I won't deal with texts at all. They're too distracting and trivial for my taste (Sag moon), and it's too easy to misunderstand without voice & expression. When it comes to my real life friends I want to see them not just toss them a note and mistake that for "keeping in touch." I also don't like some of the other problems that come with texting and how criminals can use it against you. I also consider it rude when someone I'm talking to decides to read, and even reply, to texts while we're talking (perhaps my Leo ascendant at work?).

I suppose that means if I ever do break down and get an iphone that I won't be responding to most of my texts in any timely manner because I'll have the thing turned off for the most part (pretty much like I keep my computer's IM always off as I found the thing way too distracting).

And now something I'd like to ask...how common is this?

My BFF drives me to the recycling plant when she gets a call. Short & sweet her boyfriend calls as we're driving away and asks what she's doing at the recycling center and then asks why she didn't answer when he texted the question to her (her response is, "Because I'm driving" but that didn't seem to satisfy him, but then he knew she was driving when he texted her, the dickweed). I was like, "What the hell is his problem?" and she was explaining it's pretty common and iphones had become electronic leashes for parents, spouses, significant others, and more to track, monitor, and heckle others wherever they were as well as ask stupid questions like, "What are you doing at recycling?" She said if her job didn't require her to have an iphone she'd get rid of hers as she envies me.

Is that true? If so, aren't you a little creeped out by that, or feel a little creepy doing that? And what's with texting someone you KNOW is driving? Are you TRYING to get them hurt or worse?

^ What?

quote:
For someone I know informally either friend or more then they're more apt to hear something like, "the love of your life" "the one who saw you wearing women's panties" just something weird and sorta playful that I make up on the spot. With these people I never actually tell them my name I just screw around with them and hint at who I am in my jokes until they get it.

Lonake gets me!

Same here. I have had a couple people txt where I had no idea who they were. But this was back when I use to collect numbers and on occasion gave mine out even though I knew I would have no idea who they were if they actually txted. So I end up just talkin/texting who ever it is on the other end until they became not interesting any more.

Exactly, cannot stand the things as they more or less are shock collars without the shock, they vibrate or ring instead.
