Oh you know what, here's an edit. I don't want to start controversy. I'll keep the question simple. What governs vanity? I have an aversion to it.

Asc in cap. venus in cap in 1H. Virgo moon. Is that the cause?

It can't all be Leo related. What in a chart indicates wild vanity and what indicates the opposite?

Jesus. People just out of curiosity asking for photos just to see how the aspects/placement affect on looks, why so serious ?

If it annoys you then just ignore . And no , I won't call them young/immature/vanity , I would rather call them confident people.

Rude post.

Anyway, vanity can be indicated by Venus placements, aspects to the ASC, maybe even 2nd house.

In general, I don't like the way I look in photos. I have Venus square ASC, but in the 10th.

As a Leo, the undisputed queen/king of Vanity, I have an aversion to it as well...which is why I'm planning on shutting down my FB account.

I'd agree with the others on a strong Venusian influence. Venus in the 1st house is a possibility. Maybe a LOADED 1st house with Sun, Moon, Mars there. But you have Cap ascendant...it may be cancelled out and your Cap/Saturn influences take over.

Heavy 12th house is the exact opposite.

I'd also add strong Taurus or Libra theme to the chart. Simplistic maybe, but just a thought. I have known many Virgos who seem VERY vain...like they need a lot of praise and validation from others in regards to their appearance. Many are models as a result, lol.

From a numerological point of view, someone who is born on a "1" or "5" birthdate...1,5,10,14,19,23,28. Or has a lot of 1's in their numerological make-up like name, life path, etc...

Blah blah blah, Edited to remove attempt at diplomatic answer to angry posts.

Sigh.

Moving on, my venus is opposite my ascendant, but I'm not sure that's the culprit.

How about North Node in the 12th? That puts south node in the 6th which means it's easier to fall back on humility and a sense of duty rather than relaxing and enjoying a sense of peace. A bit of stretch maybe...but could speak about ego too?

Sorry, this one I had to answer. I didn't call anyone young or immature, in fact I said that I didn't think vanity was related to age. I also didn't say the photo posts annoyed me, I said they were hard not to look at, like a train wreck.

To be honest, I have absolutely nothing in Leo and an empty 7th house where it is contained. In fact, it's very nearly intercepted in the 7th house. Anyone else have no Leo placements and feel weird about showcasing themselves?

What are your defining as vanity? There are varying degrees of having pride in your appearance or simply wanting attention. It isn't something as simple as I want people to think I am beautiful, pretty, sexy etc. Some people like looking grotesqueness or obscene and that isn't necessarily governed by Venus.

I will not go out with a friend not looking cute and pretty and feel self conscious about how i look.. dressing up to go to the grocery store because i always have to look NICE. I cannot show up looking less than perfect.. i feel its a dignity thing.

Good question. I think it's the simple definition you gave that I am thinking of. It's rare to utterly lack any sense of self or concern over your appearance. I'm thinking more in the realm of making an effort to orchestrate yourself to look obviously pretty, sexy, hot, manly, womanly etc in a way that is contrived for effect. It's a real subjective thing to define. I think it's related to feelings about flattery. I'm very uncomfortable receiving or giving flattery. I'd say it originates in the same place in the chart as ideas about vanity.

The ones I know:

- About looks:
Sag asc.
Venus in the first house or 10th house.
Leo asc.
Venus conjunct asc.

- About career/ financial success:
Saturn in 7th
Mars in 7th
True node in 7th, 10th

(I have it in my 9th house but I would consider it in my 10th as well. I can say that I can be vain in secret if that makes sense. I too dislike that about myself. Day dreaming, grooming, to me , it amounts to a waste of time. Still sometimes I can't control myself. I'm a bit of a perfectionist as well and have venus square asc, so I am never satisfied. However in public I don't do such a thing.)

I have my Chart ruler Jupiter, conjunct Venus.

I can seem vain but I am not. I am more self-conscious though and feel I have to compulsively check my appearance since I am afraid of being flawed at times, with make up or whatever.

I also have Chiron square Ascendant. Which is what leads me to question, do harsh Chiron-ASC aspects with other set-ups like I have, Venus-Chart ruler or Venus-ASC, lead one to seem accidentally vain but actually not inside?

Vanity is a learned behavior not completely inherent. The chart my indicate certain aspects that maybe more prone to vanity but nothing is set in stone.

Lets say a little girl is raised by a mother who enters her daughter in beauty pageants this child has now learned that vanity is important and earns her rewards. She clings to all her gender stereotypes and conforms to the image of what is ideal beauty.

Verses

A little girl that is raised by feminist women who encourage her individuality, and explain to her that beauty is superficial and transient. She later may be confronted with scenarios where she feels alienated among other girls who conform to the beauty standard whereas this girl makes an effort never to look in the mirror constantly nor worry about her appeal to men. This girl happens to represent me and I'm a Leo Sun.

And as women we are taught in this culture to constantly be "viewed" someone is always looking at us, it could be another girl comparing herself to you but more commonly its other men. The Veering stares cause us to constantly as woman to become vain in order to please men.

Oh really? now that the original post is gone, you can play with words. Good and convincing. Anyway I have nothing to do here.

ps: don't bother yourself with an answer, because I'm not checking this thread again

It was your tone. You would imply that people were immature but then say "but I don't MEAN that... don't take offense!" We all knew what you meant.

There are different kinds of vanity, I think. But most of the time, there's got to be some Leo, Venus, Jupiter or Sagittarius in there, somewhere, I'd say. Also Sun conjunct the Midheaven, if not badly afflicted, does give confidence which some people may interpret as vanity. Virgos, in general, aren't vain as much as anxious, I think--speaking as a Virgo, myself, that is!
