got out of hand. Well, it was not even really my choice, but in retrospect, as hard as it is, I am much better off without any of these people.
I know it is harsh, but in a way it was selfpreservation. Some sort of survival instinct.

"hope I made a difference."
I think you definitely did. And for eeach ONE you helped it WAS the world.

".. it started to consume me. I couldn't breathe. I saw a world I couldn't fix, and something in me wanted SO badly to try."
IU felt like that about this friend of mine. I couldnīt help her and them. And seriously, if I had not distanced myself and got out of this world, I donīt know if I would still be here.
I had some good allies though, my reason and my family. These saved me. Or I could have gone down as well.

"Yeah. Take away the -monstrousness- and you have REAL monstrousness. The human monster. "
Yes, exactly.

"not gonna cry, not gonna cry. Can't save the world, can't help them all, useless to try ... not gonna cry ... Not. Gonna. Cry.
"
I know how you feel.

I do my best, and make sure to show my pupils a different perspective. But do I get through? Who really knows?
I am in a conference which decides about sanctions or consequences for when tthe pupils really have messed up.
And I have heard some crap there, about what is going on, what teachers usually do not get to see.
And most of all I have seen families there, so called normal good familieis, which are highly dysfunctional, but not so much that you can call the authorities or do something about it.
Just extremely cold parents, totally unable to show any kind of compassion or feelings towards their own kids. MOre than one mother there, who woudl not even stroke her daughter`s hair, when she began to cry cause the kid apparently felt that she had been going wrong. Once i even witnessed a mother pushing back her daughter`s hand when she reached for her. It totally broke my heart, but the thing is, that is a form of emotional abuse that you cannot do much about. You can`t force a mother to hug her kid as it would be normal. At least in my world it is.

I know there is so much worse abuse going on, but this is where I have seen it start. This is how you make children being unable to empathise with others and have compassion!

"You're a cool chica, Ceri. I'm really happy to've had the opportunity to cross digital paths with you. "
Thanks, and the same back at you.

... Ooooooooh.

Sun-Pluto, Moon-Merc-Ura in Sco WANTS. That looks like an EXCELLENT read. I'm currently reading Steven Pressfield's 'The Warrior Ethos'. (I love his nonfiction for the creative writing business.) This looks fantastic. Thank you. Always been a huge (fan? connoisseur? student? scholar?) of espionage.

I'm reading a fantastic book called "The One THing Holding You Back." It sounds like a cheesy, typcial self-help book, but it's really great, practical information about how to be emotionally healthy. I'm loving it.

'Azkaban' was my FAVOURITE. Be prepared to be hooked. I couldn't finish the first one. I didn't read the second. End of the third, I had decided that the hype was deserved. Just wonderful, careful, precise plotting. Enjoy.

Oh you are quite welcome and yes it is an excellent read indeed! They declassified every file since the founding days of MI5 till the measures taken to secure Britain after the 7/7 bombing.

If you love to read about the inner workings of intelligence organizations around the world, this is the book for you .

I hope, once I get back to my crime drama work, it will show through the pages, as my own training in forensics was once commented upon in the first of that series.
Training, experience, first- and second-hand knowledge pay off dividends for the writer whose genre is more niche, and professional.
EL James is a hack. She's interviewed and talked with people, but has NO CLUE of the lifestyle. I have very little respect for hacks, and, to some degree, as 'pretentious' as it sounds - some pity.

Hi,

John Grisham, American writer was first lawyer about ten years long. After that he started to write about lawyers and their stories. That is right: nobody knows what is there going on, except somebody who personally was in.

In the Novel that happens in Brazil and Jungle there, he wrote about somebody else; in fact he was there, himself.

I like crime stories and I am very disappointed, when on the end is epilog: this story is fictional, nothing is true.
